  • Hey everyone Rho here! Today we're discussing the decline of the High Lords of Terra! How while it may be the Emperor's vision, the council has always seemed to be self serving...
Spoiler Warning to begin as today we will be discussing events from the Warhammer 40,000 story "I am Slaughter" by author Dan Abnett. As always I really recommend you read the stories for yourself first without spoilers! As that's the best way to enjoy the lore for yourself!

They can absolutely be trusted... to serve their own interests.

I would rather have the Inquisition reigned in.
Not desbanded, not destroyed, never that, their duties are absolutely necessary.
I just want a little more accountability.
Call me crazy, but i dont think its a good idea to give a bunch of people the power to destroy entire worlds without needing to justify themselves to anyone.
They can take charge of any Imperial vessel or army, they have their personal Astartes in the form of Death Watch and Grey Knights.
    They can destroy entire worlds.
And they answer to no one but the Emperor.
Too much power with too little accountability.

Hopefully the Lion will deal with those while Guiliman can deal with the High Lords.
Hopefully Dorn will be back soon and can take control of the Administratum.

I think it was intended as a commentary on the current state of affairs today in a lot of places around the world. Science fiction has always been a way to reflect on now by looking forward.

Send Kurze to deal with the High Lords like he dealt with Nostramo. No Emperor above them or Malcador beside them? Send in the Night Haunter.

No, power is like a radiological isotope. Contained, put to practical use with as little contact as possible, wonderful things can be achieved. However prolonged contact will corrupt and mutate anyone.

Can't wait for Imperial Fists week!
Humanity is too short lived and short sighted to make good decisions in darkened times without guard rails like the Emperor and Malcador. Still, I wouldn't want Guilliman to have to institute a Tetrarchy in the Sol system to get things running smoothly.

The sad thing is this is oddy accurate as how politics play in real life (at least the shipyards part, i hope not about the petty table part).

Shall I tell you the story of Sister Boudica of the 10,000?
She was the most powerful, strong and the quickest wit of the custodes. She was also the big bad boss lady that ran a tight ship and totally wasn’t a total b*£ch.
She was on The Vengeful Spirit with The Emperor but unfortunately her time of the month came at the worst moment and she had to excuse herself to midship bathrooms. Khorne was pleased as he cares not from where the blood flows.
When she returned history had been written, The Emperor was crippled and Horus unexisted.
Once the entourage returned she gave those of the Custodes who failed to be there when Big E fell to Horus of House Heresy. After all it couldn’t be HER fault she had to excuse herself to the midship bathroom. As The Emperor was placed upon The Golden Throne there wasn’t a single dry eye nor a single sound save that of Sister Boudica screaming at the top of her lungs that she couldn’t believe how incompetent The Custodes were and if she had been there Horus would have been defeated in no time and Big E would be whole and healthy.
She was the best of the best you know, the greatest custodes, none were her equal. Since the beginning of the 10,000 she has always been there.

For all the insane crap the Inquisition does....they are at least very much needed. The High Lords....well those idiots managed to get Goge Vandire so that shows how incompetent they truly are.

    The Highlords when?
Most of the Highlords of 40k/41k couldn't be trusted to put on their own shoes.
After the Lord Commander departed on the Indomitus Crusade, and the power grab by some of the Highlotds, and their disposal, the remaining Highlords can be trusted at least not to actively betray the Lord Commander. Everyday graft, corruption, and cronyism continue apace.
    ---
Your description has the Highlords conducting business in the Imperial Palace. I guess that's lore-ccorrect, but before now, I had thought they operated their own structure outside the Imperial Palace. (I've read a handful of books, but I get most of my lore on UA-cam, and I've simply never heard a description of Highlord operations.)

Imagine how differently things would have played out had Guilliman been present.
Better yet, Imagine if both he and Dorn had been present.
Those absolute logistical POWERHOUSES would have had the Imperium runningblike a well oiled machine.

If they would have ruled as de facto junior Emperors and used the High Lords as rubber stamps held in an iron fist, then things would have gone better when it comes to the functioning of the system, yes. But not so good for the idea of the humanity governing itself.

    • @UncleMikeDrop
      @UncleMikeDrop 4 місяці тому +2

@@RaimoKangasniemi They would not have used the High Lords as rubber stamps.
They would have simply kept them in check.
As far as "self governance" is concerned, it was a MESS.

Wait isnt the Fabricator general, one of the high lords, the size of a small building? i doubt they are getting a lil wooden chair for him lol

    • @Sealdeam
      @Sealdeam 4 місяці тому +3

That's the current Fabricator doubt he's the same person that was around then 8K years in the past, and it seems that the current one can be disassembled as seen when he met the drukhari, it wasn't a big ass tower what met with those degenerates, so past fabricator might had that same capacity to fit in smaller places.

High Lords of Terra and the Emperor's vision - at least in the form it took when the heresy brought out - were not about humanity governing itself, but about humanity's tiny elite (that had a share in the Imperium) governing humanity. A small, privileged and entitled group, supposedly working for the good of all - an unlikely recipe for long term flourishing of the Imperium.

0:51 I think it is pretty clear that the emperor never intended for ordinary humans to truly govern the Imperium. The fate of Kawandire in 'Valdor: Birth of the Imperium' made it pretty clear that the laws don't matter, all that matters is what the emperor wants.
