Hi, I have used this method to backup my iPhone to iTunes, where I am using an external HDD hard disk. However, when I click the properties of the folder, it does not reflect the space that my iPhone is currently showing For instance, the iPhone storage is 52.75GB used out of 64GB, while the folder in my external hard disk which was backup from iPhone shows only 19.97GB. iPhone space and backup space is different. Backup will not store actual app (like say 50mb) It’ll store the data inside app (like say 2GB) That is why iPhone storage and backup size is always different

As mentioned by other reviewers, this tutorial is top notch in presentaion and detail. For example, just a simple detail like where to enter a space when typing in the PowerShell box is covered. I previously tried other youtube and online tutorials and ended up corrupting my existing iTunes backups simply because no one else mentioned where to type a space! Powershell not needed!! Why can't we just, 1. rename backup folder, 2. right-click outside Apple backup folder -> Create New Shortcut -> paste the location of external hard drive Done

Hi i took backup to my D drive while restoring one more folder is CREATING AND ITS CONSUMING SAPCE IN D DRIVE due to that D drive is going empty and restoring is fail. D drive storage is 225 Backup size is 105 Free space is 115
Normally, you need twice the size of iPhone backup free on C / D drive to restore your data. If your computer storage is not sufficient, borrow your friend's computer, transfer your backup on C drive on his/ her and restore your iPhone.

Vikas, first great teaching method in your video. Now I understand how to make the new link. I needed this because my laptop has 256G SSD and not enough room to back up both 512G iPhone and 512G iPad. But now you are saying don’t use your beautiful method because external HD file may be corrupted and RESTORE won’t work? Is it possible to drag and drop all “media “ files such as photos, music, videos and other memory hogs manually from iPhone to external HD so that the remaining iPhone backup would be so small that it would fit onto my laptop C drive? And then just manually drag and drop the media files back AFTER the back up? That way, if possible, could always do iTunes backup without media files to small laptop c drive with no corruption. Also, how frequent is the potential corruption? What causes it?
I found few people commenting about corrupted backup error. However, once you have backup on external hard drive, you can transfer that to original C drive location when you want to restore it. Now if you don't have enough space on C drive, borrow your friend's laptop and do the. restore on that laptop for time being. Now, you should always copy your photos and videos to external hard drive to avoid large iPhone backups. Make sure you have 2 same copies of External hard disk so that if one corrupts, another will still have the same data. You can always manually drag and drop photos, videos from iPhone and vice versa. I hope this helps. 👍🏼

Wow - I agree with all positive reviewers - so well done - I am curious about your last comment that you should not try to back up to usb stick - only an external hard drive. I use an old western digital 320 gig external hard drive with surface pro, which has 3.- port. But, there are inexpensive 1 terabyte sticks from China. Your further thoughts would be appreicated.
I have made sure that the file paths are correct several times, but everytime i try to run the command in CommanPrompt it says that it cant find the file path. When i typed in the code it says "cannot create a file when that file already exists" I give up, I followed all the instructions to a T, moving the folder shouldn't be this complicated and involve changing code.
I am confused by your recent post on the backup method. Are you indicating that we can still follow your video but if we have to do a phone restore we should restore from the external drive to our c drive on the computer and then restore to the phone from the backup on our c drive? Yes. You understand correctly! I said that because many people face issue while restoring backup from external hard drive. Better you arrange a PC using which you can restore iPhone backup. Avoid using external drive for restoring purpose. 😊 And don't use external hard drive if you have enough space on C drive!

Hi i took backup to my D drive while restoring one more folder is CREATING AND ITS CONSUMING SAPCE IN D DRIVE due to that D drive is going empty and restoring is fail.
D drive storage is 225
Backup size is 105
Free space is 115
Normally, you need twice the size of iPhone backup free on C / D drive to restore your data.
If your computer storage is not sufficient, borrow your friend's computer, transfer your backup on C drive on his/ her and restore your iPhone.

OMG! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! I got a gaming PC last year. The C drive basically have NO space. The past few days I've been re-dowloading everything to my D drive (because I have no idea how else to do it) because my C drive was full. I just got an iPhone 13 and I'm getting it set up tomorrow. I ran into a problem where my phone wasn't showing up in iTunes and I need to have my phone backed up tonight! I can't thank you enough! You made it super easy and everything you were telling me to do was easy to understand for someone who knows nothing about computers! Thank you again!

Vikas, first great teaching method in your video. Now I understand how to make the new link. I needed this because my laptop has 256G SSD and not enough room to back up both 512G iPhone and 512G iPad. But now you are saying don’t use your beautiful method because external HD file may be corrupted and RESTORE won’t work? Is it possible to drag and drop all “media “ files such as photos, music, videos and other memory hogs manually from iPhone to external HD so that the remaining iPhone backup would be so small that it would fit onto my laptop C drive? And then just manually drag and drop the media files back AFTER the back up? That way, if possible, could always do iTunes backup without media files to small laptop c drive with no corruption. Also, how frequent is the potential corruption? What causes it?
I found few people commenting about corrupted backup error. However, once you have backup on external hard drive, you can transfer that to original C drive location when you want to restore it.
Now if you don't have enough space on C drive, borrow your friend's laptop and do the. restore on that laptop for time being.
Now, you should always copy your photos and videos to external hard drive to avoid large iPhone backups. Make sure you have 2 same copies of External hard disk so that if one corrupts, another will still have the same data.
You can always manually drag and drop photos, videos from iPhone and vice versa.

Wow - I agree with all positive reviewers - so well done - I am curious about your last comment that you should not try to back up to usb stick - only an external hard drive. I use an old western digital 320 gig external hard drive with surface pro, which has 3.- port. But, there are inexpensive 1 terabyte sticks from China. Your further thoughts would be appreicated.
Difficult to comment friend, I wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have any other backup saved on another place.
Better to go with the safer option imo
I have made sure that the file paths are correct several times, but everytime i try to run the command in CommanPrompt it says that it cant find the file path.
I have even tried to copy and paste the paths straight from file explorer, but it justr won't want to work for me...

apple never failed to amazed me how difficult for simple things are. after iphone failed to update inside the phone itself, now im going to pc but with ssd 240GB and the iphone is 250GB, it's just nonsense. stupid software engineering that failed to include this option inside the itune. thank you for this tutorial.

Hi, I have created iphone back to the external drive as you have shown in the video, which was really helpful. But, now the external drive is corrupted and I am not able to do backup on my C drive as it is showing a message that "Path is not found"...please suggest what should I do
Remove the link you had created. I have shown how to revert back to original path inn the second half of the video.
When i typed in the code it says "cannot create a file when that file already exists" I give up, I followed all the instructions to a T, moving the folder shouldn't be this complicated and involve changing code.

I am confused by your recent post on the backup method. Are you indicating that we can still follow your video but if we have to do a phone restore we should restore from the external drive to our c drive on the computer and then restore to the phone from the backup on our c drive? Better you arrange a PC using which you can restore iPhone backup. Avoid using external drive for restoring purpose. 😊
And don't use external hard drive if you have enough space on C drive!

It was going great but my laptop decided to "sleep" in the middle of copying from the C drive to external hard... did I lose the rest of the data that was not copied before it slept? the folder is significantly smaller than size of original one that was cut from C! Please help!
Please re-do the backup. Your old backup is corrupted.
