5:15 I honestly hear many times rotor spinning as a complaint. I honestly like the feeling and sound myself as it's a reminder I own a mechanical watch. :)
Used to be Divers all day long but recently converted to team GADA. My SARB033 and PRX have been dominating the wrist space. Keep doing what you're doing Jody, top work
These go on sale the day after my birthday and I've had them bookmarked since I first heard about them. This video is a cherry on top. I've never liked a video this fast in my life. I'm so happy Maen sent one (specifically this color) to you in time to see before ordering. All the colors look great and I've been torn between two or three. This helps tremendously. Great stuff as always Dr. Jody!
Is there a bit of an optical illusion here or is it just me? In some shots the center links of the bracelet look like they are gold plated (especially in wrist rolls) but in others they look silver. Oh, and my "type" seems to be aviation watches, have three of them now - the ET Type-B, the ET chrono-flieger and a Hamilton "cooper". Love them all!
Pre-ordered mine today with the discount. I couldn't resist that ATC.06 salmon dial and I've been moving towards smaller watches as I get on in age, no more dinner plates on my wrist. This is slightly smaller in dimensions from my CW C63, albeit slightly thicker. Looking forward to getting this on my wrist. I actually wish they didn't put lume on this one as I am planning on this being more of my dress watch. I think the premium movement helps justify the higher price and with that discount, it's just under $600.
Normally divers.. But lately I'm loving the WW2 style like the ones from Timeworn. Cathedral hand set.. old radium lume.. those beautiful numerals. I think that will be my next style.
Oh my GOD - I've been looking for an "Ordnance Department" watch like my grandfathers, with cathedral hands, for YEARS. I had never heard of Timeworn, but there it is! Thank you SO much!
Yeah, I was with you right up too £$600. Not a bad watch but you have to climb over alot of other cheaper watches to get there, Maen is losing that "Micro"status tho, just thro sticking around and delivering decent stuff.
My horological type is a black dial, black bezel dive watch made of Titanium! I'm wearing one as I type this. I love dive watches and I love everything about Titanium. It's a perfect match! My dream watch is a Rolex Submariner in Titanium.
Not gonna buy this but more 36s, yes please! Even 35s are great. A Man’s watch used to be 31mm, sometimes even less - and they still look amazing! I’ll keep going vintage in the meantime.
Late viewing today but I did get a bonus Girard-Perregaux ad before the main event. I do have a watch with the clasp male/female in the same orientation as this Maen and didn't realise it wasn't normal so I guess it's what you get used to. I'm not a chrono guy so I tend not to go for multiple sub dials and I wouldn't go for this day/month subdial and standard date layout - if i couldn't remember the month I doubt I would know where I left my watch or where I lived and maybe not care. Having said that I do like day/date subdials, à la Presage SPB305J1, admittedly quite a bit more expensive but if it passed the now compulsory individual example Seiko QC check to me I think it worth the extra given the Seiko dial.
I am with you on this, short lug to lug GADA watch on a jubilee all day long! Enough with the dive watches already. Gorgeous piece. Two niggles for me however, 50 m WR and less than impressive lume. Cheers.
I know it's going to be a good day when I can start it by watching a new JOMW video! Nice watch, although it's a little out of reach now because of tax season. 😢 I do like the smaller size. I have some large watches in my collection, but lately, I've been attracted more to the smaller sizes (which were more standard sizes 40 years ago). Another great review! Thanks Jody!
That is a lovely watch Jody. However my horological type is a 44mm dive watch or chronograph. I found that out when I bought a lovely 37mm Orient Star and I felt it didn't look right on my 8.1" wrist and my wife said it didn't suit me either. She wears it now. 42-45mm are my parameters. I'd love this one in 42!!
Thanks for covering this one Jody! I’ve had this on my radar since it was announced. Just an FYI, Maen stated that the watches are assembled in Switzerland, but don’t qualify for the label like their other watches because of the Japanese movement 👍🏻
I love the T-shirt. Brazil has long been one of my favorite films. Now I'm wondering if any of the characters wore watches, and if so, what they were. Guess I'll have to file a 14q/7 with Information Retrieval to find out.
