- AWAKEN AKIRA was created by two friends, Ash Thorp and Zaoeyo (XiaoLin Zeng), who wanted to collaborate on a tribute to the iconic anime, Akira, by Katsuhiro Otomo. It's creation took over a year, as we had to coordinate our time on it with other project commitments.
We hope you find it was well worth the wait and truly enjoy our efforts. We would like to thank Pilotpriest for the masterful score, as well as Raf Grassetti and The Joelsons for their help on the project. We would also like to give our most sincere thank you to Otomo-san and all the men and women who helped bring Akira to life. Akira has and will always be a timeless and continual muse for all of us.

You could feel everything about Akira carried into this song; the fear of untamed power and the desperate control of it. The broken marble throne like seat symbolises the ascension of Tetsuo power and his veneration as a god, but such thought has clearly eroded his sanity and lead to his corruption

@@-Siculus-Hort- The problem with Akira, at least for me, is that is a quintessential japanese story. Civil unrest, fear of overpopulation, the open wounds of WWII and youth rebellion agains't authority.
If the movie is done by an US company (they are the only ones with budget and matered the art of CGI which this movie would demand), they will try to americanize the thing, and will simply not work.
And if they make the risk bet of making the movie with asians, it will either be with asians speaking japanese (that I think it should be) and amercians would not watch it because they can't follow the subtitles fast enough, or will be in english but with a weird accent that may be offputting to the masses.

I really like that the elements throughout evoke Akira without showing the most common imagery of Akira, things like the motorcycle, Tetsuo, Kaneda. The feel of Neo-Tokyo, the extreme building, the almost entropist style construction (e.g. pipes, conduits, circuits all in exposed proximity. Excellently done.

Did you read the manga? The movie was released before the end of the manga, so if you want a more detailed and slightly different story and with more characters the manga is perfect
No sequel.
I will only accept a Live Akira film with people who work on it are truly passionate about it.

Actually, you can! They released a playlist of 26 videos where they spend 10-15 minutes talking about every shot they created, and some of the stuff they didn't end up using. It's interesting stuff.

The project is well alive as it reached his goal and shows the love of the artists for Otomo's masterpiece and what you see here is the full grown result of many talents working together for their passion's own sake.

I saw Akira in 1989 when it came out as a teenager at the movie theater in London and it blew me away. It always does over the years. This made me feel a sense of that same feeling I felt when I first watched it. Incredible job.

Hi, I was wondering if you could check out my animation project on my channel I did for 3rd year university. I was the only one working on it and only had 6 weeks to make it. Any feedback would be appreciated :) Its no where near as good as this Akira animation, but I did do the music, voices, animations, and editing, and pretty much anything else that was involved.

The atmosphere is so dark and apocalyptic, something that both the Manga and Anime never really conveyed that well. THIS is how I would want a film version to be.

Last I heard Taika Waititi (Thor Ragnarok) expressed an interest to adapt the actual manga! into a movie.
Which is a very novel idea, because up to now everyone was always talking about a live action version of the anime, which in all honesty doesn't do the AKIRA epos justice.
If anything should be live action it should be the Manga since the manga is 5x better than the anime and the anime makes you ask alot of questions, my suggestion is that they should make the adaption into a 6 part series covering all volumes

4K REMASTER BETTER LOOK LIKE THIS GOD DAMN IT
The design alone is unbelievable. If there ever was a live-action Akira film, it should look something like this. The colors and the textures of everything look spot-on, completely preserving the look of the anime film but also bringing it into the real world.
