Still loving your awesome playing of “Whispering “. My mom use to play it all the time , but not Stride. I’m now 85 yrs .and hoping to be here to listen to you for a long time yet. You are an excellent Stride Player. Hoping everything is well with you. Didn’t mean just stride. You’re great playing everything. Love Chris ♥️🎶🥀🎶♥️🥰🎼🎹🎶♥️🌴😎
I put this on a loop and listened all while making a painting. I kept thinking I was listening to Erroll Garner. I never heard him play this though. I only heard my dad play it and he was an Erroll Garner fan. So maybe there was some Garner influence in there somewhere? Anyway, it really took me back to a happy place, so thank you!
I love enroll garner but the pianists whose recordings I learn from the most are probably Teddy Wilson and Fats Waller. I encourage you to check them out if you haven't already! thanks for tuning in and keep on painting, Ethan
Just a spectacular left hand. The clever interspersing of walking 10ths, single bass notes coming up to chords, and your voicings in your LH chords and overall efficiency and economy of movement are the reasons you are a true stride master. It's great to see as an older person someone from your generation carrying on the great tradition of the stride masters from the first half of the 20th century. Waller, Johnson, and Wilson to just name a few would be proud.
Yet another great interpretation of a classic which I never get tired of playing. As I have commented before, you have a fantastic collection of unique piano performances which have appeared on UA-cam, including "carry me back to old Virginny", "old rocking chair", "Just a closer walk with thee" and many others. Sadly some of these have disappeared from UA-cam but they are all really too good to be lost forever. You must collect these together and issue them on an album. And please keep playing.
thanks so much, makes me so happy to hear you enjoy my music. Re CDs: I find that people buy CDs at live events but almost not at all online, so I'm going to have to wait till I have gigs again before I invest in a CD. But I hope that day will come soon. If you'd like to be notified when my CD comes out please join my email list: www.uslanmusic.com/contact.html
PLEASE issue a collection of these great youtube performances on a CD. All my friends that I play these numbers to want to buy a copy. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE issue a recording - you have more anxious fans out here than you can imagine.
thanks so much john!! i'll look into it, so glad you are interested. I am indeed thinking of ways to make a buck now that live performances are all getting canceled....CDs might not be a bad idea...so glad you are tuning in and I appreciate your kind words. best wishes, ethan
thanks! and its "grooving high!" (I cheated by googling it though) there's also a patsy cline song called "heartaches" that sounds really similar to whispering.
thanks so much tom! as for the unusual keys, I try to choose a key I can sing along to best. Often, for some reason, that is a weird key. But I have found that although the unusual keys may need getting used to, they are not harder physically. In some cases they are easier!
glad you like it! it takes forever to write down all those notes, maybe I will get around to this one if there's a lot of interest. I have done it with other pieces though: www.uslanmusic.com/store/c2/________________________________________________________Sheet_Music%3A_Instant_Download.html

@@EthanUslan I will be looking out for the CD's. KEEP PLAYING
Great playing, and does anybody know that bebop song that was inspired by the chord changes of Whispering?
thanks! and its "grooving high!" (I cheated by googling it though) there's also a patsy cline song called "heartaches" that sounds really similar to whispering.
2:08 Handful of Keys?
yeah man, I only steal from the best :-)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I think you Are very good. And you select some difficult Keys every time. Not easy, but it sounds very easy when listening to you.
