- From Luke 5:27-32
If you have been following along with this series in Luke, you might notice that Levi is the 4th person to be called to follow Jesus so far in Luke’s narrative. Peter, James, and John were first, and now we have Levi joining the ranks of early followers. The first three, Peter, James and John, all belonged to a respected social group - they worked to earn a living as fishermen. Levi on the other hand, was a tax collector. He was complicit as a cog in the Roman machine of oppression. Tax collectors would line their pockets by stealing from the pockets of the working class like these fishermen. But here - but here we see - that Jesus even calls Levi to be one of his own.
I’ve got 3 quick observations to consider today - and I’ll post one line for each of these three things in the comments below. So scroll down there and consider what you can reflect on today.

Branch Together brings Christians together to read the Bible every day. We know as Christians that we are called to "branch out" and reach the world around us, but first we must come "together" and develop habits that help us grow to be more like the people Jesus is calling us to be. So before we Branch Out, we Branch Together. Some people might call this Daily Devotions, or Quiet Time...whatever you call it, our videos kickstart your most important daily habit.
In addition to starting your day with Scripture, we create videos to help you study, memorize and worship.
BT is run by a couple churches working together in Red Bank, NJ. (Branch Church - branchchurch.org and First Baptist Church - fbcredbank.com)
Scripture quotations have been taken from the Lexham English Bible
1) We are all sinners. Are you letting Jesus change the ugly parts of you or keeping them tucked away?
2) Both the fisherman and the sinner were called to the same thing: leaving everything and following Jesus. In what ways is your life reoriented around Jesus?
3) Who are the “sick” around you? What does reaching out to them look like?
💛 He is working and moving in my life in new ways this year. A lot of it will be hard, and I have that anticipation. But He is guiding me through it all.
Thankk you for this lesson today, the questions and the enlightenment that brings. I will be thinking about these as the day unfolds. Love, peace and blessings 🙏❤️
There are things I'm not comfortable bringing to anybody but Jesus and indeed I am letting Him in to every area, as I've come to truly believe He knows it all anyway and is just waiting for us with nothing but love....how foolish to hide before the One Who sees it all.
The Lord Jesus meets us in our mess but He doesn’t leave us there. In His mercy and love He heals us. I realise I need Jesus because I am sick.
Thank You for all your Good Works!

For Mathew (Levi) it was Literal, and for the fishermen, they had nothing except for a couple poles and a boat.
Thankyou in helping me with my following Christ journey.......Bristol UK

Isn’t the tax collector Matthew?
Hey Kevin! Most likely yes! In this account the name is Levi so that is how we refer to him.

❤ It so amazing that God is willing to meet us our point of need, our mess but we think we are not worthy of His grace and mercy. Thank God for Who He is👐