Jody Jody Jody. Iv been missing the first couple comments recently. The citizen nb-1050 is the seiko sarb alternative you have been looking for. It’s an improvement in every aspect. Maybe a “ten round” head to head even. Admittedly the bracelet doesn’t have half links but it’s small light and has micro adjustment. Also duratech coating. Iv been able to dent it but scratches are hard to come by.
Neat watch, I just can’t really hop on board for the triple calendar, it offers about as much utility as a 24 hr indicator. Who needs to be reminded of what month it is??
I literally thought damn why spoil this by making it a chrono, but then noticed the sub dials were date dials, very clever and a complications I can get behind.
I’ve been looking for a nice jubilee watch that doesn’t look like an OP/DJ homage. Calendar complication and 36mm to boot! Very tempting will have to look at the colors
Like this watch a lot in terms of styling, but im in the 36mm is too small camp! It just looked tiny from the wrist shots to me. The 50m water resistance is less of an issue with it being on the dressier side though, but if you’re gonna apply lume make it decent or I’d rather not have it at all
I like most types of watches but dive watches are my favourite but it could be Casio with lots of features to play with then again it may be Mechanical to take me back to the age of Steam let’s face it I just love watches that is probably why I have all types in my collection
I've got a jubilee style pin and collar bracelet, hollow end links too. You'd hate it but so far its lasted about 40 years, the watch it came on let the water in so hasn't.
Zodiac uses pin and collar in at least some of their bracelets. Case in point, my Super Sea Wolf on a butterfly jubilee. It was a extremely annoying to size 😑
Afraid I'm one of "THOSE guys" who won't go down to 36mm. (Partly because of my 7 3/4 inch wrist, partly because of my aging eyes). But I like the looks of this! Not sure I NEED the month on the dial, but I wouldn't mind having one. I also have recently become a fan of chronograph style dials, and this fills that look without being just another chrono in my collection. Make it a 40, and I might be on board....
The Maen is a terrific looking watch. However, for a guy with 8 inch wrists, 36mm is a non-starter. Some 40mm look like I'm wearing a dime on my wrist. This would barely cover a small bundle of hair on my wrist. However, thanks for a great review. Ciao!
I favour small field/military and gada watches so I was initially attracted to this one when I got the e-mail a couple of days ago. The price is what put me off - 100 euro less and I've be ordering one.
For me it's got to have a screw down crown, decent WR and lume to stay on my wrist for any length of time. My dress watch never gets left on but my work watch, a diver with tritium often stays on over rest days!
Think its quite lovely. Maen always make a nice watch. The finishing has always been a little bit of a weakness especially the bracelets. If they make the required improvements there, with their designs they certainly justify being a pricier micro.
I wanted to like their Maen Hudson 38 Mark I. so much, but as the honeymoon wore off I was just left with a subpar quality watch at a not insignificant price. Great style, design though, I gotto give them that!
Great as always. Thanks for the video. I like time only (no date) super legible divers with a bezel that doesn't distract my eyes. Tudor BB Ceramic has been perfect for me for a GADA in this regard. I have seen a couple others including a Unimatic that ticks these boxes.
Im getting 80’s Ebel vibes- not loving the silver gold black aesthetics and the dauphine hands seem dated compared to the rest. I like the copper one most. Love a jubilee strap though so that's a plus. mot my fave….
I can tell you I owned a jubilee designed for my Orient Mako. Great Value @ $39 Solid Links, Solid End Links, Milled Clasp ... BUT!! >>> Pin and Collar 😭
Off topic a bit, though fits my "GADA", it's always R Explorer and T Ranger, but never O Railmater, why? Had two average Railmaster homages, like the design, but no SteelDive, Pagani, San Martin,...Just an unpopular watch design?
would you be able to do some long term reviews please?. all these micro brands and chinese brands are great but it would be great to hear how you feel after 6 months/1 year of ownership and use. for example, have you had any that you have kept and serviced or is the expectation to just throw them away and buy another one?
