Lot was a wealthy man and Abraham was blessed but these men put God above their wealth. I think many of us want too many things. I know I get like that too. I am not rich. I am not even middle class lol I would say lower middle class and I am grateful for everything God has given me :)
This is so real to me. I had suffered a long time when I was younger. I felt so much closer to God than I have in more recent years, after God has blessed me with more peaceful times. I had a moment that brought that realization to me last year, and I am working on getting back to feeling as close to him as I used to. With the peace, came comfort. And with comfort I slipped. Thank you for this message!
Good title! Definitely caught my attention. It's pretty cool coz this was exactly my prayer today. I have never been more comfortable now in my life but I know what it was like to struggle. I hope that when times are rough again, I will enjoy Him more and not complain.
I give thanks to God every morning for his blessings and I think upon him daily st some point. I do feel blessed by Jesus every day and spend time writing about all of this every morning and evening. I do remember how my life was when I didn’t and Jesus saved me from that mess and guided me to joy and happiness. This is available to everyone. In the words of the rock band Blind Faith, “everybody knows the secret, everybody knows the score…”
I think it's very much true that the comforts of life can distract us from the comfort of God's word. I guess the questions to reflect on are - Do we seek God when we are in comfort or when we are in discomfort ?, Do our Earthly comforts occupy our time and substitute a desire to seek out God in our lives? I guess what Jesus is really saying is - Woe to those who seek comfort in earthly possessions and neglect seeking comfort in God.
Hey BluPlays- I think a few things: Becoming aware of places where you turn to comforts instead of God is huge. Notice how Jesus does not give a command in this passage, but rather simply explains things the way they are. Identify if you are any of these people who he describes! and I think like Mark said above, giving thanks in the hard circumstances because you will be FILLED and BLESSED as you walk through hard things. Rejoice, leap for joy in that day! Maybe you aren't in a hard thing now, but when you are, you can hold on to the promises Jesus makes. I think lastly, not putting all your eggs in the basket of this life. Jesus is clear that those who are full in this life have received all there is for them, and boy that's sad, since we know there is so much more awaiting us in the Kingdom of God!
Amen.

I've been thinking about this passage recently and I'm still not entirely sure how to apply it to my life. Any thoughts?
