    This has been my preferred strat set up for 20 yrs for the exact reason he mentions here. A similar sound, is a reverse strat with the single coil bridge pick up angled towards the bridge.

    Shawn you are true professional brother. Your knowledge is incredible and your playing is great too. So many players get lost in the technical side of guitar that they forget to get good at playing the damn thing. You do both!

    Love all your videos Shawn! I just put 250K pots across the board for my HSS and don’t have to screw with the tone knobs at all. I never want a wide-open bridge tone anyway.

    thanks.. good solid info.. and I got to hear how nicely the G2 stacked into the 2nd channel of that G20.. which we could kind of compare to the G2 stacking into a G3 (which I have).. I definitely want that G2.. heck gimme one of them G20s.. and I'll take a Suhr SSH.. haha!

    The reason I like HSS strst with coil tap is because the humbucker sounds better than a tapped single coil on a humbucker. I use coil tap a lot on my HSS strat but almost never use coil tap on any H/H guitar I have because the single coil doesn't sound great.

    Wouldn't SSS config with a tone knob just for the bridge single be more ideal, since the outputs are matched and you do have options for fatter bridge pickup tone or completely opened typical strat bridge tone?
    And you can just use another drive if you want to get into more of the metal territory.
    Of course it's never ganna sound like the real humbucker for sure.

    • @TheIgnoramus
      @TheIgnoramus 2 роки тому

      With a pull pot that splits the humbucker, if it’s a quality pickup it’s basically the same as an SSS at that point.

    I'm not sure I'm sold on the HSS. Sounds kind of cheesy when you do the metal thing. I don't know. This video actually makes me lean more towards the Tele and maybe modifying the pickups there. IDK. Please, take no offense. I'm just trying to figure out what I want to use for my setup. Your video is actually very, very informative.

    • @RevvAmps
      @RevvAmps  4 роки тому +5

      Maybe Shawn will chime in, but for me personally you have one of two choices on an HSS guitar. Have a low output humbucker that balances better with the singles, and use drives for different levels of gain - or have a hotter bridge pickup that you use for your tones that should be hotter and then use the other positions for cleaner / quieter tones. If you want to get it even with no modifications to your guitar you could adjust pickup height or set your amp with more breakup so it's compressing more which will make all pickup positions behave more similarly and then back off with the volume knob for clean tones. Of course when tracking / in the studio this isn't as important because you can dial in the perfect tone for each overdub. I love Andersons too, great guitars.

      @@RevvAmps Thank you. since I love the tone of these particular pups I've been using 2 sparks on my board. It works for now however I plan on emailing Tom cause he's great at responding. I have a boost switch on the TA
      that works great with cleans tones, not so much on the higher gains. Love your products btw and Shawn makes me want everything in the video ! haha..

    • @christianboddum8783
      @christianboddum8783 4 роки тому +1

      @@RevvAmps I'll chime in as I've spent many years finding out what works for me. Even a low output humbucker will give the impression of a stronger sound, so maybe a 7,5 K Ohm humbucker will do the trick, and keep things balanced. for years I tried to do the split in position 2, but it never sounded right for me, it will never really sound like a Strat. I took another approach going from the humbucker; Let the humbucker stay humbucker, let position 2 be the milder setting for less kick still with humbucker flavor. That works for me. In several of my HSS guitars i have 5-way superswitches installed, and in position 3 I have bridge-neck pu. That really works for a lot of situations, especially for lightly overdriven rhythm sounds and clean almost acoustic sounds. Since I don't use the middle pickup that much, this is much better option, to me. Getting hotter single coil pickups to match the humbucker is too much of a trade off soundwise (Like Jake E. Lee does with SDS-1 pickups), also it raises the overall gain and that affects the quality of the clean sounds, for the worse. Another tip is; you make the middle tone into volume balance for the Humbucker, by using a 500 k pot (no ground connection) and it will be a 50 to 100% volume, making it equal to the singles at 50% with no treble loss. FWIW
