I think the opposite is also true! often when a lip sync is subpar I see people say that the song was an inherently bad for a lip sync, when it just wasn't suited to the performers' strengths. sometimes it's not the song's fault so much as lack of imagination on the part of the fans. but sometimes a song is just genuinely not a great choice for a lip sync despite being a good song, like No Scrubs. I can only really envision someone like Monét or TKB or Sasha Colby killing that one. if I can only picture some of the best performers from the entire franchise doing well with a song, it's probably not a good pick lol

Kennedy gives me chills in that performance, especially at the end the problem with the Green Light lip sync is that Drag Race used a cut of the song that removed all the upbeat and exuberant parts. idk if queens perform to the full version of a song, but if so, maybe Kennedy decided to do a park and bark and then the editors cut out the more uptempo segments. production definitely wanted Kennedy to win the lip sync, since she destroyed the Bitchelor and Milk was up for elim; that whole episode was her Moment on AS3. not saying that Kennedy didn't fairly win the lip sync, just that editor may have used a cut of Green Light that complemented the approach that Kennedy chose, at the expense of the song itself

People definitely need to embrace more of the 80's new wave stuff like you mentioned, so many Duran Duran songs would be amazing to see as lip sync songs, and then throw in stuff like "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads, "Modern Love" or "Let's Dance" by David Bowie, "Drive" by the Cars would be a great ballad, more Queen songs, more George Michael & Wham songs, more Heart songs and definitely some Fleetwood Mac songs (justice for Thorgy as Stevie Nicks). I feel like the early seasons burned viewers out on so many classic 70s dance songs and the really bad late 80s pop that Ru and Michelle love so much that in the newer seasons, a ton of amazing early 80s stuff has been glossed over in favor of Tik Tok trends.
I’ve always wanted some more 80s/90s pop or rock stuff!! One song I think could work really well is Girls and Boys by Blur, I think if given the right character it would be really effective. I hope drag race eventually does branch out into other genres and eras because the older stuff often tends to make for the best lip syncs!

Not you omitting that even Detox has said that they changed the song to Malambo No. 1 just so Jinkx would have a higher chance at beating her, because they heard Jinkx singing it around the filming of this episode. We get it, we like Jinkx, but I cant overlook the fact that she got big help from the show itself both of her seasons and both times it was to impulse her into the win of the crown, is wild. Some weird songs that jump to mind are definitely the vengabus on UKVSTW1 and the Bloody Mary tiktok remix on season 16. Another which I don't know if it was weird but definitely unexpected was No Way on UK4, as a MASSIVE Six the musical fan I was so glad that it was on the show
I think the most iffy one for me is the double sashay to “Shout” by Blondie in UK3. Like, it was so clear that they were just trying to get two queens that they didn’t see going further, which both Choriza and River didn’t deserve. Choriza didn’t even deserve a bottom placement, and River honestly did kind of good, at least as much as you can do with that mess of a song. It’s weird that apparently neither of them showed enough to stay, according to Ru, as even before judging, everyone was living!!!

What you call speed up chimpunk remix is called Nightcore and yeah it was mostly used on Eurodance (especially Cascada) or anime (Touhou’s Bad Apple) songs. Source : listened to a lot of Nightcore in 2007.
I think the problem with doing these kinds of songs are that you need the right performer for it. I have seen a queen do a Slipknot song (I think, I don't know metal but the person I was with said it was) and she killed it. I would hate to see it on Drag Race though. That being said, I would love to see a George Michael song, specifically "Freedom '90," and "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. Both could be great in the right hands.

People definitely need to embrace more of the 80's new wave stuff like you mentioned, so many Duran Duran songs would be amazing to see as lip sync songs, and then throw in stuff like "Life During Wartime" by Talking Heads, "Modern Love" or "Let's Dance" by David Bowie, "Drive" by the Cars would be a great ballad, more Queen songs, more George Michael & Wham songs, more Heart songs and definitely some Fleetwood Mac songs (justice for Thorgy as Stevie Nicks). I feel like the early seasons burned viewers out on so many classic 70s dance songs and the really bad late 80s pop that Ru and Michelle love so much that in the newer seasons, a ton of amazing early 80s stuff has been glossed over in favor of Tik Tok trends.
I’ve always wanted some more 80s/90s pop or rock stuff!! One song I think could work really well is Girls and Boys by Blur, I think if given the right character it would be really effective. I hope drag race eventually does branch out into other genres and eras because the older stuff often tends to make for the best lip syncs!

Here, she was definitely NOT beating Detox to the song that was originally going to be used...and lets not even go into the voiceover of the ending of AS7 after they hyped the shit out of the lipsync tournament being such an important thing the whole season hahahaha. Some weird songs that jump to mind are definitely the vengabus on UKVSTW1 and the Bloody Mary tiktok remix on season 16. Another which I don't know if it was weird but definitely unexpected was No Way on UK4, as a MASSIVE Six the musical fan I was so glad that it was on the show
I think the most iffy one for me is the double sashay to “Shout” by Blondie in UK3. Like, it was so clear that they were just trying to get two queens that they didn’t see going further, which both Choriza and River didn’t deserve. Choriza didn’t even deserve a bottom placement, and River honestly did kind of good, at least as much as you can do with that mess of a song. It’s weird that apparently neither of them showed enough to stay, according to Ru, as even before judging, everyone was living!!!

I don't do drag and don't do any lip syncing beyond what happens in my kitchen, but I also don't listen to a lot of pop music, so there are legitimately times I hear not only popular songs for the first time on Drag Race, but also famous artists for the first time!

One song that I think you missed was the Spanish version of “Hey Mickey” from season 3 where I believe only 3 people on season 3 could be able to lipsync to it, Yara Sofia, Carmen Carrera and Alexis Mateo.
What you call speed up chimpunk remix is called Nightcore and yeah it was mostly used on Eurodance (especially Cascada) or anime (Touhou’s Bad Apple) songs.

I think the problem with doing these kinds of songs are that you need the right performer for it. I have seen a queen do a Slipknot song (I think, I don't know metal but the person I was with said it was) and she killed it. I would hate to see it on Drag Race though. That being said, I would love to see a George Michael song, specifically "Freedom '90," and "Wuthering Heights" by Kate Bush. Both could be great in the right hands.
Emergency is a really fun song for a lip sync and half the girls on S16 could have served it.