Interesting thoughts on the butterfly clasp, I see the way Maen have it as most intuitive to be honest. The first watch I had with a butterfly clasp was a Tissot but it was on a leather strap, so you had to push head side down first so you could then push tail side through the strap keepers as you clip it in. I suppose after that, it just seemed normal that way and all my other butterfly clasps have no overlap so it made no difference… different strokes and all that! 🤷🏻♂️😂
big fan of this but i can‘t with the "pre-order", I'm renting and moving in 2 months and haven't decided where to go, i don't know what to write for the delivery address.......
great looking watch. I haven't been a big fan of chrono looking watches with date on the subdials, but nowadays I'm perfectly fine with them. it's still extra functionality, and I'm a sucker for chronographs so it's a win-win
For the price I'd save up a little longer and get the Skymaster. I bought one second hand for less than they ask for this. It's an ETA 2894-2 chronograph (so no Valjoux thickness), 38mm and just as versatile as this one. To me, this looks like a watch that tries a little too hard to look like a sixties chrono.
You know there was another watch that utilizes the same movement but actually adds a 24-hour dial complication. So essentially it's a triple date with a 24-hour dial and that watches 100-meter water-resistant and that one is no other than the Vincero Reserve automatic
Great video. I am curious about the lug to lug. Maen lists it at 46 mm on their website and your video lists it at 44.8 mm. Can you confirm which one is correct?
I do like Maen’s new GMT’s a whiff of Rolex but different enough so that it’s not an out and out homage. Not 100% on the chrono style of this one with the subdials just yet!
Seiko really just need to reintroduce a SARB-type watch again. A DressKX with sapphire crystal straight from the factory, with a nice jubilee and boom. Done.
Maen kinda tick the boxes spec wise but I have had a couple including the Hudson mk IV and was underwhelmed. Like phoibos the dials are lacking in depth.
Thanks for the review! For those wondering, half links are available on request :)
5:15 I honestly hear many times rotor spinning as a complaint. I honestly like the feeling and sound myself as it's a reminder I own a mechanical watch. :)
Me with the loud Timex click (believe me, its LOUD compared to other quartz movements!)
Used to be Divers all day long but recently converted to team GADA. My SARB033 and PRX have been dominating the wrist space. Keep doing what you're doing Jody, top work
It’s gotten to the point I like the video before I even watch it. But I take it back if there’s no Lume. Good morning.
Thanks mate!! 👍
These go on sale the day after my birthday and I've had them bookmarked since I first heard about them. This video is a cherry on top. I've never liked a video this fast in my life. Love my Maen watch! I think a two-tone version of this model would look pretty cool
Me too - I just picked up a Hamilton Pilot Pioneer, and I really dig it. Stylish and very comfortable.
Yeah, I was with you right up too £$600. Not a bad watch but you have to climb over alot of other cheaper watches to get there, Maen is losing that "Micro"status tho, just thro sticking around and delivering decent stuff.
the maen hudson 38 gmt in the rootbeer color looks really good! I might have to buy it when it is released
My horological type is a black dial, black bezel dive watch made of Titanium! I'm wearing one as I type this. I love dive watches and I love everything about Titanium. It's a perfect match! My dream watch is a Rolex Submariner in Titanium.
Thanks Jody for review but I have never been a fan of the MAEN logo on the dial. They really need to put some effort into sorting their logo out
Agreed! Their logo is lazy. It can be better.
Absolutely love the styling, but wish they had 40 mm size as an option.
I like the straightforward styling of their catalog, but everything they make is 38 and under. I still consider 39-40 a universal sweet spot
Not gonna buy this but more 36s, yes please! Even 35s are great. A Man’s watch used to be 31mm, sometimes even less - and they still look amazing! I’ll keep going vintage in the meantime.
