A driver hit me during a bike ride. I’m lucky to be alive. See Me AZ.

In 2023 we interviewed Steve Elwell, an avid cyclist who was struck by a driver while on a morning ride with a friend. The driver fled the scene but was later identified. They claimed they thought they had hit a tree branch.
Steve sustained serious injuries in his crash and was still recovering at the time of our interview. If he hadn’t been wearing a helmet, he may have been worse off, if he even survived. Steve points out how there are so many people like him who have been hit, and that he considers himself lucky to be alive. Everyone needs to be more aware and more careful - not just the bike rider, not just the driver. All of us have a role in creating a community where people are not killed or injured while traveling, regardless of mode used.
