Nobody even comes close to the sheer coolness of the bands back then. They had so much natural swagger which just added to the phenomenal music they made.
Chris and Rich writing together, have written some of the most amazing lyrics and some beautiful guitar riffs that you could ever imagine. I mean "the hair is from a little boy. The cross from someone she has not met...... well not yet"? That's just genius songwriting right there And girl from a pawnshop has some incredible lines there, and the guitar running through the verse is terrific. "With pawnshop eyes, and a second-hand frown, she sat silent at the table". Amazing. And still writing some great lyrics these days, to be honest. Like shady grove, or good morning captain, appaloosa and stuff from warpaint like goodbye daughters of the revolution. Writing alone, with their side projects, they write some ok stuff. I really like someday past the sunset that Chris had on one of his solo albums, or that Chris Robinson Brotherhood band or whatever it was called. But writing together, these guys just hit the nail on the head every single time.
Such a sad Song about someone very close to death that she's talking to Angels. Something we will all face one day and when you hear them calling your name...My mom experienced something very close to this but it was Jesus she heard and she died shortly after. Worst day of my life because she was truly my best friend. I miss her more and more as time goes by so it doesn't get easier. You want to talk but you can't. How could that get easier? You just deal with it knowing you will meet again. What a great day that will be.
Caleb Smith, lifting you up in prayer. I feel your words so deeply. Cling to Jesus sweetie. We will see our loved ones soon. Jesus, and your momma are with you always. Big, big hugz. Love in Christ, praying peace and love over you. 💗
Same thing happened to my grandfather. He asked my dad if he saw the people in the room with them, but it was only them according to my dad. He died soon after. I love you and anyone who has to experience a loss of family or friend.
To play tune your guitar to Open D and put a capo on the Second fret. that main riff is basically just strumming open strings with an E major chord thrown in
@@fullhog Rich may be tuned to open D with the capo in the 2nd fret in this performance but the other guitarists are in open E. I saw them play this on Howard Stern recently and Rich was tuned to open E, no capo.
She Talks to Angels The Black Crowes She never mentions the word addiction In certain company. Yes, she'll tell you she's an orphan After you meet her family. She paints her eyes as black as night now. Pulls those shades down tight. Yeah, she gives me a smile when the pain comes. The pain gonna make everything alright. Says she talks to angels. They call her out by her name. Oh yeah, she talks to angels. Says they call her out by her name. She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket. She wears a cross around her neck. Yes the hair is from a little boy, And the cross from someone she has not met, well, not yet Says she talks to angels. Says they all know her name. Oh yeah, she talks to angels. Says they call her out by her name. She don't know no lover, None that I ever seen. Yeah, to her that ain't nothing But to me it means, means everything. She paints her eyes as black as night now. Pulls those shades down tight. Oh yeah there's a smile when the pain comes. Pain's gonna make everything alright, alright yeah Says she talks to angels. Says they call her out by her name. Oh yeah, angels Call her out by her name Oh angel, They call her out by her name Oh she talks to angels, They call her out, yeah yeah Call her out, Don't you know that they call her out by her name
Damn 20 years, I'm my parents age when I thought they were old. This MTV performance was the first time I heard it! Soulful is the best way to describe it.
Anyone else prefer this version? The sooooul in his voice is irresistible!

They tell a story of addiction like no one else. Not even close. He puts soul in this big time and love the guitar. Rock on!

The guitar is turned to open E my friend!
@@fullhog This is played in Open E but he has a capo on the 2nd fret. You can see it at the 2:36 mark.
@@jaymz2772 I stand corrected! I learned it in the open E minus the capo! Same only different 😂😂

The lyrics weren't fully right. Especially towards the end
