This is the perfect UA-cam video. You packed so much into ten minutes. You really bring out the right parts of the "soft skills" of photography. Thank you so much!
Kidding aside, you finally found a way to get me to consider becoming an Insider. The 85 is fantastic but I have no idea how you're getting such crispy images with only medium natural lighting.
Excellent teaching video. Shows how to work with people who are not models. The skill is being two jumps ahead so that the session is smooth and appears effortless. If you have a second could you comment on why you haven't used flash. The obvious answer is that the photos look great already! Thank you
I don't know if anybody's ever said this to you, but you're getting pretty good at this photography stuff! 😉😁Seriously though, your videos always teach me something and that's something I can't put a price on!
WHAT is with Dudes Not Wearing Socks? Not a fan of this trend..... What a Great Walk through, Wonderful demonstration of conversation to keep it natural and relaxed. I love how you lift up the client and give them confidence through the shoot with the head tilt section. Props on the Lexar, I use their ProLine and have NEVER had issues with them. They always work!
If you are in formal wear, men should wear socks. Casual slacks and button down on the street or boardwalk then no socks with loafers. Maybe he forgot them. Lol
This is such great example on how to lead and take charge.. Vanessa, is there a place to learn how to pose people or is it just your experience.. if there's books or videos to further learn this skill can you advise where.. thx.
I look forward to your video when canon releases the RF version of the 35 mm L glass. (You mentioned in a previous video of wanting it so you wouldn’t have to adapt the EF version.)
Hi Vanessa, quick question, subject left eye is smaller than his right, how do you feel about turning him the other way so his eyes are more same size. I've had success with that, makes the client look more even, and psychologically better looking.
Quick question. I noticed you opened the images in Photomechanics first and then uploaded them to Imagen for editing. How were you able to download the photos and open them in Lightroom?
@@VanessaJoy Got it!! Thank you!! I love your videos and when I saw the one about quitting UA-cam I got sad :( But I'm so glad you are still providing us with so much wisdom!
On my R6 I have the impression the eye tracking doesn't work as well as when I focus manually. It's often a few millimeters 'off' even when the person doesn't move.
@@VanessaJoy I meant the eye tracking doesn't work that well on people and animals in AF. When I focus myself, on the eyes with AF , it's more accurate, even for non- moving subjects.
I love the fact that you brought the 35mm F1.8. Even though I also own the 28-70 or a 85mm F1.2 (EF though), I recently started using it again and kinda fascinated by it's "bang for the buck" versatility. Sharpness, Bokeh, macro... It can do a lot. Very good video btw. Was interesting to get a glimpse into this kind of shoot.
Did you say "cheesy smile one more time"? LOL But it worked! I struggle getting authentic-looking smiles from my colleagues on campus here. Gonna try this.

Wow, thank you!
another master class from the queen of photography, thank you Vanessa
So glad it’s helpful!
Great work, V! You gave him a ton of variety in a short time.
Means a lot coming from you!!!
Thank you ❤
You're welcome 😊

Haha nice! This full session gets released June 1, and there’s TONS on there for now ☺️
Amazing insight, as usual. Thank you for sharing Vanessa.
My pleasure
This was dope seeing a behind the scenes on how you work and control the shoot. Appreciate the knowledge!
Glad it was helpful!
Well done. Great interaction with your client! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Great video! more of these please!
Thanks! Will do!

Haha that’s exactly it. I didn’t need flash. Natural light was perfect
This was a great video, and super helpful seeing your process and workflow. Also, awesome images!
Glad it was helpful!
That was awesome, thank you for sharing this video 📸
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love this. Thanks, Vanessa!
My pleasure 😇
Hi Vanessa! Thanks for sharing! What did you use to do your BTS video?
A GoPro black and Insta360 go
fabulous. way more insightful than just a corporate headshot
Yay!

Haha wearing socks with loafers is a no no! Maybe no shows are ok though. Glad you liked it!
It's an East Coast thing, especially Philly.
@@RH-cv1rg I don't think so... seeing it a lot more in SoCal... not a fan. Reminds me of dudes in the 80's & 90's wearing crop tops... NOPE!
If you are in formal wear, men should wear socks. Casual slacks and button down on the street or boardwalk then no socks with loafers. Maybe he forgot them. Lol
I think they were going for casual chic.

Glad you like! I have tons of videos like this at thephotoinsiders.com ☺️

yeah that would be nice if they come out with that! Though I can't be mad at the quality of this one
Great video!
Thanks!
Great video Vanessa. Do you deliver the images in a 2:3 ratio or something else (incase he wants an 8x10 etc)? I love that 85mm lens.
Isn’t it such a great lens? I deliver it in the original aspect ratio.
@@VanessaJoy Thanks so much 👍
Great shoot! What room is that at the Four Seasons?
Their residences library

I do it sometimes but I don’t dictate a whole session based on that nuance
@@VanessaJoy thanks!
Quick question. I noticed you opened the images in Photomechanics first and then uploaded them to Imagen for editing. How were you able to download the photos and open them in Lightroom?
I cull in photo mechanic and then I import just my selects into Lightroom before sending them to Imagen ☺️

I can’t afford the r series. Can I get a similar look w the 5D mark 4
Definitely, especially with the EF 85mm 1.4
On my R6 I have the impression the eye tracking doesn't work as well as when I focus manually. It's often a few millimeters 'off' even when the person doesn't move.
Well the eye tracking won’t work in manual focus… or did you mean something else?
@@VanessaJoy I meant the eye tracking doesn't work that well on people and animals in AF. When I focus myself, on the eyes with AF , it's more accurate, even for non- moving subjects.
Great work, I would relabel this portraits not headshots. Headshots is shoulders up.
Good call!
I label my work like this as Executive Portraits...lol.
I was a little bit surprised with the scruff for an executive. Especially for the headshots. What do others think?
I think it's fairly normal IMO
That's not nearly as big a deal now.
great shoots. No need your 160cm umbrella here, due to big windows ?
Yup. Natural light was perfect

It really is a great lens! Glad you liked the bts ☺️
0:35 Was that the question?
Yes, and the questions after that all understanding his position and vibe which tell us how to pose him appropriately
Adds to resume': Model for Vanessa Joy Photography.
Would love that!
Imagen AI or Evoto?
Both. They do different things
Did you say "cheesy smile one more time"? LOL But it worked! I struggle getting authentic-looking smiles from my colleagues on campus here. Gonna try this.
Haha yeah - gotta make it a little corny sometimes!
