The pendant cutter you have is the thread cutter. They have a yarn cutter pendant with less grooves but thicker grooves to fit the yarn. Love your enthusiasm!
Every craft needs its own “sewing box” there are so many tiny things I use to crochet with: stitch markers, safety eyes, scissors, crochet hooks, darning needles, needle threaders, measuring tape, stitch gauges, etc. the tiny pieces for the hook holder are simply more of those tiny pieces. I have t8ny ziploc bags and sectioned organizers I put in a sewing box. All my stuff is in one place. Less loss. Lesson learned at almost 70 years of age.
Be careful wearing your yarn cutter pendant in the car. It can cut little notches in your seatbelt if you aren't paying attention. Don't ask me how I know. 😅

The cord-maker is the modern version of a classic German "Strickliesel". We would always use these as kids and make random cords that never got used just for the sake of it, lmaoo. Childhood core memories
We used these "spool knitters" when I was a kid. Originally, some nails were banged into the end of a wooden thread spool or a facsimile.
Oh I had a mushroom shaped one as a kid! In dutch we call them a "punnikklos". I made so many of those da,n cords and never did a thing with them 😅
I'm Hungarian and I also loved it as a kid! In Hungarian it's called körmöcske which means "little (finger)nail".
You can actually get ones you just thread up and turn a wee handle and it does it for you. The technique is considered knitting rather than crochet where I am but still a great addition to any project. x

That eye threader is awesome!
The darning needle threading hack I use is... Dental floss! Take a length of floss, and fold in half. Thread the loop through the darning needle. Thread your yarn through the floss loop, and then pull the floss back through the darning needle and the yarn pops right through! Super quick and easy, and practically free!
The blue and green handle is amazing! It really helps with hand pain.It’s easy to use once you have changed the hook a few times. ❤❤
It is also called a French Knitter. I had one as a child and it was made with a wooden cotton reel and four nail's. It can take a bit of hard work to learn. But once you get started, it is lots of fun.
I think it's the same as a "knitting Nancy" that we have. I'm in Australia, not sure if it's a region thing
You should review the Susan Bates finishing needles, they're these weird plastic needles that are pretty much all "eye" - I personally love them and will never go back, but I wonder what others think
Cheer!!I was just coming to the comments to recommend Susan Bates finishing needles! They are an absolute game changer for finishing and like you I love them, have gifted them to all my fiber friends and won’t go back to regular needles for crochet/knit sewing!
I've had a Clover brand version of the yarn cutter for about 20 years. The notches are a little bigger so bulky/jumbo yarn isn't a problem. I keep mine on a little carabiner so I can clip it to my project bags 😊
I crocheted pencil style for years and then I found that the steak knife form really helped me to get into a better flow and have more comfort with my work.❤

The blue/green ergo handle is my favorite handle above everything I’ve used, and yes, counter clockwise aka Lefty Loosy undoes it easily. I struggled at first too, and yes, you need to save the back for later sizing of the washers. I keep mine with the washers in a sandwich bag in my yarn drawer.
The 'fairy' hooks are so pretty! You could even wear them as hairpins maybe
Believe it or not, when I was 5 (1990) my Nanny made me one of these with a toilet paper roll and popsicle sticks and i made hell long cords with it until the novelty wore off lol.

That’s not true, I flew with mine just fine. I wear mine as a pendant. I have the clover one, and it cuts any yarn I’ve used so far and I like working with the plushy big ones.

I use my french knitter to make the stems of crochet plants. Super easy to put a wire through to shape!

The purple and green hook handle has a hollow cavity in the bottom part. That is a storage area for the extra “grips” for hook sizes.

On the green and blue ergonomic handle, two of the washers are sized backwards. I have 5 of these handles. I keep the washers and the cut out of the colors and sizing in a prescription bottle.
The cord tool is pretty nifty, but you can also crochet an I-cord, and it's really fun!

The chunky boy handle is good for people with pain, and it's low tech. I think it's sold out but i heard the owner is working on increasing production.

