Man don’t ya just love those super early mornings for a road trip?! I never sleep much the night before; too excited. Everything is so surreal, quiet, get that first cup o’ Joe, bike is packed ready to be unleashed, the anticipation for what’s ahead. Can’t beat it.
Wow so cool John. You are truly blessed to be mechanically inclined! On our way to Niagara Falls, and Laconia in June my Husband and I stayed in Grand Island, and Albany for a few days and visited Brunswick Harley Davidson. Such an awesome Dealership! They had so much Harley paraphernalia that I have never seen before. You never know what you will experience on the road. Like you running into the Family Truckster with Imogene Coca (Aunt Edna) on the roof of the car. Perfect! How cool!
Greatt vid John. Love the early morning starts. Our day 1 is always a high mileage day, since we're fresh. Try make 500 plus on day 1. Glad tha Glen got that issue squared away, that was a scary one. Thanks for bringin us along. Have a blast fellas. Safe ride.
Wow how crazy same thing happened with the brake caliper bolt on our ride last week on my buddies Fatboy. Chewed the treads up as it was falling out. Had to tap the threads to clean them out to get the new bolt it. And Harley didn’t have it so had to just buy a random bolt from hardware store to get us home.
Best thing to do when the sky gets black is to stop and put on rain gear it will never rain. If you don't put the rain gear on it will rain. 😂😂😆😆😉😉 Ride safe.
Enjoyed this video...sold my bike in May; family first...so fun to watch your early morning departure on roads I've traveled. Brunswick Harley...I've got the poker chip....Old Town ME...can't wait to see where you go next. Eat lobster, ride safe and enjoy.
Dang y’all are in my neck of the woods. I am in Boston this weekend but old town is just a few miles away from my house. Safe travels and keep the videos coming 🤙🏽
I did a road trip from Tennessee to Canada, Niagara Falls and back to Tennessee with a new set of metzeler cruise tech tires on 2014 street glide special, no issues at all, great tire!
Just put a set of Metzler Cruisetec put on yesterday. I have a highway speed wobble. My rear tire load rating is 74w and it should be 80h or 81h. The side wall is too soft. Front should be 63h.
New England is awesome and Maine is great. Not that you would remember but I am from Maine I live in Ct now but have a boat load of cousins there. If you go through Mexico that is were I was born. Stay safe and have a blast
I had a problem with a set of new Bridgestone tires causing a high speed wobble and it turned out the load rating for the tire wasn’t to spec. The size and everything else matched but not the load rating. Something to check with your buddies tires. Love the videos, God bless. Im in Okc, Oklahoma if you’re ever passing through.
I bought a pair of Metzler cruisetechs and rode them for approx 3 miles before they almost wobbled me off of my bike at 80mph! The wobble got worse as I slowed down, pulling onto the shoulder of the interstate. I went right back to OEM tires and no more issues. Never again!
Just came back from our road trip from New Mexico to Maine last week brother. Rode all the coast for five days. Did the Lobster festival in Rockland. Traffic in Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire was a bit much due to road construction everywhere. But Maine was awesome! Stayed in Belfast at the Yankee Clipper. Right across the street is Young’s Lobster Pound (go there man!). Rode up to Lubec (you gotta do that to!) Go have an old fashion at the Cohill’s Inn (Lubec). Have fun and bee safe!
John, no, I had a set of Metzler‘s installed over the winter. My first ride at around 80 miles an hour my bike was weaving. One of the boys came up from behind me and told me my bikes all over the road I could feel it. Something definitely wrong with a Metzlers try taking it up with a dealer they wouldn’t have anything to do with it. Ended up having to put two new tires on at my cost again. It was a scary situation.
I have a 19 CVO Limited with the Cruise tech tires and am having the same problem. I took it to Harley and they tightened the steering which helped but it still happens at speeds over 75 mph. It's not bad but still there.
Yes I had a Cruisetec rear tire that had a problem on my 18 RG CVO. We changed the tire after troubleshooting for a month. It was just a bad tire. I’m running that replacement tire for about 3.5k now. They are great tires if you require more grip. They don’t get the mileage of American Elites but you have to give something to get something.
I run the CruiseTecs on my 2020 Challenger. Have had a few problems with the front tire cupping early and causing head-shake issues between 45-50mph if you take your hands off the handlebars. Indian has been good to replace both tires I had issues with under warranty. From what I have heard, its more to do with keeping the proper tire pressures... I'm running 41psi in the front and 44psi in the rear. They have been the best tires for solid traction no matter the conditions, over every other tire I have tried in 36k miles. I'm sticking with the CruiseTecs.
Dang, bad luck on the caliper… Looks like someone else needs a 1250 GS for the trip… 😊 good thing that there are so many Harley Dealers around the country.
