- Rather than spending $50+ on a new control unit, let me show you how to fix it on your own for a couple of bucks!
Here's the bulbs I used: amzn.to/2FJTv2F
Soldering Iron Kit: amzn.to/2KzW8mm
Solder: amzn.to/2Rg99nH
Soldering Rosin: amzn.to/2ReZIVj - Авто та транспорт
I replaced the three bulbs on my daughters 2005 Jeep GC today. I followed the video instructions and the project went flawlessly. As an engineer I am shocked that an automotive design engineer would require someone to get to the pc board level to change a bulb and to make it require unsoldering and soldering. I ordered the bulbs as shown on ebay, it was about $10 for 5 bulbs incl shipping. Thank you so much for taking your time in putting the video together; it was well done and had the right amount of detail.
Just fixed the lights on my 2009 Grand Cherokee using this video. The instructions are spot on and it worked like a charm. $5.00 for 10 bulbs from Amazon, versus over $150 for a new control unit? Hell yeah. Thanks Jack.
This worked for my 2006 jeep commander! My jeep uses the same A/C unit and these instructions worked great. I paid $4 for the Eiko 2162 bulbs rather than spending $100 on a replacement module. Awesome!
I just want to know that I followed your instructions/advice on destructing and resurrecting my A/C control bulb replacement and all went really well. Thank you, your instructions were "point on". Great job!!!
I appreciate you telling the viewer the part number of the bulbs! I've been trying to fix this exact situation in my wife's Charger fit years. Finally. Thank You.
Thank you for this video. I had the same problem with my 2006 Grand Cherokee Laredo. One thing that may have been missed, there is a screw in the back of the bottom compartment of the control bezel.Mine was a regular Phillips. Mine did not come off until I remove it, so don't force it. You see the slotted hole bottom compartment about 3:31 in this vid.
Thank you for the video to show that it can be done. I just followed your video in attempting the same repair ( heater controls not lighting up) on my 2008 grand Cherokee Laredo. Though my dash came apart differently the repair was the same. To the followers reading these posts be careful when removing the bubs from the plastic pods they are brittle from the heat I ruined one by squeezing to hard with my needle nose pliers. But ended up just soldering the bulb directly to the board we'll see how long that lasts but as for the entire job easy and worth taking the time to do all lights are working and don't have to use dome light anymore. Thank you!!
wow I just realized having the lights not work on the a/c dosn't bug me anymore thanks.
Dame that I will just buy a whole new unit😂
I would like to say thank you cause I fixed mines today cause of you. I ordered everything and it's working fine. Mines been out for months and I was going to buy a whole new a/c module for my 2007 dodge charger. Thank you again!
Thanks for the video. I have a 2009 Grand Cherokee Limited that had three of the five bulbs burned out. I replaced them all. Your video gave me the confidence to do it myself.
Thank you! Great video too. I love how many cameras/angles you had set up. Great job!
Just fixed the Lights in my 08 Grand Cherokee this weekend.
They hadn’t worked in years. Wow what a difference. Definitely worth it. Makes
me wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. If you’re thinking about it, do it. I
recommend getting Trim Sticks for prying the trim off. $10 for a set from
Amazon. Harbor Freight probably has them as well. Also a 5/32” socket is worth
tracking down for the little hex heads holding the module on the back of the
trim. In the video you will see him using plyers. That will work but takes
longer and more frustrating. I used the bulbs that were recommended from
Amazon. The only tricky part is soldering on the board. There is very little
room to make the connections. I barely got them on there, but they are
holding. I’ll be happy if it lasts a couple of years. Next time I may track down LED’s. Thanks for posting the video. I would have never tried this without seeing it done. Peace.
Thanks for this video! I just replaced the bulbs in my '05 GC and it worked perfectly! (it also gave me a chance to really clean all of the crevices..bonus! (seriously, thank you!)
Thanks for this. As opposed to taking off external parts, pulling off the interior always takes guts and someone showing some details is so valuable!
I have a 2006 with the regular entertainment unit so that part is different - there is one clip on the bottom of the bezel underneath the radio that you just pull to free, and then the rest sort of wiggles out..
On my car, the silver trim ring around the shifter has 6-8 tabs on it - not the long tabs on the video, and comes out by hand, worry-free.
One thing to note is that the vertical bezel that holds the control unit may not easily pop off as in the video. The top may come off more easily, but the bottom is something else. You get your hand underneath it, at the bottom, and pull hard. It takes guts to do this stuff because you always think that something might break. Always try to use hands versus tools, which have the power to break stuff or at the very least may leave a mark.
