t’s people like you that are the problem with buying this crappy product and supporting wizards of the coast. Stop buying stupid crossover products and promoting it unless you’re just a sellout like wizards is. Do you want cross over and go play Fortnite.
The Doctor's personality and mannerism changes after each regeneration are drastic enough to consider the regenerations as though they are death/reincarnations; most peoples from most of the world through history would identify with Tenants view on the process. Smith's perspective divorces himself from the Doctor he was and viewing The Doctors throughout time as a singular timeless entity is fine from the observers chair but its a viewpoint trivializes and steps on the peoples emotional attachment and connection to specific Doctor incarnations. Jadzia Dax is not Kurzon Dax and Ezre Dax can never hope to be either Kurzon or Jadzia. And it's why Obi Wan Kenobi wasn't lying when he said Vader killed Anakin Skywalker. Smith's interpretation could be used to view all life on Earth through eternity under the umbrella Solaris impact and effect on the universe as all things here were created by and will eventually be reunited with Solaris and will cease to be as it does. And all the children of the big bang will all be reunited eventually when the big bangs black hole recollects everything it once created. Possibly resulting in 2nd bang and repeat for nigh infinity though most probably eventually ending as all perpetual motion machine attempts end 🤡 Being one with the universe and being and existing as a person within the universe are mutually exclusive and no Buddha or Guru yet has opted to stay in Nirvana all come running back to being someone now until death reclaims them for the everything.
And looking at the Doctors generations as individuals would allow me the pleasure of selling out the 13th to Dalek kill squad without feeling like I would be betraying the heroes that were the 1-11th Doctors. And it allows me to condemn the 13ths betrayal of everything The Doctor ever was instead of having to just accept 13's dreck as The Doctors just going through a phase
Like, please try to be immortal so you can wait out these terrible twos type centuries and wait for maturity to catch back up to him👁️🗨️

I am so glad that longtime Doctor Who fans worked on this project! You can tell by some of the older iconic episodes referenced. I've been watching Dr. Who since I was a kid (Robot was the first one I saw) so this is a real treat for me! Thank you for your passion and I can't wait to get my cards!
The Prof did such a fantastic job that surely someone as connected as you Gavin could get him an uncut sheet so he could display all those beautiful Sagas and other cards framed on the wall of the college and in the background of all his future videos.
I love seeing you and Brian together, and watching you both geek out over something you are both so emphatically in love with is super fun and extremely wholesome!

@@TokenBG seems to have done a 180 on his disapproval of UB and the Fortnitification of Magic. And given WotC appears to have reversed his blackballing as a reward, I expect a lot more positivity from him re: UB moving forward.

I appreciate that they made the Collector Boosters “swag only” for this set. Nice to know I don’t have to rely on them for anything mechanically unique.

At the same time it kind of sucks that premium treatment skins from extremely overpriced card game lootboxes built to prey on whales and people with gambling addictions are just something we accept now.

@@ImrahilToChaos it's the same idea fundamentally as cosmetics for PvP videogames, they don't affect the play experience in any unique way and are an alternate form of revenue for the company producing them. its a win win for both the company and players because the players can opt out with no downside and the company can make extra money.
@@xtensioncordtv1969 Lootboxes are unregulated gambling and are not a ‘win’ for the consumer ever. Special treatments you can only get via extremely expensive boosters or an inflated secondary market encourage a gambler’s mindset of ‘winning’. For the price that these boosters go for, that’s downright amoral. This was mitigated massively when rare cards only got as hard to get as a rare in packs, but WotC have over the years broken down the barriers bit by bit to monetise whaling. Please stop defending lootboxes.

I'm weirdly thrilled that the collector packs are an option with no unqiue cards. If I want the cards, get the decks, and if I want a special version, these are an option.
This is where I hope they push the collectability more and more over time. Make the mechanical cards cheap and easy to obtain, while the "cosmetics" are what you sell to the collectors.
I'm not a huge Dr. Who fan, but seeing both of you indulge in the flavour , and visibly enjoy it so much was amazing to watch.
dont blink is THE BEST episode to show someone doctor who for the first time, it is so intriguing and draws you in without the doctor even being present for the most part, after that they always want to watch the show
This is exactly what a set of magic should do to you. This is the best Universes Beyond set, period. The team did an amazing job and Prof did a great job showcasing it.
They’re still making monetised gambling boxes for it, so I’d say that until they stop universes beyond will remain being just another means for GW to whale hunt.
@@ImrahilToChaos I mean they literally stop the idea of gambling when you can just buy the entire deck and all its cards for £45 a pop no gambling needed but if you want to indulge in alt arts and foils for cards you don't normally foil this is great, I feel like you just wanna be so cynical towards WOTC when this is the first time in a long time where a product clearly has lots of passion and design put into it and giving you more options of treatments and foils just buy the single

@@odysseus1828 There is no difference between that and normal sets where you can get regular cards without special treatments in regular packs and then get the special treatments much more easily and at greater frequency via the collectors boosters. I’m not being needlessly cynical, you’re just making excuses for 25 dollar+ packs of cards made to prey on those with gambling addictions.

