Huge fan of FZ. Then I learned and heard Dweezil. He just keeps getting better. He should come to Cleveland so we can be blown away. ZAPPA PLAYS ZAPPA. God bless him great player and also keeping his dad's name alive. The best all around

Awesome! I saw Dweezil with his brother Ahmet on vocals at the Paradise in Boston in 1992. I believe he had Mike Keneally on guitar with him at that show and they were amazing together. They did a crazy medley of a bunch of pop songs in 3 minutes, the improv they did that night was pretty impressive. Such a gifted musician. Thanks David! 🎸🤘🏼

Thanks, David! I always appreciate learning Dweezil's approaches to music & guitar! My dad and I have seen Zappa Plays Zappa several times! His 2 guitar solos (at age 15) on the Frank Zappa album "Them or Us" ("Sharleena" and a solo trade off with Steve Vai on "Stevie's Spanking") were huge influences on me at the time, and still seem to be a big part of my subconscious musical psychology!

Dave, fantastic video. If you ever get a chance, and I think I can speak for a ton of your viewers, we'd love to see a "Brewster style" in depth breakdown of Dweezil & Moon's tune "Let's Talk About It." That was the song & video where many of us 80's MTV kids 1) Fell in love with guitar and 2) Crushed hard on the beautiful Moon Unit!! I can hear the song is in Drop-D tuning, and occasionally you will see others attempt the song...but something in others versions is just not right. I'm confident you could give it the justice it deserves. Thanks and happy 2024.

Chordplay of Warren Cuccurullo (Frank Zappa, Missing Persons, Duran Duran) would be much better.
What we really care about is riff play and solo play. Chord play is easy. How about riffs and solos from other real guitarists?
    Akira Takasaki (Loudness)
Atsushi Yokozeki (solo, The Bronx, Lance of Thrill)
    Hideaki Nakama (solo)
    Hiroya Fukuda (Anthem)
Hiroyas "Iron" Chino (Iron Attack!, Lightning)
    Isao Nakayama (Cerveteri)
    Katsu Ohta (Ark Storm)
    Kikyo Oikawa (Mardelas)
Kouta (Thousand Eyes, Dragon Eyes, ex-Thousand Leaves)
    Norifumi Shima (Concerto Moon)
    Satoshi Katada (solo)
Takayoshi Ohmura (solo, Marty Friedman, Baby Metal)
Toru Noya (Thosuand Eyes, Tears of Tragedy)
    Yuji "You" Adachi* (Dead End)
    Akihito Kinoshita (Saber Tiger)
    Akira Kajiyama (Precious, Goldbrick)
    Ejima Harushi (Polkadot Stingray)
    Gentaro Satomura (solo,Naked Machine)
Hideshi Ueki (Rachel Mother Goose, Agnes, KREENAKOORIE)
    Issei Ambo ()
    Kelly Simonz (solo)
Masahiko Kuroki (Wolf, Masahiko Kuroki Band)
    Myu (Imy)
    Niya (Unlucky Morpheus)
    Syu (Galneryus)
    Takeshi (uncrowned)
    Yousuke Miyake (Terra Rosa)
    Yoshitsugu Imai (Terra Rosa)
    Or even
    Miki "Sun-go" Igarashi (Show-Ya)
    Narumi (Destrose, Disqualia, solo)
    Saki (Destrose, Mary's Blood, Nemophila)
    Li-sa-X / KOIAI, ex-Li-sa-X Band
    Hazuki / Nemophila
    Midori Tatematsu / Lovebites
yuki / East of Eden, D_Drive
    Miyako Watanabe / Lovebites
Erika Van Halen / Whiskey Dust
    Mitsuru Madaseka / ex-Bridear
    Hanako / octaviagrace
    Misato "Misa" Ono / ex-Bridear
    Sakura Yoshida / Hagane
    Haruka "Hal-Ca" Noma / Asterism
    Omi / ex-ExistTrace
Tomoko "TOMO-ZO" Midorikawa / Doll$BoXX, Gacharic Spin Blood
    Ayumi / Bridear, ex-Astrovery
    Misaki / ex-Bridear
    Or even
    Ayano / (ex-G∀lmet)
    Ruki / (ex-G∀lmet)
    Shoka / Allinone
    Kaho / fleufleu
    Marin Miyazawa / ex-Lovendor
    Toki / Aldious
    Yoshi / Aldious
    Yui / ex-Cyntia
    Yui / ex-TELECiDE
    Kana / Letitout-lelia
    EITA / ex-Gacharic Spin
    Gina / BabBubble
    Rie aka Suzaku / solo
Riff and solo play would be worth it from Timo Tolkki (Stratovarius, Avalon, solo).

Whoa, thanks for the huge list here.
Honestly, the only person on that entire list I know is Akira Takasaki (Loudness) and I've featured him in a Chordplay and also a Three-For-All episode.
I'll check out the other hundred names you've added here when I have time.
      Thanks and Happy New Year!

@@LateNightLessons Most Americans have never discovered Japanese rock because of the near criminal nature of the music industry in the USA whose players have kept distribution and knowledge about rock music from elsewhere from American wallets.
Frankly, the musicianship is much better from technical playing to composition.
Most famous American and British rock is cringey, amateurish in comparison.
There is a reason why Marty Friedman fled to Japan.
In the 1990s, one Japanese guy created a video game and then sequels. From his work, a fan of Yngwie Malmsteen as well as a musician himself, other Japanese created what are known as circles who make
      Touhou doujin, or fan-based music.
Though considered independent, and sometimes amateur, these circles and their recordings are fantastic. Anyone who is into rock guitar can both enjoy and learn much from them.
Thousand Leaves, Crow's Claw, demitori, IOSYS, xi-on, Alstroemeria Records
It is all there, technical prowess, melodic hooks. Many Touhou guitarists possess similar levels of technical mastery and speed to Yngwie Malmsteen if not surpassing him.
If this link goes through, this should get you started:
      ua-cam.com/video/McfltPHkg3I/v-deo.html
And there is this giant playlist of works from a few circles:
      ua-cam.com/video/2RYsyCuN3n4/v-deo.html
And you should take the time to broaden your guitar life by checking every guitarist I listed.

WRONG! Dweezil is an incredible guitarist, musician and artist in his own right. Anyone having been raised amongst all the influential people he has would most certainly be inspired.