I do have to say - if you do not have decent soldering experience, the actual circuit board part may be difficult. Make sure you use tips and solder size as in the video. That said, let's say you try it and that part doesn't work so well. All that does is get you to the point where you need to buy a new head, which is cheap, and just screw it in!
Much appreciated Jack. I just changed the lights on my 08 today. I considered using LEDs but thought better of it considering the light angle only goes 25 to 30 degrees. I used the same brand as you & they are perfect.
Great video .... great tool. I just follow your video and I finished fixing my Grand Cherokee 2005. The control unit is now perfect. Thank you
I just replaced the bulbs in my 2010 Cherokee. This guide worked great! Thanx for posting!
I cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge! you explained so well thanks
I am glad that it helped you out! Cheers!
Thank You Jack for helpful, and step by step manual. New bulbs ( smaller - 14V, 50mA ) are replaced - it takes about half an hour :-)
greetings from Poland
Thank you for watching and please subscribe as I will be posting up more jeep stuff soon!
Just did this on my 2008 WK Limited and it worked out well. The old bulbs had a blue sleeve which I did my best to remove and install on the newer bulbs.
Glad to hear it works. I’ve got an 06 WK that has no lights at all working below the stereo. I’ve already a ordered replacement heating unit (unfortunately) but I assume I can also replace the bulbs on the info panel and the lower bar with the heated seats, pedal, tow/haul buttons on?
Yup - the whole dash is unfortunately incandescent bulbs. If I had to do it over again, I would probably look at doing it with LEDs so it never has to be done again.
I have a 2007 Dodge Charger with the same heater switch. I ordered the parts repaired it today. Worked like a champ. Thanks for this video!
+busa89 Glad I could help!
Hey bro.As it works positive and negative on the Dodge Charger?thanks
Very nice illustration! I appreciate the help, went very smooth!
I watch this video every couple of years to remind me that I am not bothered by the broken lights.
😂🤣
Thank you - I just completed this repair today following your guidance. Much appreciated!!
Awesome - so glad that this helped!
Thanks this helped alot. I just fixed the bottom smaller bulbs(272-1154) 12 50ma from radio shack. it was hell 4 me. now gotta do these. thanks for the video...
+Jack Brunson Jr. I just did the 3 bulb replacement tonight because my vent selection bulb was dead and reinstalled it after ordering the 2162s off Amazon. Went flawlessly. THANK YOU : ) They're very bright now. I like it.
Great video man! It helped alot in repairing these burned out bulbs.
Thank you!! Great video! Changed out my 3 bulbs on my 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Awesome cheap fix!
I just changed the lights in the heater controls and it works perfect now. It's easy to do
Just did this repair. Thanks for the video! I bought the Eiko 2174 bulbs from Divine Lighting.
Great vid!!! I am about to make the same bulb replacement on my 06 Chrysler 300. Thanks a lot my man!!!
Great video!! Thank you! I will be trying this on my 05 GC tomorrow.
I like the video, just took mine off and I noticed that after you get the unit out, you don't need to take all of the screws off of the back as you can pop the 6 tabs and open the a/c unit with out this extra step.
Thanks Jack. Replacing a few bulbs in the Cherokee is a lot cheaper than replacing the whole a/c unit. A bit of a challenge getting the back wiring off, but all good.
THank you for your time to post this....very helpful!!! :)
I cannot thank you enough for sharing your knowledge! you explained so well. i just fixed mine thanks to you! this was something that i wanted fixed but did not have the money and thanks to you i feel so proud that I fixed it myself! thank you so much!!!.... NOW!.... I like your stereo, can you give me info on what is it and where you bought it? did you mount it yourself? once again THANK YOU!
I don't know if your still on you tube or not but if you are I just replaced the bulbs in my 2005 jeep worked great thanks
Yup, just been busy with life. Glad it helped!
2006 grand cherokee overland
Thanks for this video!
My problem now is got the lights 2162 but i think there too big for the reset light
Thanks for the vid my lights are out on my 05 GC and its annoying when its night. Thanks for the video on how to fix it for cheap!
Great video man! I'm going to attempt this on the wife's jeep! Thanks for posting
This was so easy and saved me so a was of cash. Thank you!!
Thanks! your video was a great help for the bulbs and the How Too!
Awesome to hear! Happy Jeeping!!
Great video. I did mine yesterday. Thank you very much!
Thank you very much, you helped me fix our 2006 Jeep Commander which is almost identical.
