Tip for anybody looking for a super cheap notebook that uses this wonderful paper. You can buy last year's cousin for like four or five dollars and use all the pages in it to scribble out notes or do whatever Year at a glance is great for bi polar
I use the yearly index to write down what bills are due on each day each month and then I highlight them when they are paid. Then the bottom box in each month I put our total income, total in bills and then total put into savings. The top I use to put my 3 budget goals for the month.
For the yearly in the front, I track several things using different "symbols". I use a dot (black is my choice) to mark my autistic meltdowns. I pencil around the dates of my cycle (like a highlight "outline"). I highlight in grey when I have a specific health symptom. I've also started doing a square box with a highlighter around the days when I take a walk. This way I can track several things that are happening the same day, while also getting a great bird's eye view of my year. It's great. Very easy to spot patterns and trends.
What a great idea! I’ve been trying to figure out how to better utilize this section in a more condensed way. I think this could work. I’ll just have to find some symbols to use. Thank you for sharing 😊
I’m an avid knitter/crocheter. I use one of my cousins for planning projects, keeping track of yarn , 🧶 list of projects in process, keeping track of my yarn stash Orders and just a plethora of things
Lots of great ideas I didn't think of. I use the monthly and daily pages as a traditional planner. I like to see the month at a glance separately from the week at a glance. I use the daily pages for journaling and memory keeping. I also make use of the blank pages in the back. Two are for When? as in last and next doctors' appointments (for me and the kids), and one is for home maintenance. One year I used blank pages to jot down all the movies and TV shows I watched and which streaming service it was on. At the end of the year, I found that I watched a lot more Netflix than Amazon Prime or Hulu, so I cancelled the other services.
I am planning to use the yearly index pages for tracking how many pages I read per day. I will color in one square for every 10 pages I read and fill the whole row if I read more than 100 pages that day. The spaces below the dates will be used for the titles of the books I read.
When tracking the cycle, it is good to have the data from the past year to see the patterns well or to be able to notice changes. I always transfer the markings from my previous planner.
I use the yearly index to keep track of which friend/family member I spent time with or talked on the phone. I try to connect with people who matter to me at least 1/month. In my hon size journal, I write one word that represents that day on the yearly index.
I just wanted to thank you (and everyone in the comments!) for all these ideas. I've never really needed a planner before or wanted one, but after my brain surgery last year my memory is a complete and utter blur and I'm hoping keeping track of things like mood and symptoms as you mentioned in the yearly portions of the planner will make it easier to actually remember those things. Having a doctor ask you for more info on something and you going "uhhh... it happened a few times?" is really not how I want my 2024 to go lmao
I’m actually using my hobonichi cousin as a homeschool planner this year! We start our homeschool year on January so it’s perfect. I’m using the year at a glance to track attendance, the index pages for milestones recording, the monthly for curriculum mapping the year as well as keeping track of field trips and events, the weeklies for preplanning what we will be doing daily, the dailies for reverse planning what we actually accomplished and anecdotal notes about the lessons completed. The blank pages before each month I’m going to add pictures of some of the highlights for the month. The 365 tracker I’m going to use to track the days we get outside for at least 2 hours.
This is by far the most informative and thorough video for this planner! Thank you!!!Just reordered. Last year, I fell off track, but this video has provided new insight into how I can make the best use of this amazing planner!
One of the best videos I've seen about the Hobonichi planners! All these ideas are inspiring. I'm really looking forward to getting started in 2025! On that blank monthly page I'm going to do a bingo card - where I include "goals" in a bingo card format.
For the weeklies - I’ve used it as an intermittent fasting tracker and sleep tracker, other times I’ve rotated the whole book so have a wider landscape space to write down daily memories/ highlights :)
Thank you so much for putting out ideas for those of us who are further down the path of life. I love looking at the adorable and cute spreads, but I need a practical guide as well. Cheers!
Yearly overview for trackers is an amazing idea I never thought of. I'm using it for custody days and times with my daughters father. We share a lot of time and it changes for holidays so its gets confusing and is a source of arguments. So I have to keep good track for records!
Thank you for making this video. I cannot wait to start next year with many of these great ideas! It really helps me take my planner to the next level and find a use for every single thing. Thank you! Thank you!
I use the year at a glance for tracking mood, with a dot marker. I use the yearly index as a habit tracker and the monthly to track weight, calories, water, bank balance and fuel consumption
New to the HC. Your video helped me to see that the HC is in many respects a pre printed version of many of the Bullet Journal layouts. How wonderful to not have to draw out each layout.
At 19:23 Morning Pages are mentioned. Morning Pages are simply 3 longhand written pages of brain dump each day. You might summarize some ideas from your pages, but there is no “intention” that comes out of the practice.
I use the year at a glance to mark my dog's flea and worm medicine, grooming, shots; I transfer the previous year info to the current planner for ready reference at the vet.
I’m so glad I found this comment because this is SUCH a good idea. I’ve been tracking all that on my phone but I think the planner will be nicer to use and make one less reason to look at my screen!