THis is my favoriteeee series!! And I've seen those hooks and am super tempted to buy just to try them myself. It's funny because normally I prefer to not have my arm resting, and I know it's worse for me, but I HATE crocheting on. a table. I'm glad you liked theem!
I love the Boye handle, I have been using mine for years (according to amazon I bought mine back in 2016). I just bouhght a spare, so I have more of the washers. I store the washers in the handle when I’m nit using it at all - or in an old film container (yep, remember when camera film came in rolls of 12-24-36 in a black and grey container)
I’ve had mine for ages. I haven’t seen them at Michael’s in a long time but I think I got my original Boye set from there and the hook colors matched 😅
I have the hook handle and also struggled to get it apart on the first use! It does get easier from there onward, to the point where sometimes it pops open when I drop it in the floor 😂 but to crochet with it’s so good, I love how it fits in my hand.
The wonder knitter is a plastic version of the knitting dolly I had as a child in the early 1950s. It was made from a wooden cotton reel and four nails. Then it was possible to get one that looked like wooden doll. I still have one of the dollies in my crochet basket. 😊😊😊

Oh my God! I never comment on videos really but had to comment on this as I have had the fairy looking hooks for about 7 or 8 years and so amazed that you reviewed them 😊 I love mine and always go back to using them after trying out some other hooks. They were my first crochet hook set when I first started and bought them because they are really beautiful. I agree that they are long and also kind of annoying that the sizes have rubbed off too but I can work out which one is which easy enough. I'm wanting to buy a new set as mine are quite well worn now but struggling to find them again. Love all the other things you have been reviewing too 😊
I'm also a knife grip crocheter 🤓. I agree -that pendant yarn cutter would be much more convenient if it came with a triangular "ring" for putting it onto a chain, or keyring 😁. That's called I-cord that the fun tool makes. I just made my niece a cord, of crochet cotton, to put a beautiful {IMO}glass ring onto as a necklace. That would have made it way faster and easier than knitting with thread 🧵 in essence. 😮😅 If ya use a DBL pointed needle & don't turn, just slide like 3 or 4 stitches to your working end of the needle... you get I-cord 😊.
Also a hack for threading your needles: if you have a stray piece of paper (I’ve used a post office receipt in a pinch), cut it to where it’s thin enough to fit into the eye of the needle and wrap it around your yarn. Always works because it keeps everything from fraying while you try to squeeze the yarn through. I think I saw that on Instagram or something and it changed my life lol
Clover (brand) makes the yarn cutter. Legal for airplanes. I tend to keep it on a keychain or in my tin with hooks.
The egg is a must-have for me - my smallest hook is 0.25mm and ridiculously hard to hold. Put the little rubber gaskets in with your stitch markers. ;)
I weave as I stitch - typically only have to sew in the final tail or sewing tails for amigurumi (which is easy because I stab the critters).
You finishing an icord with so much joy was the best ever. Wonder knitter is a nifty gadget and less intimidating for crocheters than trying to take up knitting.
Thank you for noting stuff for folx with nerve damage. So many gizmos are rated without the less-abled in mind. If you have nerve damage or strength issues, carpel tunnel, etc, a lot of that stuff gets overlooked with all the sensational as-seen-on-tv type hacks. I'm sorry you have to deal with those nerve issues, and appreciative that you think of them in your ratings. This video made me like & subscribe. The cutter that you have is actually for thread, it was used a lot for taking on planes when they would not allow scissors. As for the wonder knitter - I have had one of those for years. They are fantastic, not only can you make a cord - you can also make flat knitting. I also made jewellery with wire and beads. It really is so much fun.
The unique thing about the Wonder Knitter is how it spins, so that you don't have to turn it in your hand. And yes, making bracelets with wire and beads (or elastic and beads) is so nice. I should make some more, thank you for reminding me of that.
I got that ergonomic handle because even though I'm young, I already have arthritic hands (hereditary). I prefer to crochet with thinner yarn and crochet thread, but the steel hooks hurt my hands. With the handle, I can crochet for a lot longer. I also am a tight crocheter (I actually broke a bamboo hook 😅), so it helps with that too.

I have a pendant yarn cutter made by Clover but the spiral thingies are larger to cut thicker yarn. I used to have a Clover thread cutter that was the size of your yarn cutters. I don't have a chain to put it on but when I was putting my crochet project away I saw a shawl pin aka stitch holder and thought voila! It can hold my yarn cutter because I'm always losing it.

I definitely don't need more hooks but... These whimsical looking ones caught my attention. I always crotchet in my bed and I like it, when the hooks are a bit longer than usual. 🤔
When doing lacey thread crochet, I use the pencil hold. It allows easier movement of the hook tip.
With larger yarn, or sticky yarn, I will use the knife hold when I need more strength to pull the yarn through stiches.

I think The pendant is originally for sewing and embroidery threads so maybe that’s why it didn’t do thick yarn
You need to try the Susan bates finishing needles. The eye of the needle is almost the length of the body. They also come in a pack of 5. I saw them in a video and they are a game changer!

I love the boyd ergo egg. I have two of them. I keep the color codes and sizers in a small tin.
I had the same problem with the hook handle the first time. Very difficult to open the first time but way easier each time after.

You should try a gaming pillow! its pretty much like a giant u shaped pillow that goes on you lap and like sits on your hips. It might help with your positioning for crochet to not hurt as much.

