i’ve had the 2000 s-type v6 model with the beige interior, for me it was pretty much dead reliable. you need to be aware of the size of the car because some times you will bump into something but thankfully it has parking sensors. the wooden trim on the dashboard might crack, the windows regulator might fail or the mechanism might “unstick” from the window so the mechanism goes down but not the window so u have to push it manually up and down. maybe the door handle might break. and it’s a blast and relaxing to drive. it might not have bluetooth but it’s dead easy to retrofit something like a amazon echo car, so even smart. repairs might be expensive where you are ( not the case for me) but with proper, regular maintenance, it will run without problems for long. mine has almost 300000km and nothing major has gone wrong other than basic mechanic maintenance. sometimes you will hear a small humming noise with the suspension but isn’t really bad

My first s type was a 2000 with the 4.0. Tensioners were making noise on second day. Tackled the job myself which wasn't that bad. Shortly after that my transmission pooped the bed. 3k dollars for that fix. Kept the car for about 3 years which is long for me. It was comfortable and I already dumped so much money into the transmission I couldn't justify selling it. Second s type was a 2003 4.2v8 sport model. Very sexy. Engine so much more refined. Had the headlight problem that I fixed with a self tapping screw. Leaky valve cover. So much oil on the spark plugs. Coils were dying left and right. Brake problems that were very annoying. Hard to get parts for the sport model since it was rare and had different brakes. An old lady passed out at the wheel and smashed it up. Got it fixed and sold it immediately. Blessing in disguise I guess. Now I'm after a post 2005 R model..... I don't learn

2000 Jaguar S-type V8 was my very first car. Black with chrome waffle grill and 18in chrome wheels. She was a head turner for sure, I’ve never gotten more compliments in any other car. I was scammed and sold a lemon but I was determined to bring that car back to its glory. Rebuilt trans, new radiator, timing belt, thermostat, & numerous hoses. Definitely put more money into the car than it was worth but my love for this vehicle was worth more than any dollar amount. I just bought a 2001 Type S 4.0. Although I expect this is all good advice, and I bought this vehicle without doing much research and very limited knowledge about Jaguars, I have no regrets at all at having a good example of the earlier version. This is the cleanest used vehicle I have ever seen which is why I couldn't pass it up, and the test drive is what sold me. The suspension is tight and sporty, the engine is quiet and powerful, and in the case of this particular vehicle, it was VERY low miles, and had to have been religiously garaged because it looks and feels like it just came from the showroom floor. I've already had a problem with the power window on the passenger side, and this seems to be a common issue with them wearing out and the glass going off track. I plan to fix it myself. I guess I fell on the wrong side of all the recommendations here, but I don't regret my purchase. So far the car is flawless (besides the minor window issue) and the purchase price was extremely low. I just couldn't pass up the deal. The interior looks brand new. I'm definitely going to baby the engine, mostly just an occasional driver anyway, I am mostly on two wheels unless it's raining or I have passengers. So far so good. For what I paid for it, I really can't go wrong and it's FUN. Databyter

@@ColeSo4kt I bought mine because it was clean and low miles (for the year), so I really haven't had to do much to it. The engine compartment looks very crowded so I doubt it would be easy to work on from that standpoint. As far as engineering, it seems fairly straightforward but there is a lot of ECU controlled components like most modern cars, so I would avoid buying one with major electrical issues if you plan on working on it yourself or you are comfortable with troubleshooting electrical problems. But as I said, I have had zero problems everything works. At first the sunroof was not working consistently but I realized that it had simply not been used much so I exercise it. Now it works fairly well. The switches and tracks having been revitalized by normal use. This is par for the course for older or stored cars. I had to replace one of the power window controller/motors, and I had the ceiling liner redone. That is about it, and frankly I had both of those done for me because neither was a strong point for my knowledge base. I had to replace an exterior power window which was really easy, and was due to vandalism, not defect. Databyter

I brought a 2003 for $1500 about 5 months ago and I love it, got a few issues but it runs smooth, sounds great and looks like been garaged nice hot red color, I also have 2 bikes (Goldwing n Vulcan) plus a van, so only drive it on weekends when I'm not biking and living in Florida I bike year round, my Jag the 3.0 but man that thing gets-up-and-GO 😁

Check for rust. Check for rust behind the cill covers. Check for rust in the floor pans. Check for rust in the rear subframe, this can be very expensive to have repaired, usually writes one off unless it's a good R model. Check for rust in front of the rear bumper.
Did I say check for rust?
My 2002 model had serious rust five years ago, absolutely shocking for a modern car really. Apparently they were galvanised from new...
I've got a 1996 VW T4 with 190k hard working miles on it and it has less rust.

