Hi, I also made a video like this one for the Hobonichi Weeks. :) Some of the ideas will overlap, but I hope it'll still be helpful! Here is the link: ua-cam.com/video/933R32AkH6M/v-deo.html

Thank you for actually writing stuff in and not just talking over blank pages like so many others do.

Got a few new ideas to try out for 2024. I appreciated that you said to make the planner work for you. And don’t get caught up in the “right way” to use it. My notebooks and planners are no longer treated as precious and that has helped me to just use them.

I'm really enjoying your videos, you explain the basics well without too much creativity (I'm not a creative person!). Your video about mental health was useful because I struggle with an unreasonable amount of "issues." Often I make lists, then don't look at them. Or just don't feel like moving. I'm trying to find something to use this year (ONE planner only) that would be more helpful than what I've been doing for the last too-many years. Unfortunately I've fallen down the planner rabbit hole and feel even more confused than when I started. I look forward to more videos from you. Sheri

Glad you found these videos helpful! 💛 Sending you strength and love with whatever you struggle with. One planner only is great, I get overwhelmed if I have too much to keep track of which is counter productive :)

That is a deep hole. I spend a lot of time in there. I find it helpful to find similar printables for free to print and test the ones I think will work or sketch them out in a cheap dot grid composition notebook. Hobonichi requires I print the tiny grid (3.55mm for weeks or 3.7mm for other lines) and count squares for their gridded pages. In a couple weeks to a month I know if I can gain using that or if too much will be lost.
It isn't overly creative and can take a little time to set up, but it can help refine the search as possible layouts are crossed off narrowing the field without breaking the bank.

I love the cousin because of its versatility. I know a lot of people feel the need to fill everything out, but that’s really not necessary. Fill out what’s needed for the day, week, or month. Sometimes that’ll be filling out the entire weekly or just sticking to the daily, yet because the cousin has it you have the option for versatility

  • @jennycobb6912

BUT I WANT TO DO IT ALL! The mind of a planner/bujo addict 😩😅 thanks for the great ideas :)

The weekly is why I decided to leave the cousin because I felt like I was just using the daily pages to journal. I figured a Stalogy would be better than the cousin since it's cheaper. Now you've got me rethinking it all, lol.

I came from the planner that came before common planner and wonderland 222, the Jibun Techo (JT), it is just a vertical weekly. It is why I switched to the Hobonichi Cousin instead of the A6. Where the JT outshines the Cousin is the built in Gantt Charts, or as a lot of users use them, as habit trackers. They have one already laid out for each month. It is pretty much the same after that without the daily pages. They do sell a daily, but carrying around two books where one book only, the cousin, was easier on my back for my university backpack.

It was really useful, tank you! I’m used to the HobonichinWeeks since five years now as my everyday carry and I love it. I got myself a Cousin A5 for 2025 as a commonplace notebook and was a bit worry about the weekly pages, you gave me some good ideas ♥️

My side bar is the most experimental spot on my weeklies. My ADHD brain requires I keep things mostly set in stone. I do my trackers or weekly tasks there, but they are laid out differently. I want to know which day without having to write on the day I did it, but not have to read the date and look to see which it was. I put my days down vertical and have my tasks go vertical in the column (all my layouts are on grid paper so I can keep my lines straight without drawing out every line). That way I can get it to fit 7 tasks in an 8 column wide bar. It takes about 10 rows versus 20 if I did 2 rows per habit/weekly task and a line in between. I have habits and my weekly reset both done that way. I also have a few sidebar lines showing my gym and home exercises so I know the minimum for each location without having to remember what my current goal is.
I use the hours before I wake up to track my water intake as I am horrible about drinking as I tend to forget the passage of time and drinking most of the day. I put my sleep there and tasks for that day without a specific time, priorities first then others. (My hourly weekly goes midnight to midnight with 2 rows per hour so 14 blank rows above my wakeup.) I also note here if I couldn't sleep, what times were, and why.
I have division lines at the hour I wake up, time to go to my parents' house (only child and both are physically disabled so I am labor for the cost of a family dinner), when I go home, and when I go to bed. It helps me break down what time I have to work on personal projects. I time block my work hours. I put a little label in the margin for certain types of tasks like if I don't have things my parents need done, I can work on a few digital tasks sitting there, like skim email for junk I can delete without opening or things that need attention, delete unneeded texts, plug in a USB drive to transfer files to back up since big files take time.... It reduces the time spent on my weekly reset to have that done, and marking the day let's me see how far back I need to work the next round. I used to have routines in the sidebar, but they got a bit difficult to manage there with all the other stuff.
I put the movie we watch in the schedule where we watched it. I put in health issues at the appropriate time along with meds taken so I know when it is time for the next dose if needed. I note orders and deliveries on the days they connect so I can see how long it is taking along with trackers and such. (If it doesn't fit, I know it will also be on my daily in great detail.
I let my daily where the notes/journal space is hold any extra notes connected to the timed schedule items like beside my exercise I note which video I used if one was involved and what I did for how long. I throw in things I need to take somewhere. I have my mom's 75th birthday surprise party noted with the guests that attended, what we had to eat, and what gifts she received from who. My memories are better there than trying to squeeze them into the weekly boxes.

After contemplating for about a year, 2025 will be the first time I am gonna be using the hobonichi cousin. I was a bit skeptical about these weekly pages. These are some amazing ideas. I specially loved the ‘things that made me smile’ section! Definitely gonna integrate in to my planner. Thanks♥️

I use the long form yearly columns at the beginning of the avec to track my reading, I write the title of the books I read in each month. I like seeing it there, because I get to see all the books I've read as the 6 months continue...

It’s so funny to hear the general consensus about the vertical weekly, cuz for ME it’s the only part of the planner I actually use 😭😭 cuz it’s how I see time in my brain!! Kinda. Not exactly, but it’s close enough to where I never want to see another horizontal weekly again in my life. And I can’t function with a planner that’s just monthly and daily, I’d rather switch out the dailies for a vertical weekly (I don’t prefer monthlies, but I do need them for planning purposes, I think the yearly index is more so how I envision time within months, but there’s not enough room to write more than one thing down ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ ). So sorry to the A6 hobonichi I bought cuz it was cheaper, I barely used you 😔 so this year I’m getting a common planner lol