New Subscriber! I use my daily blank page for keeping track of orders or packages that I am expecting for that month. It serves as an overview for the month too, things I want to accomplish. I feel like you mentioned that in the goals though. Thanks for sharing your hobo journey and tips. I feel overwhelmed sometimes with all the possibilities. I have come to accept that I can try things and I don't have to stay committed to it if it doesn't work for me, that has helped. There are things I used this year.. that I will not use again next year and many things that I want to try and keep track of in the future. Thanks so much for sharing!
FANTASTIC VIDEO! I need to refer back to this. My first year with the Cousin and so happy to have your great ideas and tips to help me get started. Thank you!
Gir YES!!!! I have Two Planners & * Notebooks (I don't use them all in one day or even one week lol) so we shall see My self-care is in a hobo weeks lol @@PlanningAnnie
I want to thank you for this video! Wow! I was keeping three journals and after watching this video I have ordered my first HC journal and plan to make it my “all in one” journal!
This video was AMAZING! I stumbled upon it after I flipped through my brand new Hobonichi, and didn't know what to do with all of the pages in the front 😩. Thank you for these awesome ideas.
I just recently discovered your channel and I love your content. You think very similarly to how I do and I love that your faith is so much a part of your planning content
Love all of these ideas! Currently I use a color code key on the yearly index to track headaches, migraines, anxiety and panic attacks -the current year overview I mark when my grandkids are out of school and previous/next year over view page I cover with a printable I made with family/friends birthdays -the daily I divide top half as journaling/memory keeping and bottom half is verse of the day (I use Kingdom Bloggers yearly plan)
@@PlanningAnnie I started in January and have really really enjoyed it as well! I printed off the whole year on vellum and tipped in the monthly plan at the beginning of the month in my daily’s….it’s worked really well for me and I plan to continue into next year
Another very informative video. I love my A5 Cousin, I love A5 rings, but keep coming back to my Hobo cousin. For 2024 I am going to be committed to the one style of planning in my A5 cousin for all things family, home, Drs appointments etc. I also have an A5 Stirling Ink Common planner that I will use for all my own personal well being, self care, bible reading verse of the day, gratitude, crafting etc. Rather than having numerous planners that I just end up being overwhelmed with keeping up. I also have a B6 Stirling Ink common planner that I will use for our monthly weekly budgeting. I hadn't thought about using this for our finances until I watched your video. Thanks as always for sharing your ideas.💖💖💖
Glad to be a new part of your community. I’ve been trying to use the cousin for the past two years but do not get to maximize it. Thanks for these ideas. I would try to buy a cousin or an avec once again.
Thanks for the video :) For the 4 page yearly overview 2nd section of the cousin - I’ve used it before to write weight/ fitness goals at the top, weigh in and habit trackers in the daily section and then in the bottom section a monthly measurements check-in :) so very similar to your fitness version but with specific measurements in the bottom to compare monthly easily :)
Thank you for this! I’m wondering how to use the planner to set and achieve Goals. I have certain professional goals that I’d like to achieve. Thoughts? Ideas? Many thanks!
Just came across this video and loved it. I have a friend that has been wanting me to try this planner. So I was doing a little research on it. So many wonderful ways to use it. Thank you for posting it. Suggestion for he monthly view - it could also be used for a word of the day that you are trying to learn to write in some fancy way.
I'm planning on using the year at a glance for days when I'm home sick from work and planned days off, the Future log for symptom tracking and the dailies I plan on using for my tarot practice ❤ I'm going to try and put everything in one notebook instead of having around 3 or 4 that get abandoned throughout the year 😅
I had a cousin a few years ago but it seemed to be too much to process. Too many choices I guess 🤷🏼♀️ and just couldn’t figure out how to use it. I’m searching for my yearly planner and came across your video. I love all your ideas and may just convince myself to give it a try again. I want to keep everything in one planner without bulking it up. I went from TN to rings and now liking the TN. There are just so many choices and options. I am not good with so many choices. 🤦🏼♀️🤣 I love your channel. So glad I stumbled upon it! 💕
I make my own pages (usually printed but this and next year in a bound dot grid book) but find videos like this helpful for ideas. I use year at a glance for my kids’ school term; I track my cycle on a year view; monthly is appointments and events; weekly is listed what we (family of six) did that day and a small bit of journaling. I don’t use a year index or daily pages but I do have a few pages at the back for some pages on NDIS (Australian disability funding scheme) related things. Keeping track of six people (five of us disabled and three of those having multiple therapies and supports) so I like to keep it pretty simple otherwise it would overwhelm me.
Thank you for sharing these wonderful tips. In my 2023 Hobonichi, I solely used for my health while on Weightwatchers. I'm encouraged this is the only planner that I stayed focused on due to it's functionality, simplicity, and ability to change my set up any time I wanted too. First page a prayer and than a positive letter to my future self. Additional topics: My weekly meetings assignments, affirmations, memorykeeping, meal planning, tracking points, activity, weighs-ins, social media influencers, music playlist, books read, podcasts, movies, and all thoughts captured here. Just to name a few. ❤ I managed to lose 20 lbs and maintain but the biggest benefit was awareness & being present to enjoy life more. 😊 Something about a pen to paper is very rewarding to me. I just purchased the Botanical Hobonichi Cousin for 2024. Still deciding how I want to use. Many Blessings!🙏📗🖊☕️⚘️
You can also use the yearly planner with the longer monthly view to habit track. You just have to put the planner sideways and then you write the habits in the space left or right of the days. I personally just keep track of birthdays etc. in the middle part, above I write a few goals for the month and below are the books I want to read in that month.
