I always have mixed feelings when a client loves the first version of the logo. I’m an overthinker. I always think “do they actually love it or are they afraid to speak up about changes?” In any case, my brain is thinking and thinking and thinking some more and then thinking about overthinking... Great video!
Thank you Laura! I used to be that way - I would second guess their decision thinking they were just wanting to move on and be done with me! After it happened a number of times and those logos are still use to this day, I realized there are just some clients that are that decisive. I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment!

Great video my friend, these videos are underrated, I really enjoyed watching you, and I totally agree with the questions. I have also the same questions in my logo design questionnaire but now I see I need to update them just a little bit! Keep up the great work Mike!
@@MikePickettDesignCo That's fantastic to here, I often feel there isn't enough of this information out there unlike the design side of things. That i have down packed. My next biggest trouble is trying to find these clients.
To attract a new client base. To introduce a new product line that doesn’t match their current brand. To rebrand while still keeping some aspects of their current branding. It could even just be something as simple as they just want a refresh as the current logo is 20 years old. Hope these help clarify.
Food for thought! Cool!!! P.s.- Despite being Portuguese, I cannot speak properly regarding Portuguese Swordfish, or even Codfish... But, if you want, we can chat a bit on FB... :D
Was recently designing a client-friend a logo for his medicinal products company.. This is the situation that occurred: His brand name was an extravagant take on a well know medical term, However while designing his logo i came up with a new more down to earth take on the logos spelling THAT ALSO worked well with a theme i got off him for inspiration, during the initial consultation on WhatsApp, where sketches and photos were also passed over.. LOL i instantly went into defensive profiteering mode!!!!! thinking that this new take on his logo name would indeed attract new clientele that would've strayed from his original extravagant spelling, that i even found a touch typical.. Truth is; being an under accomplished designer didn't help at this stage, if designing is linked to your dreams or even channels they'll use, be careful when your handing them over.. 🧰 🛠 ⚙️
How did it work out in the end? Did the client go with your suggestion or stay with their own name? Did you get the project completed? Thanks for sharing!
I wasn’t prepared to pass my idea on without some hard currency involved 😆 and while trying to build up rapport to ask for a minimum £400, he said the way he spelled it stays? But I was relieved 😅 unlike any possible ideal scenarios that you plan out as a wannabe graphic designer’ I was reluctant and never wanted to pass MY OWN instinct across without a defensive phase on commercial viability... Mainly based on my own commercial success 🧐
Personally, I never did. They hired me for the work, not the number of files included. Get yourself a copy of Logo Package Express so exporting is just a few clicks and you can provide value to your clients for the same price.
@@MikePickettDesignCo Also how do you transfer full copyright to the client? If I state this in a contract then does that transfer the copyright? How would I tell the client that they don't own the copyright until they pay the full price?
I would include this in your terms of service / contract. All it needs to state is that copyright is transferred upon final payment. Make sure you also include a clause that allows you usage on your website / marketing materials.

I have been looking for this answer for so long. Thank you so much for this video. It was so helpful.
Happy to hear it helped out! More like this to come on the business and client side of design.

You’re welcome Cedric!
What about pricing? What is the general consensus on logo prices? Or branding in general? Thanks Mike!
Pricing is such a tough one to cover - I'll do it in an upcoming video though! There's many factors to consider...
thankyou for sharing!

Are you able to elaborate a bit on the 11:00 for the final goal? What would be some examples?

Should I charge a customer extra for an AI or EPS file?

Not yet Claire, I'm actually in the middle of rewriting my questionnaire again!! Once it's done I'll post a link to it in my community tab.