Great video!!! I also hold my crochet hook with what people refer to as the knife grip BUT I always call it the “wand grip” because it is also how I would hold a wand. I may be in my late 40s but I will always be a faerie, cottage-y, Ren Faire girl so I say I’m making crochet magic with my wand grip! 😂

knife holder here. I've GOT to get those fairy crochet hooks. I usually use wood hooks, metal is really hard on my hands.
My bulb handle is my most used crochet item. Unfortunately you can’t use it with Susan bates hooks because the neck is a bit too short. Sometimes I feel in the mood for those hooks but the wide grip is so helpful to reduce hand pain

You mentioned your nerve pain. I have seen crocheters/knitters/gamers/readers etc use a Valari pillow or a large Boppy Pillow. They put it around their waist and rest their arms on the pillow. The problem for me is price. Valari are 2-3 times more than the Boppy.

Another great cord maker is a Lucet.
Oh yes! (Yay fellow Lucet user). Lucet cord is good for when you want a cord which is solid and *not* stretchy. And now that I think of it, using a Lucet is a bit like a fidget-toy too.
Welcome to loom knitting. Also, did you know that there is such a thing as a crochet stitch for knitting looms? I mean I literally just found out yesterday, but you may want to invest in a set of knitting looms, just to switch up how you are using your hands for projects. :)
I don’t know if you’ve tried them or not but Susan Bates makes finishing needles that are life changing when it comes to weaving in ends. They’re open like beading needles. I have nerve damage and I honestly don’t think I could crochet without my Boye ergonomic handle. I think yours might have been stuck. Keep your gaskets on your crochet hooks.❤
In Germany the wonder knitter ist called "Strickliesl" ❤ it's a normal gadchet for kids or adults ^^ but mostly it has 4 "pins" to put the yarn over.
I bet you could use that cord maker tool thingy to make a starting chain. It would help with preventing the shape of your project becoming lop sided.
Look up viking knit in wire. You can do it with yarn as well. It may be faster than using the cord maker and you don't need fancy tools.

For a nice crochet cord you can try this: start with a slipknot, leaving a tail about 2 to three times as long as you want your cord to be.
Chain 1. Now fold your end tail over your hook, going from front to back. This creates a second loop on your hook. Yarn over with your working end and pull through both loops. Continue like this to make your cord. Create a second loop with the tail end every time and "chain" through both loops.

Those crochet hooks look very similar to one specific ergnomic lockpick set, I think they’d work best with the pencil grip, the grip thats used to hold lockpicks!

Try crocheting with the long hooks in an office chair with arms. There's no table to get in the way and your arms are supported. Ps try putting the rings for the ergonomic holder on a carabiner

There's a tip that I use to thread yarn onto needles, if you fold it around the eye of the needle and then pull it off squish the fold and wiggle it into the eye of the needle (idk if that makes any sense) but yeah that's how I thread it on, it's very helpful

Though as someone new to crochet and worried a little about just how much it's taken over my life, hearing "I've been dealing with nerve damage in my arm from crocheting too much in the past couple years.... so I'm always up for trying new crochet hooks" hit different 😰 I hope you're ok! And I'm starting to worry that this hobby is not the safer alternative to whittling that I thought it was.
Wellll, you aren't likely to cut yourself crocheting... so I think it is still safer than whittling. The danger in crocheting lies in doing it for hours on end without a break... which could probably happen with whittling too...
i have entrapped nerves in both arms from crocheting, might need surgery :( i'm autistic + crochet became my hyperfixation, don't binge crochet. the 'crocheting for 24 hours' challenges make it seem fine but the damage repetitive strain does is devastating. i can't do shit, typing this hurts. take care + be responsible, avoid this nightmare

@bec7704, have you tried the carpal tunnel wrist braces?
They are more meant to be used when sleeping to keep your wrist in a neutral position and allow your muscles and nerves to recover.
Repetitive stress injuries do sneak up on uou (like hearing loss). Using a timer to ensure that you have rest and recovery periods is helpful.
Edit: I have a touch of carpal tunnel from lots of keyboarding in the 1990's. The wrist brace at night is helpful to me.
@@fredericapanon207 i was using wrist braces a lot to prevent carpal tunnel but instead i got cubital tunnel. i sleep in elbow splints now but i probably need surgery to release the ulnar nerves, it's only getting worse. it's devastating, i'm only 24 :(

I love my Boye ergonomic handle, but i do notice that the little washers sometimes wear out and crack with use. I ended up buying a really cheap set of foam handle grips and cutting them shorter to fit inside, and it worked just as well. Make the product last longer for a few extra dollars!
