It got good when the ver.ANIME line started. Proportions made to mimic the on screen counterpart in ways a Gunpla can't as well as coming with a ton of cool effect parts.
The Ver Anime RX-78 and GM are absolutely fantastic.
These line were also really good for either "play" or "display". Highly articulate (maybe not all of them), anime accurate, and tons of effect parts. Even Gunpla can't always reached that level.
It's too bad that I can't afford to buy them. Gunpla wins at the price category.
It was good before then too. The Wing, X, and G lines where all fantastic.
the ANIME line just went to the max with great engineering and accessories
The engineering also went up a level with the ANIME line. Never imagined a Zaku to bend that much at the waist 😂
@@narutoman876 They're still good. It just happened that Mecha's Aries had a pretty odd issue in regards to the materials used for plastic and paint (eventhough I'm not quite sure what really happened, either the degrading paint or something else).
I'm hoping Bandai do an RE/100 Hy-Gogg at some point, it's one of my favourite grunt suits ever.
Avenger_00209 Judging from the past records of RE line, it would not be as good as the damashii one in terms of posability. Moreover, 1/100 will certainly have weight issues.
But is it truely a grunt suit? 1st episode of war in tge pocket gave me the special forces vibe
@@DJ_GrimDark I'd say so, even specialised/high performance suits are grunts sometimes - take the Jesta, for example.
@@samuelandjw I think with Bandai's modern engineering they could work around any weight issues, as well as giving it good pose-ability.

Bandai seems to be putting a lot of effort into Robot Damashii. Must be catering to the new generation that have no patience for building Gunpla.
The HGUC Hygog is actually very solid kit at $15USD. Still a good deal today. The gunpla arms can be posed without drooping.
This RD figure has superior articulation, effect parts, more color separation. They seems to be doing every suit for 0080 for the RD line.
Also.. The P Bandai RD Zeong Ver ANIME is an absolute Beast.

@@mr.cranker8086 Yup in the age of mobile apps and ADD... model kits are more of a hobby for old timers. From my experience at several local hobby shops in my region the gunpla kits are mostly sold to ages 20+ (95%). Action figures are popular among ages 10 to 15.. and usually purchased by adults.
Spicy Build Compared to 0079 ver ANIME, 0080 lines are not as good. Although hy-gogg is a clear exception.

I don’t really think that the “new generation” has no patience. The main reason robot damashi has gotten better is simply because the methods used to produce and the money invested has increased. Also with anime making a larger mark the world wide market the amount of people interested in the gundam franchise has increased. This leads to more people in the fandom some of which would not enjoy building gunpla simply because that is not something they are interested in,
I hope that the modelkit team in Bandai takes this as serious competition and starts re-releasing 2.0's of the 0080 and 0083 kits.

That's odd about your previous experience with RD. I have some that are from 2010, - zero discoloring, perfect QC and better proportions than their Gunpla counterparts.
mitch mitchell Discolouration all depends on the colour of the parts but more importantly how you store it e.g. away from direct sunlight.

For gunpla, yeah sure old RDs don't do justice, except Duel Gundam Assaultshroud.
But for other Mechs, RDs are the best

Nice to see some Robot Damashii for a change. Bandai has definitely improved them in the last few years. I buy some every once in a while, hope to see more of this!

Robot Damashii has been smashing it for a good while now... My last one was an exclusive RGM-79GS Space Command GM-also badass!
I got myself the Strelitzia last month and was really surprised by the quality, it’s really good and Iam now currently away in spain and I happend to come across the A.N.I.M.E RX-78 so I had to pick it up. And im glad i did!! it did not disappoint me!
Believe it or not, the arms of the HGUC Hy-Gogg are pretty solid. I've had mine for about a year and have posed and re-posed it numerous times, but the arms still can hold themselves up.
Bought this for my 4 year old, needless to say he lost a few fingers for it, but its an AWESOME toy (for ~9 or older probably, though sites say 15...). Simply so fun to play with all the effects!
ABS plastic can become discolored over time if exposed to UV light. It happens because ABS plastic is flammable, and they have to mix a flame retardant in with it. This is why some people's SNES is all yellow, and gross looking rather than the grayish color that it was originally. Gunpla doesn't discolor because it's outside isn't made of ABS plastic. The reason ABS plastic is used is because it's a strong plastic. If you block out the natural light in your display room, and use LED lights then you shouldn't have any issues with discoloration.
That’s some super useful info! Never actually knew a SNES was made from ABS, but I know the exact gross colour you’re taking about.

