Fun fact: pickleball was actually created in Washington state by a family that used ping pong paddles and a wiffleball on their old tennis/badminton court one summer when they forgot to bring other equipment. They created the rules which eventually became the sport. The name “pickleball” comes from their dog Pickles, who would often steal the ball in between points.
Can confirm. Growing up in WA, we played pickleball all the time in gym class. It was an easy indoor activity to do on the basketball courts.
The game would be amazing if the players had to play fetch with a dog for 20 minutes before the game and let it run around during play.

Was expecting Jomboy’s face to come out that guy’s crotch. Disappointed.
I play pickleball every week, and I have to say, it's the dumbest thing to try and be super competitive at. All the little dink shots they're hitting are because you can't volley a shot in the kitchen (that long rectangle near the net) so if someone misplays something off the bounce, you try and punish it. The sport at the highest level is played like two tennis players playing a long, conservative rally where they hope the other player hits it into the net, all while being infinitely more ridiculous looking.
Same here on the weekly games. My crew is fun though, some light smack talk, and a variety of game strats, some dinking points, some smashing points, it's great fun. Well, until those super competitive douches show up and try to make it the most important thing in their life.
The dinking strategy largely depends on the players. Many players are more aggressive, i.e. Waters/Waters, Ben Johns, Matt Wright, AJ Koller. They tend to attack more often, on what most would call "less attackable or unattackable balls".
Saying the game at the highest level is just dinking and hoping the other team hits it into the net is pretty reductive. All pro's have great hands, regularly hit passing shots, volley rallies (as shown in this video), lobs, flicks, slices, drops, etc.

There is no activity so mundane or uninteresting to spectators that Americans will not be extremely competitive about it.

I played this as a kid at primary school in NZ (7-10 yrs old). We called it paddle tennis (although I think we pronunced it padder tennis). We always rushed to school early to set this up so we could play before school started. Loved it.
I was in Florida last weekend and was at a softball park and a pickle ball court was full with 70 players at 8am...people love it now
