Hey great video! I was just wondering what brand/colour the seamless background is.
Great to spend the day with you, dude!
Next time we can put a karaoke interlude in
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto sold.
Love your story Gary. Very similar to mine. Efficiency is key with my headshots and all also. Will def go checkout your work.
I love directness and honesty. No sugar coating of the industry.
Honestly the shots are just beautiful ! More of this Taylor. Thank you Gary for being an amazing photographer !
More to come for sure! Thanks for watching.
I love Gary's humility. Thanks for featuring him.
Loved it. You know someone is really good at what they do when they appear to move slowly and methodically but get get things done quickly. Also, finally found someone who shares my cable management obsession!
I really enjoyed this, thanks Taylor and Gary. I am a one man band photographer since 2005 on a tiny island and a lot has evolved in that time. I am in many domains but the corporate world is definitely my main game, and its vast. Sadly my clients still prefer me to set up on site so I am always juggling what I can carry on site and what I can do with a space I cant control. I also always need more than just a head shot, so mid length, environment, full length on white, its all got to be possible... commercial, documentary, portrait, event. I love how easy it seems when people come to your controlled space but you do make it look easy and that comes from long term experience. Making people super comfy in minutes is a rare gift I am also glad to have. It cant be taught. Well done Gary, you are great and efficient indeed... and living the dream of cable management.
An additional comment, on the fact that you, Taylor, are a self confessed introvert, and as I have discovered, quite often we photographers are introverts and we dont always get past it, but I had to force myself to seem at ease and fun (and therefore I became so) to put others at ease. Its key. Your calm manner and sharp dry humour disarms people and its your secret weapon. Well done for all you have achieved. Hats off... If only I had a hat... Anyway, the more we talk the easier it gets. You can tell Gary talks a lot, either to teach or to direct. He's great.
Love how simple and clear his directions were! Great day in a life! :)
That bit about cable management hits me right in the soul
This is a great BTS update on Gary. I follow all his techniques and tips. His photography work is fab.
Fascinating behind-the-scenes!
incredible video -- and I completely agree with the comment "making clients feel comfortable". I have no idea how I do it, but that's the consistent feedback that I hear which results in great photos. Keep up the great work!!!!
Those shots look amazing!
Awesome Video Taylor! Gary Thanks for sharing a day in your life!! ✌🏻🙌🏻🙂
It's a nice one and your approach is inspiring!
Those headshots turned out awesome, no wonder hes so busy.
That's very kind, thank you!
Very well done. Clear, competent, complete.
This was great to watch and see his process. Thanks for sharing!!!
Came for the portrait headshot walkthrough (which was AWESOME!) and ended up getting a cable management tutorial as a bonus... now that's one AMAZING video :D
Hahah Gary will love this
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto he does!
These are always fascinating to watch.
Love Gary’s work, watched a couple of his creative live stuff a few years ago.
I am enjoying the day-in-the-life series Taylor. Can’t wait to see who is next!
Great video, Gary seems like a fun guy to work with!
Only in short bursts! I can give nay person the best 30 minutes but then I have to nap.
That was awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Love this video and Gary, we can feel how deeply you love photography and ...people:-)
Awesome thanks for doing this 🙏
So cool to see that other headshot togs that shoot with Canon use the Canon Camera Connect to review and rate the photos on site.
Thanks for this ... Gary is the boss!
Works like a champ!
This guy is brilliant. Great video.
Gary is so impressive in so many ways, superb content Taylor thanks man 🙌🏼
Thanks for saying so, but really you should see me try a french braid on one of my kids. Total disaster.
Love the Day in the Life series!!
That may be the best setup I’ve ever seen 👌🏿. I’m copying that.
loving the content so much keep posting
What an amazing video. Such a genuine nice person
I love this video! Great interview with awesome Headshot tips Thank you 🙏🏾
I wouldnt mind tagging along for a day of photo shoots and snacks.
