Prefer the more charming style of this mechanical and slide scanner era of TV continuity, before computer graphics took over and everything went slick and corporate.
Likely because the actual model has appeared since it's phase out on the evening of 17/02/85. It was seen on BBC One Northern Ireland's final analogue transmission in October 2012 but yeah, that can be probably why Scott said 1981-2008.
Actually, no. Neighbours was first shown in 1986 and Eastenders was first shown the day after the COW Globe launched. Wogan was in the Eastenders slots (the two shows alternated throughout the week)
That's strange because it was the previous ident (Yellow and blue with the white Futura Bold "BBC1" ) which was used exclusively throughout his reign as the Doctor. It debuted on the same day as part one of Robot (28/12/74) and was replaced by the one in this video on 5th September 1981, which meant it even introduced the final set of Tom Baker Summer repeats - Full Circle and The Keeper of Traken.
Thank you for this so much. I guess this was the last (ever?) showing of the twin lined BBC1 clock and globe that was seen? Presumably so I guess!!
Thank you for that!!
No, this globe was used until 7pm the next day.
And BBC closedowns/sign-offs will never be the same after the next day .
ahhh i remember this closedown.
This year should have been 39 years

February 17 is my birthday! I was born exactly 20 years after this, in 2005! How ironic is that!?
Not ironic in the slightest actually.
@@gregmcfarnon1140 In that case, it's more funny than ironic.
@@WolfKing-dv6xd Nope. It's neither. It's just your birthday. Everyone's got one.
@james Sounds like you already do.
@@gregmcfarnon1140the bbc closedown on the 15th February 1991 that was supposed to be my birthday BUT i was a week early

Time on the clock: 12:14 am.
@ BBC Television Ltd 1985
The font used for the menu looks very casual and not at all what one would expect from BBC1.
It's rubbish.

MOOOOOOOOOOOO
Well actually, the next day you saw this globe up until about 19:00 when the COW globe was launched
And on the same day you see the COW globe, you also see the first episode of Neighbours and the first episode of Eastenders.
Actually, no. Neighbours was first shown in 1986 and Eastenders was first shown the day after the COW Globe launched. Wogan was in the Eastenders slots (the two shows alternated throughout the week)
Mark Waddington was also the announcer who launched the COW transparent globe at 7pm on 18/2/85.