I just purchased a pair of Metzeler tires. I went with the ME 888 Marathon Ultra, and it seems like the better tire to me. They ride really well👍🏿. Hate he's having issues with the Cruisetec. Great video y'all stay safe🤙🏿!!
tire is out of round. had 3 that were visibly out of round on the cruistec tires. jack the bike up til its just off the ground and spin the tire and you can see the issue.
Awesome video !! The motorcycle community is a unique group 😊 thank God no one got hurt that’s another thing I will be checking brake caliper be safe guys👍🏻
I did a similar route leaving out of CT over the weekend and early part the week. I stuck to the back roads... The amount of road construction and traffic I ran into was sickening...I actually cut my ride short by a day because I had enough.
Metzler tires suck. I had a set of ME880 on a Vulcan 1500 classic. The front tire was out of round and would bounce at 40 MPH. I have a set of Metzler ME 888 on my Vulcan Vaquero, they don't feel confident in the corners. On my 21 Road Glide, I have Dunlop American Elite 3. These tires rock.
As to the tyres had the same problem with Cruisetec they were not weight rated for my bike. It was all over the place balanced them twice ect i took them back place looked into it yeh wrong tyres I went to a Different brand.
Interesting approach to access the brake caliber behind the right saddle bag…. Why do you not have a disconnect on the bag light wire, it would be so much easier to work on the brakes…
There is a disconnect, but it’s under the seat and I would’ve had to takeoff my rear bag and seat, so this was just easier to do it this way! Thanks for watching. Just part of the adventure.👍💯🇺🇸😎
Premature cupping issue for most Challenger and Pursuit bikes turned out to be tire pressure related. Most guys are now running 41psi front and 44psi rear and have not had this issue reoccur with the replacement CruiseTecs from Indian Motorcycle.
Make a bead mark on the tire aligned with the valve stem. Take it for a ride and check if the mark is still aligned. Had this issue beginning of the year and the tire would rotate 180 degrees on the rim in roughly 5-10 miles. Got a new set of tires and problem was solved. Could also just be defective tires from manufacturer.
I think we need to showcase that gray Bike it’s pretty fresh. I like the colors on that footboard and I like that carbon fiber piece on the middle of the gas tank.!!!
8:08 Had the same issue on my Street Glide with the Cruisetecs. Bad handlebar wobble on deceleration, and constant handlebar wobble at speeds around 30-45mph. Had the tire rebalanced, adjusted my neck bearing, replaced my neck bearing. Nothing fixed it. Swapped tires out to something else, issue was gone. It’s a shame, because other than the wobble, they handled great. A few other guys I ride with have experienced the same thing with the Cruisetecs. One of which was a brand new Indian that came with them.
Hey John I didn’t hear you guys mention anything but did Glen recently have his brakes changed? Being the tinkerer that I am 🤣 I do my own service and I’m wondering why that bolt came out? Y’all stay safe out there.
I know by the time I've posted this comment at least several days have past since you made the Maine trip, but I wanted to give a few tips on what to look for on your friends bike about the tire change/wobble issue he had, before assuming the tire is to blame, I'd take it to a competent experienced Harley(not a "powersports") tech to check for wheel alignment issues, did the tire changer install the wheel spacers in the correct orientation, is the tire unidirectional and mounted correctly? wheel/neck bearings, axle/wheel trueness.. etc. You'd be surprised at issues that some shops have and don't either know they screwed up or choose not to tell the consumer.
@@CYCLEFANATIX I get it, but the tire isn't the only thing that was touched, for example: just installing the wheel spacers incorrectly can cause a misalignment between the rear wheel, front wheel, the rubber mounted engine and the frame, all have to be in alignment for stability. The tire could indeed be the cause, I'm just saying.. never assume.😉
To cyclefanatix - as I have on my Kawasaki zx14r Michelin Road 5(Road 6 wasn't available that certain moment last year) and I absolutely love them, they are the best in wet weather and superb on dry as being far over legal limits sport rider the rear lasts about 11-12k miles, Road 6 is even better(I use 190/55, because it is much easier ride and more sporty/nimble) , so I changed my rear of my Indian and I wanted Michelin Commander 3( Indian has strange 180/60 but I know from forums 180/65 as HD has fits well). So - first day with Michelin Commander 3 and completely different feeling, please use only Michelin Commander on cruisers, it is just so amazing riding feeling with those tires, very good grip- I was in shock actually and so much more nimble than Dunlop (s....t). Really, please try, Michelin is more expensive but You really feel the difference. Sunshine to your rides!

Interesting, my CruseTecs suffered from cupping prematurely... turns out the cupping was caused from riding hard with not enough tire pressure. Was advised by several other Indian Challenger owners that they run theirs higher PSI than the manual suggest and have had MUCH better results. I'm running mine at 41psi front and 44psi rear... no issues since upping the tire pressure. Nothing happened
