Thanks for opening my pack, Graham! Pretty cool to immediately see my favorite Doctor as the first non-land card in the pack. The Diary is indeed a wild card, I slotted that thing into my Will the Wise and Dustin, Gadget Genius deck. I'm glad you enjoyed cracking this, and that you got some sweet pulls.
Also, Paul, I am so very sorry to put you through all that lmao
I feel like for Collector Boosters specifically, it might be worth setting up a slow turntable for your card display so you can show the light hitting them at multiple angles.
10:01 Indeed it is Wester Drumlins, Graham
The Forest is the planet Tigella, I believe, from the 1980-81 serial, "Meglos".
My friend made the Doctor Who decks the base for a Commander Cube, so I've drafted these cards a couple times. Things get Wild.
This video brought to you by Doctor Whomst? Doctor Youmst.
We need more of Ben's deckbuilding videos (with or without props). They are so interesting and funny. I always love his take on commanders and the little skit he does with each one.
4:17 Wait, Serge has his own foils!?
His "Caw Caw" impression was so iconic WoTc decided to commemorate him in bling
i am so jealous of the lego tardis such a cool set wich i missed due to age
I got a couple boxes to enjoy cracking & grab some of my favorite characters & episodes, but I was really surprised by how much the packs helped bolster my mana bases
Would have been fun to have this pack in a all collector booster draft, wouldn't it? You should set that up. Maybe get James on it? Isn't that his job?
Please do this
Very cute having the Lego Ideas Dr. Who set in the background of the card b-roll!
I am typically the boomer Magic guy who yells "hey I remember that!" during these videos, but I have never seen any of these cards because I have no interest in Doctor Who. What a fun adventure of an episode.
I just now learned that they made Doctor Who boosters. It feels like the Fallout boosters were advertised way more.
Not A Doctor Who fan, but I gotta say the one thing they did right in this set: Lots and lots of land reprints. Not the ones we WANT, but still good to see so much fixing.
I *know* I'm asking for a lot of extra work here, but for the shots of the cards it would be really cool if you for the foil cards either had a light behind the camera that you moved around, OR it you had both the card and the camera set up on a lazy Susan that you rotated back and forth while filming. It would show off any special foil treatment so much better and generally just look cool.
Top tier booster pun
They notably omitted ONE land from the MID/VOW cycle of dual lands: Shattered Sanctum. Guess which of those lands is >$10. >_>
While I don't care for the Doctor Who cards specifically I do care for both Magic and Doctor Who and Ace is my favourite character by far. Love seeing her card here.
Delightful as always!
Now i would love to see a draft using only doctor who collector boosters
Man if I got a Collector Booster with 5 lands in it, I'd be *pissed*
I feel like demonstrate is a flavor fail as a mechanic. Whenever a player casts a spell with demonstrate, they may copy it and then choose an opponent to also copy it. The order in which the spells resolve is the opponent's copy, your copy, and then the original spell. Isn't the flavor of the mechanic to be that you're demonstrating it to someone else and letting them try it out. But neither your spell nor copy happen before the opponent.
Arguably you're demonstrating how to cast the spell (/putting the copy on the stack), which does happen in the order that the ability works in. It's like "this is how you cast a lightning bolt, let me do it again so you can get another look, now you try". So the flavour kinda works if you look at it that way and the resolution is just a side effect?
But generally I think you're right lol
Theirs may resolve first, but you are still showing them how to CAST the spell first.
This set was absolutely not for me, but it was still a lot of fun to watch that EDSC where you did battle with them. Turns out that Magic is a really good game 😂
"Yaaaay Boooosters!"
What you get in each pack slot is predetermined. I have all the variants but it took some doing. :P
I got the full set of the TARDIS frame.
Man, though, I *love* the Dr. Who cards. Kinda middling about the show itself, but the cards have some *wild* mechanics on them that are super cool.
river song is such a cool card, but I've never been able to make it work
The ability is cool, and it feels like you should be able to break it, but I just can’t see how.
In theory,, she is very cool. In practice, she is pretty lame due to stuff like Timestream Navigator and Junktroller style cards with Time Warp style cards.
Since when is River Song a Timelord?
nah graham i AM trying to get everything variation-wise and i'm VERY close. yes i am nuts
I kind of get, but also kind of don't get why the Surge Foils get an entirely different Collector's Number. They already do the star to indicate foil, I don't know why they don't just have another symbol for surge, even something silly like two stars jammed together.
Should be a coffee cup
Crack! A! Pack!
Fun video tyvm
12:13 It’s mad as Missy 🍌🍌
Graham Crackers! All hail the engagement algorithm!
(Is it just me or are the card gimmicks starting to sound like a comedy coffee shop order? Extra wide venti foilaccino with double ripple and a planeswalker symbol dusted on top?)
$40 booster pack with $10 of value, welcome to magic the gathering as the whales wanted it
That's an investor mindset, not the mindset of someone that just wants cool looking cards to play. Magic cards are not stocks. The average pack of any set, collector booster or otherwise, will not and should not get you more money than you paid. That has never been a reasonable expectation and that should be obvious.
I've been watching?
Still sad about the Dr. Who finale. That s#!+ hurt....
Graham, now you know just a taste of what it's like for us FLGS owners to looks up these stupid cards and make sure their price is correct ... right print, borderless, right type of foil ... WotC makes my job so dang hard. YuGiOh is just as bad though
Man, the showcase frame for these is almost as bad as the original Amonkhet ones. Whose idea was it to make every card look like it's blue?
I'd beg to differ, but it's definitely fair to not like them. Frankly, I think it's great for the cards that have them since the greater majority is for the doctors, their companions, and other time lords like the Master and River Song. Sure, the few outliers don't entirely fit with it, but frankly, I think that the frame exists mainly for the actual TARDIS card and benefits most of them in terms of giving that doctor who flare.
The same person who decided to make every alternate framed card in Murders look like it's white.
It's fine for them to be seen as collectible pieces. Problem is, that they are also legal game pieces (which they should not, especially not for web cam magic).