I'm still trying to figure it out... I do a combination, but I find myself repeating what I have in monthly in the daily as well. Monthly in advance - this time of year hence my watching the video I add in holidays & the like in the monthly. Dailies more short term - at most a week in advance (even for known holidays - helps with anticipation and keeps me in the planner), but often only a day or two as a I journal, meal plan, add inspirational quotes/positive aspirations, news, birthdays/holidays. This year I am going to try to use the first part as a goal/habit tracker...
Don't have a Cousin, wish I did. I use the Year At A Glance to track precipitation. Rain, freeze. Pen only. A light circle, not much rain. Heavy circle lots of rain. Sometimes I use it to also track the primary moon phases full/new.
Great video! Looking for a new planner and very interested in this one. The pages look very thin. Is this so? Do you find makers or certain pens bleed through. Thanks!
The Hobonichi planners do have very thin Tomoe River paper. This paper is thin but super absorbent, works great with fountain pens and ball points pens. Hel pen ink takes a long time to dry. If you have never used Tomoe River paper before, you may want to search for content on this paper, Hobonichi Pen Test, things like that to make sure it will work for you.
I know I’m a year too late but why did I just discover your videos? I’ve been stuck for three years trying to figure out what to do with my multiple planners 😂
During Covid I used the index pages to keep track of my daily spending. As I was self employed, many of my jobs were cancelled or put on hold and if I didn’t work, I didn’t get paid, nor was I eligible for any government assistance. Therefore it was crucial that I didn’t spend too much of my savings as I didn’t want to end up broke in a foreign country. Fortunately I only experienced 3 weeks of total lockdown but could then travel to and from work, or work online - the government policy of the country where I was living. First I’d rule a line down the centre of each column so I now had two columns for each day. At the end of the day, I’d add up the receipts from all my purchases - supermarket, train tickets, gas, electricity, water, rent etc and put the total in the first column. In the second column I’d keep a running total for the month. At the end of the month, I’d compare my spending with what I’d earned to see if I was keeping my head above water or not. I could also tell if I needed to economise - ie take my lunch and a thermos with me, fill my water bottle from the tap, purchase discount train tickets wherever possible etc. After keeping track for 2 years - and my work never returned to pre-covid levels - I had spent $2000 more than I’d earned which I consider to be a win. I have since retired and returned to my home country but I was able to ensure that I had enough money left to purchase my ticket home as well as cover all my commitments before leaving.
I use the yearly as work days off/holidays, school closure, dr appointments. I'm adding more so I can reference the daily page that has notes from medical appointments. Monthly spread is my budget planning. Hourly pages for which office to work at and meetings. I'll also record BM and body temp (time slots used). Daily is for food, thoughts and appointments with details.

I use the yearly view for pregnancy tracker. Weekly accomplishment, Doctor appointment… so on
I'm still trying to figure it out...
Wonderful!! Thank you!!
Wow! Just came across your channel and new sub now! ❤ Thanks for sharing this info! And great planner and idea on how to utilize it! ✍🏻📝
Thank you 🙏 🤩Beautiful mani😍 color shades🤩 so pretty hands. Wonderful ideas for #Hobonichi fans 🙋♀️💓🥰📖👏👏👏perfect for next year HOBO planning✒️🖋️
Also, what about full moon trackers? That could be on yearly, index or weekly
Great ideas and a must watch video for hobonichi cousin users. Thank you!
What A GREAT vid and So helpful, and well presented!!
I love your nail polish! Who makes it? 💅
EXCELLENT VIDEO if there are more than 60 ways... do another video lol!
Great ideas!
I've never been a fan and now im questiining my need for the cousin!!!!

Love it, love it… I would love to buy one that starts in July-Jun 😢 is there a second cousin that you know of.
There is a Hobonichi Cousin Avec that starts in July & ends in December!
Just got the 2024 a Ev and also ordered the techno 25 entire year!
Wow, this is fantastic, thank you. So much to consider ahead of 2024 🙏
I know I’m a year too late but why did I just discover your videos? I’ve been stuck for three years trying to figure out what to do with my multiple planners 😂
Loved this list!
I love this video and your nails😍
Good thoughts..Thank you.
Thanks for this insightful video!
I use the yearly as work days off/holidays, school closure, dr appointments. I'm adding more so I can reference the daily page that has notes from medical appointments. Monthly spread is my budget planning. Hourly pages for which office to work at and meetings. I'll also record BM and body temp (time slots used). Daily is for food, thoughts and appointments with details.
did you have a preference to the A5 or A6 cousin? or always stuck with th eA5
I prefer the A5.