Agree on the crystal - most of my recent buys have top hat sapphire. Prefer flat or double domed without the additional height.
The green-dial would make a fantastic dress watch.
Thank you for review. I agree 36 mm is nice size. I like.
Late viewing today but I did get a bonus Girard-Perregaux ad before the main event. I do have a watch with the clasp male/female in the same orientation as this Maen and didn't realise it wasn't normal so I guess it's what you get used to. My 'type' is field/instrument/tool watch (in 38mm please) so this one is a touch too 'dress' to really float my boat. Not bad though.
That's an absolute stunner! Not the biggest fan of the sub dials without the chrono
Nicely styled watch - but for a calendar-focused watch, I love the Citizen perpetual calendar models. Truly set and forget👍
I only own a single butterfly clasp watch, but I definitely close it the other way round from you, so the Maen clasp would be fine for me!
It's to ieniemienie for me! My latest purchase is the Steeldive SD1951S......😬
I have a 7.5” wrist and was surprised how small the Pelagos 39 looked on my wrist. 40mm is bare minimum for me
Thanks for covering this one Jody! I’ve had this on my radar since it was announced. Just an FYI, Maen stated that the watches are assembled in Switzerland, but don’t qualify for the label like their other watches because of the Japanese movement 👍🏻
Love GADA watches, vintage sports watches and skin divers! ☺️
Wow that is a beautiful watch to look at! I may have to add one down the line...
It’s refreshing to have a brand making sub 40 mm watches. My watches are mostly 40 mm and more. Moving forward, I’m going smaller.
Nice sharp lines on the case, bezel and endlinks
I love the T-shirt. Brazil has long been one of my favorite films. Now I'm wondering if any of the characters wore watches, and if so, what they were. Guess I'll have to file a 14q/7 with Information Retrieval to find out.

That champagne dial is nice looking! Maen makes some cool watches. If it was a 38 that would be perfect.
This reminds me of the Kurono Calendrier Type 1! Love it that more brands are doing it
Neat watch, I just can’t really hop on board for the triple calendar, it offers about as much utility as a 24 hr indicator. Who needs to be reminded of what month it is??
I literally thought damn why spoil this by making it a chrono, but then noticed the sub dials were date dials, very clever and a complications I can get behind.
Thanks for the review. Nice looking watch. I prefer smaller and lighter watches and prefer chronos so I do like the Maen.
I’ve been looking for a nice jubilee watch that doesn’t look like an OP/DJ homage. Calendar complication and 36mm to boot! Very tempting will have to look at the colors
My type is the Dive watch, every day, all day. Form AND function.
Like this watch a lot in terms of styling, but im in the 36mm is too small camp! It just looked tiny from the wrist shots to me. The 50m water resistance is less of an issue with it being on the dressier side though, but if you’re gonna apply lume make it decent or I’d rather not have it at all
Morning! Thanks for the video and review. A bit too small for me, but if they made 40/20 I'd be very interested!
If I had to choose the one aspect of a watch that I like best is if it has a PVD or DLC black case. After that I like field, diver or flieger watches.
I like most types of watches but dive watches are my favourite but it could be Casio with lots of features to play with then again it may be Mechanical to take me back to the age of Steam let’s face it I just love watches that is probably why I have all types in my collection
Any idea when the watch is going to be released?
My old TAG Heuer 1000 Submariner homage (I got it in 1988) has a jubilee bracelet with pins instead of screws and yes it's a nightmare to resize.
It looks great
Love the tee. Once had a cat called Tuttle named after himself.
My fav is a dress-sportish type, like omega seamaster aqua terra
Afraid I'm one of "THOSE guys" who won't go down to 36mm. (Partly because of my 7 3/4 inch wrist, partly because of my aging eyes). But I like the looks of this! love the black and gray color scheme, and it admittedly looks great.... but it's too highly priced for what it is, imo
My ‘rule of SARB’ states, and watch costing more than my SARB033 must be better enough to justify the price, or to have a place in the watch box.
