And welcome to this walk around the wonderful West Lancashire market town of Ormskirk, famously a home of gingerbread making, an entirely unique parish church, a stopping-off point on the route between the cities of Liverpool and Preston, and many more captivating stories! There's a lot to unpack on a walk around Ormskirk, but one thing we didn't mention is that, perhaps surprisingly, Ormskirk is nowadays a university town! On the outskirts of the town centre, you'll find Edge Hill University, one of England's fastest-growing universities, with over 13,000 students that add to the buzz in Ormskirk's captivating town centre!
I did an ancestry test recently and it was discovered from my paternal great grandmother that I have a boat load of ancestors from this lovely little town so I stumbled upon this video and I am very impressed! Lovely buildings, lots of history, the streets are very clean and everybody is white (hopefully it stays this way). It looks fantastic. Me and my family will be visiting soon and we look forward to trying some of the famous gingerbread. This was such a fantastic video mate. See you soon Ormskirk!
I have just visited Ormskirk unfortunately before your very informative video. I must return! Anyways, I highly recommend to anyone visiting and walking through the Church Walk, to call at Bramleys Coffee House.Friendly staff, great food and very pleasant place to spend awhile. Toilets and more seating upstairs. Recommend the bacon bap. Very reasonable prices and an all day breakfast if required.
Impressive, I stayed with the Dorman’s ruff lane in 1993 for a year in town and in those days I wasn’t t aware of all the Allie’s and by paths, though I remember having been in the Railroad, best wishes to Geoffrey, Eliza I. - Paradise Lost, we had the knowledge but missed the meaning, still remember you.
So much of the history of this town totally missed here, Heritage Walks begin on May 9th, 1.30 from the Clock Tower, ( which did not replace the Market Cross at all),
Ormskirk is not the Ormskirk I was born in. The council along with Edge Hill university and its students and their greedy landlords have wrecked Ormskirk
Yes I did notice a lot of the younger people on this video were your typical leftist/student looking type. Still a place with great heritage though and to be proud of.