Great video. Just finished it. Works as shown. Only problem: I had blue covers on the bulbs. Almost destroyed the first one trying to take off the bulb. Silicone spray helped. Sprayed and then carefully pulled the rubber with my thumb nail. Went around the bulb several times. Each time I pulled further. Gave the silicone time to penetrate and you could feel how the rubber came lose. Silicone also helps to put them back on and also to put the black rubber mats from the smaller assemblies back on.
My bulbs blown as well. I will soon replace them. I can only find locally 12V miniature bulbs in two dimensions 4x9mm or the 3x8mm. Which one fit to the AC unit ?
amazon sells those 2162 bulbs for $5.50 for a pack of 10.
just put mine on order today. thanks for the video
Thank you great video I fixed it n just 3 dollars out of my pocket excellent keep up
Great video Jack. Just so you know, my 2006 Grand Cherokee has a Phillips head screw in the small compartment between the two charging ports.
Awesome video. I ended up screwing up part of soldering the lights to the board. They arr somewhat tight but have a little wiggle room. I may end up ditching those little boxes and soldering them up straight to the board. Otherwise worked great. Lifesaver!!
Thank you so much for watching! I'm glad it was able to help you out. I was just couldn't must the thought of buying a whole new control board simply for some little bulbs. I haven't had any of them go out since then, so it was definitely worth the time and effort to do it.
Such a helpful video, but I'll add that when you take off the bottom panel with the ac cluster theres a Phillip's screw where the little cubby part is you need to remove.
Going to try this on my 2010 diesel. Thanks for doing this.
maan , ur awsome , i just finished doing it , thanks a lot and god bless u .
What size bulbs did you use and where can I but them.
Thanks for the video! I have an '07 Overland with the dual-zone climate control. Do you happen to know if it uses the same size bulb?
excellent video very helpful will make the repair myself thanks for posting it.
Thank you for watching! Please feel free to subscribe and check out my other videos. I just picked up a tow truck and am build a Jeep CJ and a custom Jeep trailer as well!
Great video. Is this how you repair all the dodge, jeep, etc... heater/a/c lights. I have a 2002 dodge Dakota.
Very nice work and well done. I have a Jeep Commander 3.0 CRD and looks like the 2 out of 5 (?) lights on climatronic are gone while all are off for the other 2 control modules: one with C/T, Reset, Step and the other with pedal adjust, seat heater, ESP on/off, parking system on/off. I understand that for A/C module you install EIKO 2162, what about for the other 2 modules? Is it EIKO 8111?
Hi great video I really appreciate you trying to save us money this way. I have an 07 jeep grand cherokee.
I took everything out and noticed on your jeep the information Center was lit. As mine never was. So I took that apart and found
There were 4 blue bulbs none working. I have one question. Could I use clear bulbs if I can't find the blue ones?. Once again Thank you for this great information it was a great help.
@@willgillette7910 Absolutely! Those lights will just have a different color to them is all. I am glad to hear that this was helpful for you. I miss making these videos/need to get back into it. Hope you have an amazing week!
great video saved me some monaaay. 14 people work at dealerships.
Glad this helped you out! Thanks for watching!!!
ty for the vid helped me out with my 07 dodge caliber ac moudle
can you show how you got the knob for the fan motor off, I am unable to get it off and don't want to break it. thank you, my jeep is a 2008 grand Cherokee laredo
Awesome! Thank you for uploading this. Just bought 5 bulbs for just a few dollars. Anyone know where I can buy c/t, step, reset, menu buttons? The letters are wearing off on mine.
Thank you for the video i just fixed my ac manual control cost me $10
Hello jack I have the same problem in my wk 2008, but also the gear shifter console lights don't work? How can i change the bulbs? I hope you can help me thank you.
Ok, I am going to do this in a week from now. But, I was wondering if you knew if the bezel lights were the same? My heated seat and traction control light burned out as well as the "set" button. Do I do the same thing to those?
worked great thank you!!
Could you do LED lights that are brighter? If so which would I buy, I have the exact same car and issue
“Pull the red clip up and press on the button”, wowzer! Thanks so much, I just spent an hour wrestling with that one wiring harness, 😆 Hopefully now it will come off…
So glad this helped! Isn't youtube great???
