The 0080,designs are some of my absolute favorites! The Hygogg especially. Its design comes off better than some of the other kits in this line which all seem just a little squat. But that works for the Hygogg. Seeing your review brought up fond memories of building this kit. But it hurt my heart to hear you talk about its faults. Because you are 100% right. The seams are pretty atrocious. 😅 Back when I built it, I overlooked those flaws because I was just so jazzed to have the kit. Keep these classic reviews coming! Thank you!!
That box art is so amazing, it makes it even sadder that the kit is such a project to get painted. At least the HGUC version of it exists, but damn would it be nice to have a slight update of this with better seam placements.
Nice! Another 0080 kit. I actually picked up the Rick Dom II kit because of your review, and it really is a nice kit -- I also have a Z'Gok E and the Zaku FZ (Kai) from this line coming in pretty soon!
Fantastic box art! So it seems this was one of Bandai's earlier press fits? Last year I built a MS-15 Gyan that was a glue together kit. The molds were supposedly from 1981 and there was quite a bit of clean-up & gap filling. Still turned out fairly decent for a guys that is all thumbs like me!
Yep that boxart is amazing. Last year one of the hobby japan issues featured an amazing diorama build of this scene. If anyone is interested I could take a look what issue it was, I dont remember off the top of my head. Too bad about the seamlines because the proportions of this kit are on point.
Just built the HG again. It was one of the first UC kits I built nearly 20 years ago. The HG has pretty bad seamlines on the shoulder binders too but thankfully not terrible. Still takes work though
I have it. I bought it something like.... over 25 years ago maybe. Great kit but I agree with you that here almost all the seam lines are located in the worst places possible, even for an old kit. On the bright side they are not very hard to remove but I can confirm to you that is may be tedious, even if you are used to old kits.
I was always interested in this kit due to the boxart, but, always passed on it because I assumed the seams would be horrid, and, sadly, they are. Well, at least in terms of history, we got a super sick boxart out of it, even if the HGUC kit is better by today's standards~
Really love the proportions on this kit compared to the HGUC. That box art really is fantastic
right? it's amazing!
I got this forever ago from a local shop for $10. His name is Henry.
lol 😂

Omg that makes me so happy! That Rick dom is truly impressive stuff! The z’gok e looks very good too! I don’t have that one yet

Ngl, the HyGogg in the box art looks kinda chibi and cute tbh

good to know! I havent built the HGUC yet.
super cool design. those hip pegs that connect to the legs look like i'd break them immediately lol
they have been pretty durable so far! they're quite thick.

yeah, tbh this is one of the worst vintage kits ive seen yet. not the norm for vintage kits at all.
That box art is frameable
100%
i'm subscribing this just to know what to buy next.
thanks!! :)
late 80s and 90s box arts really go hard
🥰🥰

yeah and unfortunately it's not crazy different in sculpt from the modern HG like some of the other NG kits are.
The hygogg never gets enough love. Hope bandai does make a 1/100 version.
oh that would be awesome!!
That's my No. 1 wishlist kit: MG Hygogg