I remember when I was just a little kid in the early 2000s when Gundam aired on toonami and they sold 1/144 scale NoGrade models at Target stores. The Gundam Alex and the Hygogg were two of the first Gunpla I ever built. Even now those suits hold a special nostalgic place in my mind.
I just got the Alex robot damashii. Its awesome. The weapon effect parts are what sold me

The Robot Spirits Freedom, Justice, and Tallgeese are all awesome figures too, some of my favourites!
Bandai really needs to release more multi-purpose effect parts for Gundam model kits, something like the ninpulse beam effects... those things could give some much needed life for those who build stuff out of the box...

This is coming from nowhere but I noticed that all the gundams galeo from gundam ibo pilots have a gimmick in the legs:Kamaris has leg thrusters,trooper well...has the trooper form,vidar are has the foot blades/hunters edge,then finally the Kimaras vidar has the extending nee drill or pile
I appreciate you covering stuff like this to you are doing a great job keep up the good work and never give up would like to see some armored Core stuff and some Pat labor stuff maybe at least I would appreciate it

There is actually a little sliding gimmick in the little fins on the legs.
I believe since robo damashii rx-78 gundam ver anime. Because lots of effect and nice articulation.
Btw, my old gunplas also discolor (specially white plastic turn to yellowish).

You are late to the game, the Ver Anime line is amazing. RD has been amazing for awhile now. Also I’ve never had issues with discoloration, but I keep my figures out of sunlight.

I love the ANIME line of Damashii's a lot, but 0080 really hit it out of the park. Especially because the HG's are, for the most part, pretty old. Really excited for the other GM's and the Guncannon. Even if there's a high chance that many will be P-Bandai. Oh well, at least the Sniper and Cold District were regular release.

A Gawain Kit would be nice to have.. But alas, we got just a few. They made the Lancelot and Guren Mk-II but why not the Gawain, Gloucester or Gekka ;-;

I'm pretty sure that the Robot Damashii GM Cold Climate is already out. I think the one that's coming out in January is the GM Sniper II ver ANIME, which is the second (and vastly improved) GM Sniper II Robot Damashii figure.
This would be a good way to gauge what a Master Grade Hygogg can potentially have for articulation, but alas its gonna be a re 100 if they ever make a 1/100 hygogg

i really want to know what should i buy, cuz i have built 2 SDs and 3 HGs , but im not sure if i should go up by a grade and buy an RG or go to an MG instead. so yeah im a bit puzzled rite now.
Robot Spirits became good when they reached they're 150th release
(Tho there were some good releases before that like their L-Gaim figures, Heroman, Gundam Double X and others)

Would you consider doing retro gunpla reviews as some fun side project? Notably of HG Deathscythe Hell Ew and HG Altron EW, and the like? I think it'll be pretty funny, but more than that show how far gunpla has improved.

On the subject of effect parts, looking on Amazon, it's somewhat hard to find actual effect parts dedicated to Gunpla. Most of them are Tamashii Effects, which really go well with the S.H. Figuarts line, so if you want your Kamen Rider/Power Ranger/Pretty Cure/Superman/Mario/whatever looking awesome in a pose, you go with that. But, all of those are pretty much power up effects.
Now, the Dragon Ball Z Figure-Rise plamos have dedicated energy blasts, so you can pretend a Kamehameha is a blue mega particle shot or something.
I recommend the Alex figure I have it and its great

I recently got the robot spirit devilfish and a ice broke off because was and an idiot and wasn’t sure if it was a snap on part and super glued right on you don’t even notice it

I already got HGUC Hygoog and the arm joint is still solid. But the big problem with and a let down is only the mono eye can't move.

dude... if you want a good robot spirits thats not Ver. A.N.I.M.E, then you should get the crossbone gundam X-1 full cloth. Thats my #1 favorite robot damashii.

I would say they have been good since Pacific Rim Uprising. I have Gypsy Avenger and Titan Redeemer and I would call the good figures. Maybe a little pricey since they don't have many accessories but they have good articulation and lots of paint.
The giant potato, the Gogg mastergrade, is the only kit I've seen with long segmented arms that weren't floppy.
It also looks like a potato.
I love Robot Spirits. I sell these things, and have never heard anyone claim they discolored. Or seen it myself. But maybe you had a bad experience.
I'm guessing you displayed your Aries where it is exposed in sunlight, sunlight can cause discoloration on plastic, especially white parts
I'd recommend checking out the Metal Robot Damashii line.
He did review the Metal RD Double O. But I do wish the Infinite Justice could feature one day, it's so damn good.

Nice but I know what you mean I have some no grade and some high grades I bought from the early 2000s that still have their beautiful colors to them.
Wish you could do more ver A.N.I.M.E. Robot damashii so we can see what to expect before we buy any. Also have you checked out the HCM Pro Exia DX? Or any thoughts on it?