Gavin’s presence on these Doctor Who videos has been a real treat. It’s fun to see how excited he is about the ways this set has come together. I can’t wait to try it out!
On an unrelated note, is that a copy of Peter David’s Imzadi novel on the Professor’s shelf? Because that was a great novel.
I’m incredibly impressed at how well the mechanics of these cards reflect the identities of their subjects. And all while building off of well-established MTG archetypes that will benefit from the support!
I wonder if Spice appreciates the Angels’ library mechanics…
Martha Jones has always been my favorite Companion and I was so scared she wouldn’t get a card. The amount of pure joy when I saw her card I screamed.
For the Osgood thing, I think it's cool that they brought her back, but also implied that since the whole uprising has happened several times before, you don't actually know if either Osgood is even the original, or if they're just more Zygons taking up her mantle.
Colin Baker deserved so much more than what he got during his TV run, his audio dramas such as Holy Terror and Jubilee really showed that he could have been a top tier doctor.

Jubilee was one of the first Who audios I listened to and it was amazing. I think I started there because of the first Dalek episode with Rose.
Doctor Who and the Pirates or the lass who lost a sailor has to be my favourite 6th Doctor audio. Colin Baker needs to sing more patter songs.
I was fortunate enough to spend some screen time alongside Sylvester McCoy during filming a dodgy horror film in Cornwall. He was the nicest guy, who was more than willing to let me gush about Doctor Who continuously! And he's always been one of my favorites in the role, ever since I collected and continuously rewatched the VHS tapes back when they were out!
It's always such a joy watching people discussing a subject they're genuinely excited about, even when I'm personally barely aware of it. Things like these make me keep on going and following my hobbies even when it feels like no one cares about it. And of course, I'm closer than I've ever been to actually picking up the show. Thank you, gentlemen.

Yeah, if only it was an MTG IP. Clearly WOTC needs a licensing deal to devote this amount of love to a set now.
Right. Same care with the 40k decks. But very disappointed on the commander decks with the standard sets love. I get they can’t put 40 new cards in each deck, but still it’s a big gap.
I loved the Roger Delgado Master showcase in the "The Daemons" outfit. Was a good story, one of the Third Doctor's best.
I very much love the talk story box openings. It's a very chill time and I appreciate just hanging out and hearing about memories and feelings invoked by this game we love.

Yeah, I don't have a lick of knowledge on Doctor Who, never seen it and I don't play Magic, but the passion of these two is so infectious I had to see this after the Shuffle Up & Play episode. Loved the whole hour and twenty of it

I‘ve never seen a single Doctor Who Episode, but seeing Prof that excited and happy is a real joy.

I've no knowledge of dr who and I'm not particulary interested in the whovian commander prodcts. But I love to see the love and passion you two have for them. And that makes me appreciate them so much. Thank you two for all that you do. This was a treat 💕
Prof, your Dr. Who knowledge blew me away! Thanks for doing this video and revealing the cards and sharing with us your memories of the characters and episodes! This was a long video, but the best pack opening video i've watched to date! Hearing the designer take mingled with some trips down memory lane took me back to the days when Dr. Who was on PBS late at night I couldn't sleep and that show took me to dreamland many times after working nights as a young man!

This is a great episode! I love seeing the passion that both The Professor and Gavin have for Dr. Who and seeing them nerd out on that shared love and one something I know nothing about has been a delight.

THE DAEMONS is the TARDIS frame Master, Mesmerist. The Dalek Squadron has a gold Dalek, so my guess is Day of or Planet of the Daleks. Thriving Isle is from Peri's last, not first. That's Thoros Beta from 'Mindwarp', parts 5-8 of the Trial of a Time Lord. I believe the fisherman scene from Shada was filmed. This is so fun! Gavin, you did an AMAZING job.

Loved this as a life long dr who & magic fan, absolutely blows me away to hear that the actors all had to approve their likenesses so they've seen this beautiful art.
I know next to nothing about Doctor Who but I gotta say, I am LOVING just how much you two are absolutely nerding out over this set. That energy is downright infectious.
I'm really glad this exists. A full deck is a bit out of my budget at the moment, and this week make buying the handful of singles I want to get a tad easier. (And if I happen to get one for Christmas or something, I can get the alternate frames for my commanders).
This was very touching, on many levels (partly unspoken). also I always tear up with certain Dr.Who stories, this left me with a very warm and fuzzy feeling!
Absolutely loves this episode, I don’t watch or know really anything about doctor who but hearing all this amazing lore while looking at this fantastic art was a true joy, it could of been a longer episode and I wouldn’t of complained seeing your love of doctor who truly shine through when discussing these cards was incredible
I grew up watching Eccleston to Capaldi's run. Doctor Who colliding with a hobby I've recently come to love has been so exciting for me; and seeing Prof's passion for Doctor Who in this video is nothing short of heartwarming. It's clear that a lot of care and passion went into designing the set. While I cant shoot episode names from the hip like Prof., I am nevertheless excited and I cannot wait to be able to play these decks.
I very much enjoyed watching Gavin and Prof geek out about Doctor Who and seeing these cards in the boosters.
It's such a treat to watch fans appreciate the content that is created by them and for them :D

That quote rings so true to me, and out of all of the great quotes from the show (from '05 and onwards) this is the one I love the most since it speaks to me on a very personal level.

