We didn't had choice but to use clones when I was a child. Because Nintendo doesn't bother to enter officially in a small country, they don't care about small markets. So, technically we were not pirates, but someone who were trying to have access what the rich children had in more bigger countries, is that a crime :( ?

You've quickly become one of the best gaming channels on UA-cam. Every video is an absolute pleasure to watch. I learn new stuff, see cool pics, and get to hear about games from when we were kids with a new perspective.
Indeed she has. It's always great to learn what people in other countries were playing on at the same time that we Americans were big into, say, the NES and Master System.
There are much better retro channels out there than this channel, she doesn't even show you the system running, the only actual reason why I would watch and click on a video like this, Retro Cave for instance is far better, he will open up the console, show of what makes it tick, then show it running, give a run-down of the specs, give an interview with someone involved in the production of the machine or games released on it, and so on, this video just played out as an extended intro to the system, the closest we got to actually seeing anything about it was a quick unbox lol, I mean to each his own, every dog has his spot, but her channel doesn't match up to say the top 10 retro gaming channels on UA-cam.
I grew up in South Africa, where Familclones were the main consoles. The main clone was called 'Golden China'. Until today, everyone here calls NES the Golden China.

I would say that the Nippondo system was even more desirable in Spain than the actual original Nintendo. I grew having the original while envying my cousins Nippondo. In fact my cousins ended up gifting to me their own system when the craze started to go down. Years later, when Tamagotchis arrived, it was like a crime to have a fake one, people would even make laugh at you because of that... But years before that, having a Nippondo was the coolest thing. A bit later, everyone in Spain had a modified PS1 with insane amounts of burned cd"s, and no one was cooler than the rest 🤣
In Portugal there was a console from Atlantis, which was a NES clone. It was very similar to the original system. It even had a TV commercial, albeit never mentioning that it could play NES games.
I had one of those, even the controllers where exact copies, it even played the original nes cartriges, as a friend of mine had one and i remember borrowing him one or two games back then.
13:19 They perhaps changed the name at the last minute. The console says "Entertainment computer system", while the box says "Entertainment family system". Or perhaps they just wanted to cover all the bases of "Entertainment System" and "Famicom" (Family Computer).
I love how they went all in and put a fake Rolex crown on it too. Then what looks like a cat meme as a game next to knock-off Mario on the side of the box. Perfection.
What amazes me is that the Famicom design actually won...not to long ago (I really want to say Namco) released a console that looks like one of the top load Famicom ones.. I bought one for a Christmas gift for a friend of mine so he wouldn't have to use his original one.. it was tiny, not much wider than the cartridge itself... it was white with red accent on the buttons and flaps.. Nintendo has quite the history for the clones..
You want a very weird "console" to do a piece on? Try a Doctor V64. They were so rare, that they were more of a myth, rather than a real machine. I have only seen one of these in my life, and it was at a friend's home back in the late 90s, whom imported a lot of consoles. He also had the only Neo Geo, and the only TurboGrafx-16 i have seen in my life. Trough another friend i also got to play on a rare Philips MSX. Many years later, i learned MSX was an only an architecture, and other brands had their own machines that used the same system. Some important games began their franchises on the MSX systems, like Metal Gear and Bomberman. I felt very lucky to even have seen those machines, let alone play on them. In my country back in those days (Portugal BTW), by and large we've only had the run-of-the-mill systems over the years, from the ZX Spectrum and Commodore Amiga, to Atari, and later Sega and Nintendo.
That's pretty cool. I like that unlike the original nes, you don't have to push it down as that was known to cause issues with making the pins wear out over time.
Should you want to go deeper into the fami-clones quest, I suggest two Brazilian ones: - the Phantom System, one of the fami-clones with the sleekiest design (and a horrible starter gaming choice). - and the Dynavision series of consoles, which began with the JPN 60-pin slot for their two first consoles and then made out the incredible feat of having BOTH 60-pin and 72-pin ports in the same motherboard.
I like that you’ve found a niche of your own to explore and in my opinion it’s nothing short of the importantance of historical preservation and documentation. If you are really passionate about the topic, you could go even deeper to understand the economics of the creation of this outlet of hardware. The western/eastern language barrier is a challenge for any real researcher and I doubt your work would go unnoticed combining that with what you’re already doing. It would probably be easier to go after the history of the manufacturers by finding people who have experience in the plastic and chip industries the products are sourced from in an industry in Asia. From the factory lines to the designs, I would be interested to know the nostalgia of the people who worked to create the raw components of famicons and famiclones in these videos too.

This Dido console is amazing aesthetically! I found another one called "Nasa NS-90A ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEM". It's almost the same but has Famicom slot in back 🤔. Dido looks better, it's so clean, looks similar to the US NES but has the slot without press down. If the shell was re-used exactly for a new clone console I would buy it for sure. How the hell did they produce this in such low numbers!?
If nothing else, I can state with confidence that I was surprised as a teenager, after getting a Colecovision, to find out that their RF boxes were NES compatible. That said, it's absolutely useless for determining if the Dido used old stock for their systems, as I've not even heard of pirate Colecovision systems, or even if the Colecovision managed to go beyond the USA and Canada
I have a Famiclone of my own. Called the Retro-Duo, it's built to play NES and SNES cartridges. I had to have my power adapter replaced though, and could only order it online. Guess I can't trust traditional brick and mortar specialty stores like I used to. Also, I would love to get my hands on that Famicom to NES adapter you showed.
That brand has the worst hardware emulation available. Half the games don't work and the sound is awful. It's a waste of money. You're better off getting the original hardware used for the same price or less.
I think you meant to say: "In SOVIET Russia, video games pirate YOU." But seriously, very curious piece of hardware you've got there. Any chance you could open it up and take some pictures of the PCB and the rest of the guts inside? I'm especially curious if these machines support the expanded audio of Japanese carts. It might be a good test to pop one of those Japanese carts in to test, such as "Akumajō Densetsu" or "Gimmick!"
My family had the famiclone Hi-Tex , got it with a converter so i could play Pal games and i do think it would run NTCS. (live in sweden), For the 80-90s we had alot of mailorder ads and thats how alot of people in sweden got hold of their famiclones, multicarts and even sachen that had a little market here. Im sure it some stores had famiclones in store bu t mainly you had to buy it on mailorder ads.
Strange. I don't think we had access to Nintendo clones at all in Norway. Only the (expensive) real deal. Never saw any kid I knew have any clone system in their home either, so until I went on holiday in Romania as a 14 year old boy I had no idea they even existed...
I believe all these famiclones, NASA, Nippondo, Creation, Yess!, have all the same guts... Taking in consideration the format, probably Dido had them either. They performed a dual slot. A hidden 60pin slot is inside the console. However, other clones like the Mx Onda, Pegasus and such, seemed to have similar internal design, despite being different from the other group... And well, the Nevir Master Games was somehow different either... These clones featured cloned chips, later appeared the NOAC ones that resulted to be way worse than the older ones. Ending Man, Polystation, GLK... These are quite crappy. What about the Mattel NES?
I wish we had something like blockbuster or arcades in Germany back then. We had to buy games or hope we had friends they already had the games. The German magazine Total! ( I think you had the same brand in the UK,too) helped us avoiding complete duds fortunately but some games still disappointed us despite high reviews.

That exact metallic antenna/game switch came with most Famicom/Atari 2600 clones, but it was bad, it weakened the antenna signal
