So that it doesn't turn into tennis and half the game is just watching / won on serves. Its a good decision and makes it more fun to play and watch than tennis.
While fun to play casually , it lacks the sophistication and emergent gameplay required to be a spectator sport. Simply put, it's repetitive to watch. This won't replace tennis.
that point starting at 01:24 minutes- that man running after the ball- his body/feature makes him look a lot like JUAN MARTIN DEL POTRO in the TENNIS WORLD.....😀
Yep, I was getting really ticked at the guy who was practically running across and stealing shots from his female partner constantly. Ironically, he ended up losing the point.
@@burritosburritosit really isn't, there were lots of chances for a clear and easy smash to win the point but they didn't hit it, maybe there's a rule against it? I came from Tennis and obviously some of those shots are already missed winning oppurtunities. Or maybe this sport is just dumb, and I don't get it.
Everything always looks so easy until you do it. It looks weird to me, too, and it is probably overdone lately, but The tendency to hit overheads fairly softly seems to have evolved just less than a year ago, and I can think of a couple of reasons for it. Firstly, the defense among these players has gotten so good that they will return a smash almost every time, so the idea is to go for numbers, expecting they will make a mistake before you do, which, if you're at the kitchen lien and they're at the baseline, is a good bet. But if you're really wailing on overheads, _you_ are more likely to make a mistake first. Also, hitting several similar shots at different speeds can throw your opponent's timing off, and cause them to miss an easy shot, sort of like a change up in Baseball.
@@sirajmunir9947 ok, maybe it was on the line, but I did slow it down and watched it and it appeared to be over. Anyhow now I know that if it is hit outside the line it is out. Thanks

I mean this is like rallying and the way to win is if the other side messes up because the court is so small lol like they don't allow you to volley (past that line) so whoever can endure the longest wins lol
You watched that entire reel, and what you saw was a low intensity sport? DFW wrote about hitting the ball around with top-100 tennis pros, concluding that if you aren't down at court level, you haven't got the least clue how fast the game is really going. It's exactly the same thing with pickleball, only moreso. The lofty camera angle used to film pickleball distorts the frenetic pace of the hand battles even more than the lofty camera distorts the true speed of tennis professionals. What's different in pickleball is that the ball slows down a lot more from baseline to baseline (the flight time in both sports is comparable), making it possible to pastiche together a desperate defense for far longer. You also can't bounce the ball so high in the air off a smash that the ball becomes truly unplayable, either. In tennis, after a proper kill shot, everyone relaxes and heads for their water bottles. In doubles pickleball, there really isn't such a thing as a perfect kill shot. Every attempt at a kill shot is another opportunity for the defending team to dig deep for another round of desperately intense heroics. I grew up in the Golden Age of the Arcade. I pretty much quit the arcade when Mortal Kombat showed up on the scene, and it was the only game anyone else was playing. You looked over at that screen, and half the time the player was standing around to watch the same old cutscene of another severed head and dangling spine raised to the rafters as it dripped blood. Standing around, buffing your nails to dripping blood, pixellized, for the hundredth time in a row. Oh, how intense! I didn't play games with cutscenes. I didn't play any of those half-action games. I played games where the _actual_ action was nonstop, until this new definition of "intense" drove me out of the arcade once and for all. Tennis is more like Mortal Kombat. If that's how you perceive intensity-as residing more in the cutscene _between_ rallies-you'll simply never get pickleball.
Yeah, I wish they could come up with something better, because it sounds so lame. I can see a day when major sponsorship for tournaments will come from the likes of Heinz and Claussen. :)