I never got into Dr.Who and basically don´t understand anything you guys are referencing.
BUT you have so much fun opening these cards and talking about the universe, I really want to get into Dr.Who and buy a box of these and when watching be like "it´s this card, what a great design!"

With Gavin as lead-designer you know it´s a good product, for me here are the two biggest pillars of the mtg community.
Genuinely love hearing the professors commentary during openings, it’s even better to hear him talk about doctor who so passionately

Professor and Gavin I love you guys! I wish I could have been there talking with you. It had me choking up bringing up all these amazing memories of watching Doctor Who. Seriously growing up watching this show this set hits home so hard and you guys do such a great job going over it.
The limit of 12 regeneration (13 incarnations) was set in the Tom Baker episode The Deadly Assassin

Maybe my favorite Tolarian CC video of all time. Their joy over this awesome new set was so heartwarming. I'm not usually a fan of the collector boosters, but knowing all the thought and detail that went into these makes me one to get one.
As a fan of Colin Baker's Doctor.. I kinda agree, but can't wait to make a 6/Peri deck!
I’ve given it a test run and - good god, the Commander pairing is stupid strong in a historic deck. I summoned the bug people card whilst both were out, and I wound up with an enormous army of insects
I know next to nothing about Dr. Who, but I watched this entire video - it's great to see you two completely nerding out over something that isn't (only) Magic, and to just hear people passionate about something go into it, as well as to see all the effort and thought that was put into the references on the cards, both in terms of the reprint art and flavor, and the mechanical callbacks to the show. Great fun, and it sounds like they couldn't have picked a better person to lead the set :)
I love this!!! I may not be a Doctor Who fan, but just watching two fans of both Magiv and Doctor Who gush about episodes and card designs is what this game and collectibles as a whole are all about! Great stuff Professor and Gavin!

I absolutely loved this video. I watched a little bit of doctor who a while back, but I would by no means consider myself a big fan. I just really enjoy listening to people talk so passionately about their hobbies and stuff they like.

I think that Matt Smith was the best doctor. He was my first doctor, and I don't usually cry, but I will always consistently cry when I get to the end of Vincent and the Doctor. The 11th Doctor's run just had so many laughs, so many tears, so many cool moments, and one of the most emotional send-offs of all of the Doctors. Matt Smith will always be my Doctor.
So happy to see Gavin and the Prof together in this episode and geeking out over Doctor Who. Awesome episode!

I've never watched any Doctor Who episode and only know some little bits. But despite that, I still watched this entire video, watching you tell stories about nearly all of the cards was just so heartwarming and fun. It makes me really happy, and I'm glad this set exists. I hope it helps make everyone understand just how cool those Worlds Beyond sets can be for people. And it also makes me really wish for a set with an IP that I love so I can be in that spot too one day.
Farwell was 100% David not wanting to quiting acting as the dr. Why he comes back alot and even has retunred as the main dr. He loved the role so much

I honestly dont mind them doing this for future Universes Beyond sets like this. It just gives players more ways to enjoy cards they love.
Yeah everything is in the precons, pretty happy with that decision even if I'm one of the magpies tempted to pick up foils from the collector product.
Yeah. It's 200 new cards total, give or take - 50 per commander deck - and everything else is reprints and/or alternate treatments.
@@ArmadilloAl The 'Blast from the Past' deck has a few very choice reprints in it, including Heroic Sacrifice and Three Visits, both of which fetch a decent price on the secondary market.

Gavin did amazing on these decks, they are SO MUCH FUN. this and the warhammer are the precons for me which made the most fun overall. really alot of new crazy stuff in them all

As a long time fan of Magic, and a relatively new fan of Doctor Who, my first reaction to hearing about this product was "Ugh, really?" But now after seeing the cards and watching this entire video, I gotta hand it to you all. This looks awesome. I could have easily watched another hour listening to you all talk about the cards. Thank you Professor, thank you Gavin, best box opening ever to my opinion. The lore explained (i stopped watching Doctor Who after Matt Smith regeneration) is such an immense value added and brings back a lot of memories to whose that know and might give the will to try for those who haven't.
Now looking at the art I realize Farewell is referencing the regeneration, but at first I thought it was a reference to his good bye to Rose, which is really his farewell that pulls at my lil heart strings.