After a few (too many) hours of fiddling, some rediscovered-from-my-youth basic soldering skills, I finally have some lights on. I’ll probably get some of those stick-on button labels to try and tidy them up. Thanks again! It’s great to be able to find my heater controls at night :)
Found your video very, very helpful! Like you, I have the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo! And, 2 of the 3 lamps had failed, such as in your case. As recommended, Amazon.com had the replacement lamps. My most difficult task was removing the top section attached to the dash, but with careful and cautious prying it opened enough for me to get a good grip and pull. Unseating the many plugs on the wire-harness was challenging, but managed. I was a bit taken back by you using locking-pliers to removed the mounting screws on the rear assembly. Perhaps you edited your video to not include replacing the screws, as they were last viewed laying on your workbench. ;-) Using a 5/32 in. socket made removing and reinstalling the screws a piece of cake.... Mine have been replaced and will make night driving much more enjoyable. Thank you for your effort in creating this presentation. Best, Ed
Thanks much I bought same bulbs at amazon. I had five bulbs to replace since I have the limited edition
Only problem I had was the blue cover it didn't come off it just fell apart so lighting is now different
And now I will be looking for smaller bulbs for the information center they are all gone too it's smaller size. Any one knows where to get it ?
Thanks again
It worked great. Thanks. $15 fix.
Thank you for watching and please subscribe as I will be posting up more jeep stuff soon!
Great work! Have you had to replace any of the other console bulbs besides the HVAC? Thats my problem at the moment but I haven't really looked into it. my step and reset buttons are out and so are my seat heat lights.
That's just brilliant, thanks Jeeper :)
Do the 2162 lights work for both the HVAC controls as well as the 'control strips' above and below (the ones for the heated seats, etc.?)
You're the man! Thanks
Nice Video. Have you experienced any problem w the Hot/Cold Temperature dial!? It's parat of the assembly that you took off to replace the light.
Mine is not warming as much as it did, even after flushing the Heater Core!
Where to get that little blue things on bulbs? When i get them off they just broked.
Great video. I have to do this and am nervous!
Nice how to, I appreciate it. I'm about to do this same repair but 1st I have a few questions. Will I need to consider polarity? Aren't the LED Wires +/- ? Obvious diff from the remaining stock bulbs (color/brightness)? I'm considering Amber colored bulbs, what do you think? Thanks again
HI FRIEND.....ANY chance you can tell me where to buy the LED lights for a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee...for the AC /heater control unit....????...thanks....lance morrow....
Hello Jack,
I just replaced the bulbs on my 2006 Cherokee yesterday and it went great. This morning I turned on my heater to warm up the car and in now blows cold and only from the dash vents. Is there something I missed? Any help is appreciated.
@Jay Are, I have this problem and am considering replacing with LEDs since they'll last longer. Have you been successful? How'd you figure polarity? Any other tips/ gotchas?
@Warmanbd; i've too busy with work, family, and other little tinkers. but it's still on the to-do list
Great video
Thank for for the outstaning video. The bulbs work but the climate control will not turn on,. Any advise?
Hell Yeah! Thank you my brotha!
+tisoy909 You're welcome!
Awesome I was looking for a video like this. I was also curious if this work on a 2008 Grand Cherokee. I think it would, but just thought it would make sense to ask and make sure.
the lights on my shifter wont come on do you have a fix for that as well?
Can these be replaced with anything brighter like an LED?
I have the same problem. Was just about to rip into it when I found your video. THX
Thank you so much for watching! I am glad to hear this helped you out. Hope the repair goes smoothly!
@@jbrunsonjr Yup! 100% RIGHT! That fixed it! THX so much.
That's awesome man!!! The lights are out in my wifes 06. But its the module below ac control. Same process?
i have a 99 jeep cherokee. i removed and then re-installed the a/c control module and now the air only comes out the defrost. any suggestions on how to fix this problem? thanks
anybody know where to get the plastic piece that the bulb sits in?
Jack, Thanks for the great video, what gauge solder did you use for the project? Going to use your video to do this repair this weekend. Thanks so much. Shane
I would like to know if these three bulbs are wired in series (since the lighting seems to die all at once), and if anyone knows a good LED replacement. If they're in series, its likely that only one is blown - but it's still probably a good idea to change them all. Unlike the incandescent bulbs, LED's are polarized and would need to be soldered in the right orientation. A series resistor would also be needed, unless it was integrated into the LED assembly.
There is another similar video out saying these bulbs are polarized and have to go in the right way. I will have to replace bulbs in same unit but in a 2010 Dodge Dakota. Wondering if hopefully they are not polarized. Thoughts??
How do you know where is thenpositive and the negative for the LED?
the 2182 work as well i bought them by mistake
Thank you thank you!
@Rory Hwould that type of bulb have +/- wires? thx
