HOLY. COW. That's really the only way to describe this experience. We spent our afternoon with Julia, a local Athenian and expert on the area. From the moment we began the food tour, we knew that we were in excellent hands. We began our Athens food tour by meeting at Crème Royale where we met the rest of our group for a small Greek breakfast pastry called a Bougatsa. This was definitely the sweetest part of our journey and an excellent way to kick the food tour off. After getting a taste of the sweet, we made our way to Evripidou Street for a smell of the various spices & herbs that make Greek food so special. We spent some time observing locals going about their regular routine of picking the best ingredients the markets had to offer before making our way to the olive stand.
The olives were hands down the most eventful part of the tour. There we sampled more olives than we ever dreamed we would. From sweet to bitter, wrinkled to round, and every color under the sun, we got to taste every regional Greek flavor you could think of. This was definitely near the top of the highlights during the tour.
After eating our weight in olives, we made our way to a local shop where Julia made us her homemade Tzatziki Sauce. We watched in awe as she made it in front of us before serving it on Paximadi Bread and slices of cucumber. This was paired with some breakfast wine and meats/cheeses. This was unquestionably our favorite part of the entire experience. Her homemade Tzatziki Sauce is one of a kind and we felt so blessed to be able to eat it.
After leaving we made our way to a few more stops, including a street food stand where the locals like to go. We learned how to make "The Perfect Bite" before walking into Central Market where we sampled some fish soup and wandered about the fish market. After weaving our way through the various stands of fish, we made it to our final stop where anchovies, calamari, zucchini bread, and cooked legumes awaited us. We washed it down with some Raki and red wine before saying our good-byes to our lovely guide and group.
This experience felt so personal and unique. We cannot say enough good things about Julia or the service she provides. If you would like to take on this experience yourself, then please click the below link to book her for a tour or an online cooking class with her from the comfort of your home:

YOU WOULD LOVE IT!!! We're going to have to do an Airbnb online experience with Julia when we get home so that you can meet her and see some of her tricks. She's a wizard when it comes to Tzatziki Sauce!!
We went on Julia's Athens Food Tour in June 2022. My wife, Adriana, said this was the highlight of our 2 week Greek vacation. Julia was a wonderful hostess and guide. Do not miss this if you will have some free time in Athens! Julia and her husband George are so friendly. We really enjoyed ourselves.
This is AWESOME Gary!!!! We love Julia & George. The entire experience felt so unique & exclusive. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our vlog & give some feedback on your experience with her as well. Hopefully it encourages even more people to book with her!!
Thank you guys for visiting my country! Greece 🇬🇷 is amazing!!
Thank you so much for watching our vlog Stavros!!! Greek food is the best out there for sure!!!!
I live in Athens. You found and tasted really traditional food.bravo
Thank you so much Nana!!! Our goal was exactly that, so it's so reassuring to read your comment. You have some incredible food!!!!!
Definitely adding olives and anchovies to the holiday menu this year just for Hannah!
YESSSSSSSS!!! We'll make a special batch of anchovies just for her!!
Oooo I just came back from my first time in Greece and loved it! I will definitely be going back and when I do I’m going to book this tour. Looks amazing. Greek food is so delicious. I also tried anchovies for the first time when I was there and was shocked by how much I loved them! They always looked so gross to me but they were actually delicious!
I can promise that if you book Julia's tour, you certainly won't regret it!!! We seriously felt like we were walking through the markets with a celebrity. EVERYBODY knew her🤣 We can't recommend it enough. We can't wait to get back to Athens at some point because the food is just incredible! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our video!!!:)

"I'm not a fan of olives"
*screams in mediterranean*
Not my finest moment😂😂
Yummy
It was soooo good!!
It's a Breakfast wine 😂😂😂❤
A wine for every time of day! lol Thanks for watching!
I’m right there with you. Olives and anchovies are very low on my foods to try list lol
I gotta admit I was skeptical too. But Fried Anchovies weren't NEARLY as bad as we thought they'd be LOL
Μάλλον δεν ξέρετε τι ακριβώς είναι ο γαύρος! Είναι ο πιο εκλεκτός μεζές!