WHY have I never thought to just slide the 1.35m coloramas onto a c-stand with a bar?! This changes everything for my headshots set up! haha so much simpler/quicker!
Neat little video! Thank you 🙏🏾
So glad I found this video... very inspiring!
This is simply a very good video. Thank you.
Very informative and entertaining video. I grew up right down the road in Sanford.
Love this video! Gary gave a lot useful insights
Thanks for watching
I'm very grateful and blessed that you made this video.
Since filming this Gary has actually renamed his studio Grateful and Blessed Studios Inc
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto then you are legally required to change your channel name to "All I need is Coffee and Jesus"
very informative ! its the cable management for me tho!
Dude, that's a sweet *cable speedway* for those BenQ monitors! . . . Nice headshots too.
Thank you for this. I'm very interested in starting doing headshots. I was surprised and happy to see a local photographer too
This was just great! Thx!
My headshot photo idol. Great video and content.
Well, thanks, Miguel :)
Great guy, fun to watch.
Wow wonder learned alot!
I resonate with so many things this dude says!
Very good video!
Not only a great photographer, but a consummate instructor. Great video.
Also great at karaoke
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto you got that right!
Nice video Taylor! Many greetings from Brazil
Hi Taylor...I've been learning photography for about a year with an R5 and loving it!!! Thanks for the detailed video presentation. How far were you zoomed in for the client shoot? Thanks, Stephen
i agree about the cable management lol
Looking good, TJ!
Great to see this video of Gary. I consider Gary a great Friend and Mentor and we've only met like 3 times. He's just a Good Human! I feel like a saw more of Gary working that I've ever seen of Gary in this video. Thanks a bunch Taylor. I'm now a subscriber. I wish my Fuji cameras would do the wireless tether to the iPad. I really miss my Nikon D750. I could do this exact workflow. I just use a wired tether now with Capture One.
Hey Jim! Thanks for watching :) you will enjoy Taylor’s channel!
I love this. This is what I want.
Very good video, cool guy!
That mini corn dog looked delicious, no wonder it was the highlight!
Great interview Gary! Best wishes
You too, my friend!
Nice testimony.
Great video!
Awesome video
I like all the episodes this one might be my fave. And he has a nice Jeep.
Sadly, someone recently hit me at a stop light and totaled it :(
I need some of these pieces for my studio , where did you find the iPad stand & I’m looking for the U shape thing what’s the correct name for it ?
Nice video! What lights is Gary using in the 2 strip boxes?
Godox AD200s :)
Great vid, were you using the 100-500? Thanks in advance!
70-200 :)
Horizontal headshot or Vertical Headshot better?
Thanks for this Gary, very interesting. Can you tell me what you use to get the photos on to your ipad? It seems you have no tethering, I was wondering what software does this. Thanks.
at the time this was recorded I was using Canon Camera Connect, now I tether to the iPad with C1 for iPad :)
@@GaryHughesOfficial Thanks
How do you handle the situation where your customer wears eyeglasses, do you change your lighting setup to avoid reflection on the eyeglasses?
Glasses aren’t always a problem. Most of them these days are anti-glare. On the rare occasion that it’s an issue, I move the lights further away to change the angle :)
Whats the name of the app that you use on your iPad to let the people rate their pictures?
Canon Camera Connect.
How do you keep track of who’s who, when doing a bunch of headshots???
Question if you shoot a small company say 20 people do you send them a gallery to pick from or do you choose the best photo
Great question! We use Headshot Tools to handle everything to do with teams. It creates individual, private galleries and allows people to select their favorites. Game-changing! Full-disclosure, I am one of the founders of the software.
This one time, at Jerry & Melissa’s…
What color is that seamless? Very pretty!
It's Ultramarine from Savage :)
Anyone know the name of the attachment on the c stand on his main light?
Kupo extender arm
woot, this is where i am!
Does Gary know you’re in his studio?
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto he is using the grateful and blessed pillow...
Not at all my kind or approach to photography but plenty of interesting and useful content. Thanks for sharing.
