Thank you so much! This has been a problem every time I want to backup any of my ipods/iphones, and since itunes won't let you change where the backups go, this helped immensely. I've dealt with having less than 4gb free on my computer C drive for years lol
I spent hours trying to reduce my iPhone memory to do a computer backup on a C drive that was not big enough. I even explored options to repartition my hard disk to increase C drive memory, which proved to be costly. This solved the problem in a surprisingly easy manner. Simple yet specific instructions were extremely useful. You only need to invest 10 minutes of your time. I wish I had found this video sooner! Thank you!
@@Grassp.o If we will transfer the file to a new folder like as you showed in the video so can we open those files from there to have a look as if they are done or not ??
This is the best tutorial I've ever seen in my whole life of living. Even the description of the video contains explanations + time stamps.. Like how can this be so simple yet very detailed and informative and it's all done in under 10 minutes!! Thank you so much!!!
@@Grassp.o Hi, really impressive content, however there is one issue if you can create or let us know regarding how to sync the songs from windows 11 pc to iPhone, have tried multiple times but couldn't done it... Including how do we take iPhone backup on window pc? Thank you Ravi
Can we just uninstall iTunes and reinstall it on the other drive (assuming it’s an internal PC drive / not an external hard drive)? And then just copy and paste the backups?
Hey Grasspo. What about the backup recovery for the phone? Just click restore this back up on itunes and it takes it automatically from the new location?
Ameen: I followed your tutorial and here are the results. All this seems to do is COPY the backup file from the old location to the new location. It doesn't MOVE it. Check the properties on the BACKUP FOLDER, in the old location, not just the MobileSync folder. The BACKUP folder is loaded with files and folders. It appears that this command zeros out the MobileSync properties, leading you to believe it's empty, when in reality it's not. It also creates, unwanted, redundancy by copying the OLD backup location to the NEW backup location. I just finished backing up my iPhone, again, with iTunes. Both the old location BACKUP and the NEW location BACKUP have the same files and folders in them, while the MobileSync folder shows SIZE, SIZE ON DISK and CONTAINS as 0 bytes. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Also, how can I put things back the way they were? Thanks
Exactly, how do you reverse it, since I didn't pay attention to the original commands before changing them? I too still show contents in the "backup" folder, although MobileSync folder shows zero...
I had changed the backup location to an external hard disk. Unfortunately i have lost that hard disk & want to change the location back to my windows. Can you please help I tried following the same method again but this messaged popped on the powershell "cannot create a file when that file already exists" I would really appreciate if you can help me with this. Thank you
hi.. first of all thank you, i did everything what you said on the video, but it says "You do not have sufficient privilege to perform this operation." can you help me?
Followed exactly what's shown in the video. I am using windows 11 but now I have an iTunes Backup Location on 2 different places. One in the orginal directory and one in the newly created directory. They are linked because when I delete the content in the orginal directory also the file in the newly created directory is deleted. What'ss the problem and how can I solve this?
Thank you so so much for making this video It has helped me tremendously. I did not have even 1GB free space on my laptop until i did what you said. It works great. Be better if it backed up straight to the external devise though as I still have to delete every backup from the laptop. I am not sure if i did something wrong or if that is correct it backs up to laptop and also sends copy to external device then you delete the one on laptop to free space???
Hi! great tutorial. Now unfortunately my hard drive is broken, how do I return to restore the old location to the PC (cannot open the file of the external drive as it is broken). Wanted to do a brand new back up of the phone on the PC and will then buy then a new external drive. Help!
Informative stuff! Well now this means when I'll be backing up my phone thru iTunes it'll be directly backed up to E drive okay... And one of more query will I be able to restoe the iPhone from this same E drive location?
I keep going in circles. Can anyone help? Can you see whatever it is I am doing wrong? This is a copy and paste from my Shell AFTER I have attempted to create the junction. I get NO message saying that the junction has been created. Here's my Shell screen: PS C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup Old> cmd c mklink /J "C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\backup" "F: ew itunes backup" Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.19045.3803] (c) Microsoft Corporation. I agree with the positive feedback provided earlier. However, it seems that the current procedure is directing both current and future backups to the E or external drive. To free up more disk space, it might be more effective to also move the old backup files to the E or external drive and configure future backups to be saved there as well. From what I observed towards the end, it appeared that old backup files on the C drive were being cut and pasted into a backup folder on the same drive, rather than being transferred to the external drive. If I’m mistaken, please correct me.
but this method -just copies/ duplicates everything to new location. i want go only to New lication and dont fill up Old location because its very low memory! (old has 15 Gb free. new has 1Tb free) my phone is 256Gb.
Thanks for the insightful information. But, I need your help. After watching your video I created a juncture and successfully backed up my iPhone. However, I had to delete my "New iPhone Backup Location" from my Hard Drive for some reason. Now, I cannot create a juncture again in the same drive. So, can please help me to delete that old juncture with the help of coding so that I can create a new juncture. Thank you in advance.
SIMPLY PRECIOUS! Thank you! Just another 2 questions: 1) Once we did this setting is made, all the future iPhone's backpas will be automatichally saved on the external drive? 2) how do I restore all content on iPhone from that backup which is now on the external drive? THANK YOU AGAIN!
Hi Please help. I keep getting an error message, "Cannot create a file when that file already exists." How do I delete the file that already exists? Thank you
I have a situation where my 512G XS Max iphone has 460G used space. I have an insurance replacement phone (because front & back are broken) that I can't use to restore from because itunes is creating a 730G back file of my existing phone (yes, instead of compressing the data at a rate of 25G to 5G compression rate at internet says itunes should do). So when I try to restore from backup the software states that there isn't enough storage space on the new iphone. I then followed this video to backup to my external hard drive and try it again where i had plenty of space. iTunes did the same 730G backup file to the external hard drive. But had same problem with itunes still not able to restore from LARGER THAN STORAGE BACKUP. So now the main problem is that after having erased the backup my computer is not recognizing the 750G available storage on the C drive. How do I recover the hard drive space. When I erased it, I did it from the C: backup location and when it completed it had also removed the 750G of used space and showed it available again on the external hard drive, just not on the C: Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The big question is can this external backup easily be used to restore your data? Nobody can seem to answer that! Apple products can be quite quirky if things are not perfect.