5:49--what ever this is called--the Perfect Bite? it looks DELICIOUS! Purple Onion, Tomato, mustard (?) sauce, Pita (?) bread & grilled lamb(?)
You Both Are Looking To Cute .
Lots of Love From Bottom of Heart .
Thank you so much for the kind words!!!!
Concerned that you both don't like olives. I feel personally offended
Okay watched you actually trying now. Glad you maybe decided you like them. Still concerned that you had never even HAD an olive?!? that blows my mind
Trey's "strategically" avoided them his whole life apparently LOL. There were definitely some olives that blew us away though. Who know they were so versatile???
❤️❤️❤️👍👌
Thank you very much!!!!
Nice but veery short tour.
To clarify, the whole tour is 3-4 hours. This video is a highlight of all the fabulous food and drinks you will find on her tour. It was fabulous!
When in Greece, we aways love to have grilled squid or octopus. Also chicken shish kebab with greek salad. We can go forever on those. :)
Those are such great ideas!! We'd seen a few stands with the squid & octopus but didn't work up enough courage to try it😅
Olives come to many sizes and many different tastes like sweet and bitter. Did you know that actually you can make a sweet out of olives? But I object strongly in the way miss Julia makes tzatziki. We don't dry at all the cucumber we add to the mix of the ingredients and we also add in it a big spoon of vinegar thus making a fresh but digestive for all that meat you accompany it.
We tried LOTS of different olives on our tour and Julia told us all about the flavor profile of each olive we tried. Her tzatziki was also incredibly delicious. She was very generous to share her family recipe with us, but we didn't want to spoil her entire Airbnb Experience so the entire tour/recipes are not shown. You'll have to book and see for yourself! Thanks for watching!
@@ProbablyLost i don't doubt she makes a truly good one maybe excellent for some. But in my opinion it's like the commercial edition made for pitas of gyro or souvlaki skewers that it doesn't come out of the bottom of the pita. It's a lot more firm in texture but the one I prefer is more of mouthwatering especially on these hot days of summers where you need to receive as many fluids as possible. Miss Julia can serve it both with fork or spoon or even use a knife to apply it on bread or pita but what I am suggesting is only strictly served with spoon otherwise it ends up everywhere😂😂😂 literally. Also its more digestive this way.
❤
As a greek, we are food spoiled af. I did not realise how shit the quality of produce is on other "Western" countries and their accessible food until i moved for my master's in another country and 90% of what i was trying was just bad quality.
Man I honestly couldn’t agree with you more. Greek people have it made with their cuisine. Hands down our favorite food in the world. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch our video!!
Olives are great. What you talking about Willis
That's EXACTLY what I was telling Trey the majority of the time🤣 Nobody does olives quite like Greece. It's Olive Heaven for sure!!!! Thank you so much for watching our video Ken!!!!
My pleasure. Keep putting out your great videos
The Culinary Letdown: A Californian Quest for Gourmet in Greece:
When our food-obsessed group, proudly wearing our Californian foodie badges, decided to embark on a culinary journey to Athens, our spirits were as high as the ancient Acropolis. The land that gifted the world democracy surely had a plethora of flavors awaiting us. Instead, we were met with a flavor plateau that left us yearning for more.
The perpetual offering of souvlakis with unapologetically stale bread became a predictable fixture of our Athenian dining experience. The red and green bell peppers dolmas, while vibrant on the plate, echoed a monotonous tone on our palates. We couldn't help but wonder: Where was the fresh baked bread warm from the hearth? Or the comforting embrace of a hot soup or the gentle warmth of a well-brewed tea? Aspects that should have been staples in such a storied land.
Ironically, back in the Golden State, our local Whole Foods flaunts an olive bar that is reminiscent of a mini Mediterranean festival. Yet, in Athens, supermarkets seemed to treat olives with casual indifference, limiting their variety and essence.
Having explored more than 80 establishments across mainland Greece and its islands, our enthusiasm began to wane. We found ourselves booking a hasty weekend retreat to the gastronomic haven of Antalya, Turkey. And what a relief that was! Turkey, with its rich culinary canvas, proved to be a stark contrast. The food was not just food - it was art, it was a story, it was, dare we say, seductive
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, Turk spotted.
Food "expert"
We laugh at people like these in rural Greece.