I had a 2003 S-type 4.0 ...I loved the body style, very rich! But man.....it was one problem after another! Great engine but... transmission problems. It was constantly in the shop! That car would nickel and dime me to death! I finally had to get rid of it after 3 years, I couldn't afford the repairs anymore. But...still beautiful cars!

I bought a 2005 S-TYPE 4.2L V8 3 years ago. It was perfect then and exciting to drive. Over the past 2 years, it's had so many issues that it's broke down more than up and running. You name it and I've had to work on it or replace it. It needs when more work done to it including the shocks, ball joints, water pump. I've replaced head gasket, brakes, calipers, auxiliary water pump, heater control valve, radiator, multiple sensors, coils, etc. The headliner is coming apart, the sunroof leaks and no longer works, the paint is fading. Lots of cheap plastic parts and wiring. Buyer Beware!

Tnx you know what your talking about! I have a 2003 Type. S and I bought it with 95,000 miles have changed the heater thing you talked about! Also D front shock absorbers which cost a lot of money! $280 dollars plus installation! Also had other problem w/a leak in the front suspension plus other minor problems like the so called hand brake which is a foot brake but cut the cable now I have an amber light on all the time! And the Transm. seems to smtms not know if to change from first to second gear but only when you let go of the gas pedal and step on it again! Although I now know not to do that and drives fine! But if other people drive it I think it would do it again! Other than that it's been good for quite a while now! I've driven it 35,000 miles w/no problems so far! Knock on wood! However do they all have that pickup or not cz I've heard other people say they have that problem! I took it to a transmission Pl and they said they could not find anything wrong w/it! So if you know anything about this please do tell about it! Thank you for your great video!!!

  • @stevest1300
    @stevest1300 4 роки тому +6

The video fails to mention that this model of Jaguar was introduced under new ownership by Ford in 1999. The early models still had Jaguar legacy. Tow trucks loved Jaguar before Ford took over.
After Ford had a chance to dig into the Jaguar models, they started to put Ford parts in them. The 3.0 is a Ford Duratec, one of the most reliable common and fixable/replaceable engines out there. The transmission is also Ford. It can be problematic, particularly the torque converter.
I laugh at people who say a Jag is just a Ford during that era. It's what Jag needed as their cars were expensive junk, pretty much like today's BMWs and Volkswagons. Unfortunately the average Jag buyer wanted status more than good mechanical. Slandering the name of Jaguar with a Ford flag was unacceptable to the average Jag loyalist.
The great part about these cars is that they have the comfort, handling, luxury and sex appeal of a Jag but the easy and cheap fixes of a Ford Taurus. Any mechanic can handle these. If you are at all a shade tree mechanic, most of the fixes are doable with a trip to Pep Boys and the beer store.

I really like this car, I was recently gifted a 2006 s type with 122,000 miles. Drives smoothly and my interior has held up well, especially after 122,000 miles. However, as a 6'3" man, there is absolutely no room whatsoever in the front or back seats. Even when I lean it all the way back, my knees are pressed against the glove box no matter what I try. I wouldn't even think about taking a 20 minute drive somewhere. guess the car wasn't made for 6 footers lol

from 2003 are a lot better and especially the 3.0 version are very reliable in combination with low consumption on public roads. the versions before 2002 are not recommended. The 2003 versions have
some electronic points may be weak. especially the heating regulator sometimes breaks down. the brakes aren't too great.
the automatic 6-speed gearbox is from ZF and shifts buttery smooth. otherwise a great car where you can expect many compliments

it can be a bad crankshaft position sensor,
but if the engine is not cranking at all then it can be a bad starter-or the wires to the starter -maybe the ground
or loose eventually corroded connection wires to the components
in some cases even the ECU can be faulty or some relay