I own 3 Sarbs. Haven't bought anything for 3 years. Why bother? Stick with some (future) classics and stop wasting money on micro brands.
It's raining Maen, hallelujah
the copper 1 looks cool
That copper dial is nice
I favour small field/military and gada watches so I was initially attracted to this one when I got the e-mail a couple of days ago. The price is what put me off - 100 euro less and I've be ordering one.
Word on the street is watch sizes this season is heading to a smaller unit...... so this could sell well, be interesting to see.
For me it's got to have a screw down crown, decent WR and lume to stay on my wrist for any length of time. My dress watch never gets left on but my work watch, a diver with tritium often stays on over rest days!
They really should redesign their logo. It looks like a finished slideshow with a title added at the last minute
Think its quite lovely. Maen always make a nice watch. The finishing has always been a little bit of a weakness especially the bracelets. If they make the required improvements there, with their designs they certainly justify being a pricier micro.
Very nice. Leans dressy, but 36mm at nearly 13mm thick is a bit of a puck. Also, why Brooklyn?
I was liking it until saw the day of the week and month subdials; who are these for, turtles? Sloths?
I wanted to like their Maen Hudson 38 Mark I. so much, but as the honeymoon wore off I was just left with a subpar quality watch at a not insignificant price. Great style, design though, I gotto give them that!

Too small for me but pretty. It looks like the bead at the 9 o’clock minute track is misaligned with the indice.
I love field watches and G-Shock seem to be my type
50m kills it for me, I like the brushed bezel, but the crystal is aking for a smack. I see San Martin has a new on the fly adjustable clasp also.
I hope the green dial isn't sold out instantly. Beautiful watch
would you be able to do some long term reviews please?. all these micro brands and chinese brands are great but it would be great to hear how you feel after 6 months/1 year of ownership and use. for example, have you had any that you have kept and serviced or is the expectation to just throw them away and buy another one?
bonus poins for the size
Interesting thoughts on the butterfly clasp, I see the way Maen have it as most intuitive to be honest.

This is amazing!
My type is divers for sure. Would love to see your thoughts on the Maen Manhattan sometime. I keep almost buying that one.
big fan of this but i can‘t with the "pre-order", I'm renting and moving in 2 months and haven't decided where to go, i don't know what to write for the delivery address.......
Send it to my address 😀
great looking watch.
Plus on top of that that watch has a sapphire sandwich. It's honestly one of the most highly spect out highly constructive watches
nice watch... 36 just to small for me.... cheers
Love the channel. Im still waiting for you to review a Casio HDA 600B 1BV. Cheap casio for analog guys. Almost a g shock
How well is it regulated-10 to 30 sec per day is too loose
My favourite is Seiko presage open heart
Sarb killer💣 = Christopher Ward Sealander. IMHO. :)
I love the scene of you googleing "pretty Swedish girl" and "handsome male model" to make this video 😂
For that price it's an easy pass. Looks ok though and nice dimensions. Not a fan of those clasps also
Great video. I am curious about the lug to lug. Maen lists it at 46 mm on their website and your video lists it at 44.8 mm. Can you confirm which one is correct?
Is that a Brazil shirt? If so, amazing!
I do love a "value priced" watch 😁
I do like Maen’s new GMT’s a whiff of Rolex but different enough so that it’s not an out and out homage. Not 100% on the chrono style of this one with the subdials just yet!
I am team GADA all the way! But I also love the white ones.
Ha ha, Harry Tuttle... or was that Buttle?
Seiko really just need to reintroduce a SARB-type watch again. A DressKX with sapphire crystal straight from the factory, with a nice jubilee and boom. Done.
Maen kinda tick the boxes spec wise but I have had a couple including the Hudson mk IV and was underwhelmed. Like phoibos the dials are lacking in depth.
Do I have a type? Errr... *looks nervously at my 6 pepsi dive watches*
