That's sick. It makes the log that much more special by making it yourself.
It really does. Can’t wait to start my next timber frame project
Talk about a labor of love, so cool to watch the process! I wish I had more headroom in my basement gym for pressing anything thicker than a bar packed in nickle plates.
Thanks for watching. That is definitely a drawback to basement gyms.
@@TheKurtlocker The temperature control 365 in the North East and lack of bar maintenance needed are well worth the trade offs for us. But don't worry...not a 35lb plate to be found! Love the mix on your channel, thanks Kurtis!
Bwahahahaha. Thank god no 35s! I’d have to ban you.
Nice job on the log! I understand the time. It is taking me a month to prime and paint my gym. Ceiling, walls and trim get painted. I paint the trim this weekend, which will finish the painting. Then I clean the floor and finally unbox and assemble the equipment.
I have a full time job with an hour drive each way and 7.3 acres to maintain. It makes projects go slower than I like. Of course in my defense, we took a week vacation after I primed the drywall and trim.
Well it’s important to take some time for yourself fit sure. It’ll all be worth it in the end. Sometimes instant gratification is cheap
That is an awesome log.
Thank you! Worth every ounce of effort
Nice craftsmanship. Well done, thanks for sharing the process.
Thank you for watching!
This is excellent work man!! You sound like me never a dull moment
You’re seriously incredible!! I wish I could do a fraction of what you can do! Awesome stuff man
Thank you for the compliment and thank you for watching.
It turned out super cool. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
very cool!! Came out great
Thank you!
Amazing! Just found your channel last week, burning through the back catalog. Cool to hear you’re in OH.
Thanks for watching! It’s nice to be back!
AWESOME !!!!!!!!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautifull. Thank you so much
Thank you for watching!
Nice work, sir! Sweet log 🪵
Thank you.
My man did with a axe. Respect
A ton of work, but worth it in the end. Thank you for watching! Log #4 is on the chopping block now
Great project, It looks top class. I did a half ass job of one before.
I did a half ass job on my first one. This is my second and I transferred a lot of the lessons learned.
The dumbbell the best for you
I was thinking of making a dumbbell out of one of the log cutofffs
@@TheKurtlocker nice idea
@@TheKurtlocker and if i want a dumbbell ,i should choose which ?
Hey mate I am about to do the same as well. Like the DIY garage gym equipment, its what I do as well. Have subscribed
Thank you. I’m working on log 3 right now. Just have to install handles and weight pins, wrap in rope and finish
This is dope. Just cut a black walnut tree down and it's straight as an arrow. Should be perfect
That’ll be beautiful!!!
Awesome work man, i saw your vid and decided to make mine, i cut a big tree down and already removed the bask, its very heavy because of being so green still, did you dry your log or did it dry alone by being outside for some time?
Mine sat for a few months before I got after it. I don’t have the space to let it dry for longer.
Can you review the Titan fitness 9 barbell storage block.
I sure can. That’s an easy review for sure.
@@TheKurtlocker thank you! 😬
What size rope did you use? And what kind of u shaped nail did you use to keep the rope in place?
This is 1 1/4” rope and I bought fencing nails to keep em held down
Hell yea, banged out a shitty looking one in a day. Honestly get a hole hog and even a plug in chainsaw from habitat for humanity and its easy peasy.
This was a lot about just doing it for me but I’ll use a lot more power tools in logs to come
😮where can I get. The plans for this
I need to make some.
What kind of stain did you use on the log?
This was just a MinWax brand stain. I’m trying to recall the color but it escapes me at the moment. I’ll rummage through some cans and if I find it, post again here
May I ask what size wooden dowel did you use for the handle? I just picked up a log today from my local highway dept.
1.25” oak
Thank you!
I’m excited for you!!
Looks like you changed your construction method quite a bit with this log versus your last strong man log series. Why did you ditch the chainsaw this time? Did you like drilling the handles instead of cutting them? How did you make sure to line up your drill holes when inserting your dowel for a handle?
I changed a lot of processes after some mentoring from some amazing log makers out there including Richard Looney and Steve Slater. I basically measured about 20 times before drilling the handles to get them to line up and didn’t want to carve them from a stability standpoint. The dowel rod is significantly stronger.
@@TheKurtlocker Thanks a ton. A really old oak tree just fell at my house and I'm going to make a few logs from it, so your vids have been super helpful
What an awesome opportunity! Have fun!
Would you happen to have a PDF for some step by steps? I will pay for it my guy.
This is something I may consider in the future.
@@TheKurtlocker I just obtained a cedar log. Is this decent wood?
@based8223 I’m not an expert, but some light research leads me to believe that it could be an awesome choice