Gary, why not get wheels on the bottom of the light stands and make your life so much easier? Love your educational videos, and am a huge fan!
Because I’d end up playing roller derby with all my lights all day :)
hahahahahahaha I agreed 100% with the cable management thing
Right!?
Ive been wondering why headshot photographers use such long lenses. Honest question. Ive only got a 50mm, but i wonder why some use zoom lenses.
Lens compression helps give more realistic proportions and creates a different subject background relationship :)
Where you located ❤
How did he have the photos on his ipad right away?
At the time I was using the Canon App, now I use Capture 1 for iPad
Curious to know how big your studio is…. sf??
Just over 700sf :)
How many Lenses you use?
Me or Taylor? I use mostly the 70-200 2.8 for headshots
Why is Gary wearing a long sleeved shirt in Florida?
this was filmed in March :) Only 90 degrees, practically frigid
"I'm the dentist of the photography world" 😆😆😆
It’s one of my favourite things I’ve heard in years haha
Love this kind of content man, btw what lens is he using?
Canon RF 70-200 IS 2.8
@@GaryHughesOfficial wow thanks man, I love your work man
@@RaymondPros you're very kind, thank you.
Can he give us a studio tour 🤓
Hah I should have done a second gear specific video. Next time!
First from Indonesia
Hello
What computer is he using? Mac mini?
M1 Mac Mini for now. Great machine, even edits R5 video like a boss.
@@GaryHughesOfficial What specs. I think you will have me sold on it.
@@errole completely maxed out (cost about $1400 US). Fair warning, if you process large amounts of photos like weddings, sports, or wildlife, you may seriously want to consider the Mac Studio. The extra space for memory and the processing power will save you so much time in the long run. Hours and hours of your life.
During the cable management - Gary could have been a double for Tom Cruise…
Any advice to increase our clients during this recession and inflation?
Client retention is more important that acquisition. Concentrate on re-engaging existing clients and shore up your defenses that way. Costs less money and effort to keep the clients you have already gotten. Create new product lines and easier ways to work with you. Custom scheduling, video offerings, online appointments, headshot mini sessions, lots of creative ways to get your clients involved.
Oh and one more thing. Setting yourself up for onboarding/new hire headshots is a great way to keep cash flow going. It's a small buy in for the corporate clients but the money really adds up for you.
@@GaryHughesOfficial I offer these already. My lowest package I've lost out on because many fell it's still too $$$, when actually the value I place on it is worth way more. Tethered shooting, choosing the favorite image right there, etc. I'm using Dubsado so that in the pricing, they choose the date/time, package that best suits their needs, it creates a contract and then the next step is to pay. I can't make it any easier LOL
@@GaryHughesOfficial yup my onboarding process is set up just for this, but I'll take a more in depth look to see what can be tweaked. Thank you!
@@deirdreryan7402 totally get it. One of the things we do to stay busy with existing clients is customer service calls every three months. "Hi this is Al with Hughes Fioretti, just wanted to check in with you and see how everything is going. Have you been able to put all the images to good use? Do you need any additional crops, sizes?" It's incredible how many calls like that turn in to more work and it's just good customer service. A couple of other things: we have increased our Google Ad buy by 50% for new acquisitions and become more active in events and volunteering for our local Chamber. At the last event while volunteering as the event photographer, I made 6 new contacts and booked a $3k website/branding job for a Real Estate firm.
Wow bro nice wife, my sold my camera and send me to drive a truck, thanks for sharing
Idk what kind of dream world is America but literally nobody asks for headshots anymore where I live, averyone with the damn phones
One day, the guy told your one click cost me $80 and I answered him no one click + 10 years cost you $80 👍🏼
Thanks bro
By the way, where you located
Gary's website was flagged by my antivirus software for trying to give me malware, lol.
I’ve been working on this issue for a couple of days now since it was first reported to me. What AV software do you use?
"You can just buy it".. Capture One recently announced they're moving towards a subscription model in the future, sadly. 😢
