Nice to see some love for old kits (I'm from 1978 and my experience in building gunplas is mostly with these pre-hg kits, so from my perspective even the oldest HG from early 2000s are perceived as "new" XD). Like many kits from the late 80s, the 0080 line was pretty advanced for the time and a very good base for customs and improvements. About the artwork on the box, I think that modern gunplas sorely lacks that kind of artworks: the old artworks other than the beautiful execution also tell a story or part of it which sparks the imagination.
I totally agree with you about the box art. I really miss the spark of imagination of having the box art be more of an abstraction or vignette about the kit, rather than just a literal representation.
This was my first Gunpla kit way back in the day, and I still have it! And yes, the box art slaps. I recently built this kit a second time, and like you say, it's actually quite advanced for a non-grade kit. Definitely recommend.
Insta sub. While I don’t collect vintage kits (I like to play with my kits), I am fascinated by what Bandai managed to achieve in the late 80s and very early 90s. Like, I saw Kakarot’s reviews of the original High Grade kits, and I was like, “They did *what?!* When?!” I was also really impressed at how well the NG GM Commands held up next to their HGUC counterparts. I can see the Rick Dom II is quite similar in that regard. The red color-separated segments are certainly something that would’ve been dropped in the mid 90s and early 00s. Besides the black on the visor, the only thing this kit really lacks is the clear plastic shield in front of the monoeye, but given this thing actually gives a clear piece for the monoeye itself, that can slide.
I was born in 2000, it will be very easy to find a good kit and I can't even call it vintage!! haha very nice kit too! i love all Rick Doms or any big leg MS
Birth year build off is a great idea! id love to take part but i recently just moved country and all kit is back home. Looking forawrd to seeing what people make!
Not to take anything away from your work. Do you think you could throw in one or two other model kits, for comparisons sake? Just a thought 😀 Thank you for showing these kits some love!
UA-cam shoved you into my algorithm and I'm glad it did, seeing older kits given some love and attention is nice.
Yay! Happy to have you here :)
My favorite part about war in the pocket is all the cool Ms designs that appear for a minute at most
Absolutely true lol. I want a whole series where see a ton of the Kampfer
That's impressive for it's age! I can't stand building them but I adore their history
The history is definitely its own kind of fun!
What a beautiful kit, the box art is fantastic too. I'd love to get that kit at some point, the proportions on it are so nice
They are pretty affordable! Go for it!
One of the best vintage kits that I've ever seen, definitely holds up, considering it's age. Keep up with the great videos, Ellie 💪
Thank you!!! :)

Thanks for the sub!!!! I agree it was really impressive what Bandai pulled off in this era
this looks really good, a bit of black for behind the eyesensor and you are basically good to go.

2000 was a great year for gunpla! Still vintage in my book!
This looks great! It's a shame for the the shipping is so expensive because I wouldn't mind having one.

Thank you! Good luck with the move!
Now you need 2 more for the Tri ⭐ Team 😎
lol! True!
There are some things like certain shapes that look better than on the hg version of the kit. I think it’s the more round kinda look.
This looks great ngl

I will definitely do that if I have other versions of the same mobile suit!
Nice Dom. I have one in some corner somewhere. It's better some of the earlier HGUCs. The Bazooka seems very short, however.
It’s def better than some very early hguc’s!
You telling me that this kit has better color separation compared to the HGUC Rick Dom II?! How is that even possible?!
I've never built the HGUC version, so im not sure, but all I can say is this is a really really solid NG from the 80's.
I can't see Rick Dom and Rick Dias not not imagine that it's their names.
lol I always thought rick Dias sounded like an 80’s pro wrestler 😂
Also do you plan on reviewing the new retro hg gundam?
Definitely!!!
I was born in 2003😮
well then you get to pick from some pretty nice kits for the build off!
This looks great ngl
It is great!
