- I have been riding the new Rockshox Super-deluxe Ultimate for a while now through various conditions and terrain, here are my thoughts on the next gen bouncy bits from the big R
Watching this because I just put mine on. My god it’s butter and that red spring just fucking pops.
Just back from my first ride with a Super Deluxe Select Coil and I must say: it really is a different bike and it‘s awesome!
Best invest so far!
I also habe the E+ 2 model and Rodung it with 25% sag on a 450 coil because of pedal strikes. Looking for shorter cranks now to raise the sag. Flip chip on low - feels better in my opinion.
Coil? Absolutely! Love it - and the red color ;)
I've never struggled with pedal strikes so I have the stock length cranks, one thing though is the HBO helps with that.
Any recommendations on how to reach the rebound dial as it‘s pretty hard to adjust…
@@Meisenking you should be able to get at it with your fingers but if not then try a 2mm hex key. Do you have the dial to the front or back?
To the front. The hex key worked… I could have thought of it myself ;)
i just got one too! i was trying to get about 30% sag, w/ a 400# spring i only got 28% and w/ a 350# spring i got 33%
so - enter Sprindex - now i can adjust the spring rate without giving up any sensitivity. this shock has it all.. the HBO is a damn good feature.
had to give up the lockout switch b/c my carbon spindrift frame won't allow the switch to move into "lock". guess i don't climb much anyway, on a park bike. ;)
Yeah the hbo makes a huge difference, I have a ttx22m.2 ohlins on my other bike and you notice the lack of hbo
I just one for my 2023 propain tyee. The difference!!! It’s truly night and day. It feels so planted around corners and I don’t feel the rear end slipping like I did with air shocks.
They really are a great shock, and such a good price compared to other brands
Awesome, well done. I will get a coil when I get some spare cash. Defo.
Just put this on my 2023 Marin Rift Zone 2. Keeping the stock RockShox air shock as a backup for when I have to service the RC2T
How are you liking it?
Haha i just found your Channel after typing in reign e+2 , and watched your review, and raised the question on that video how would this bike go with the coil .
I’m 60 and ready for an ebike now , and I’m looking at the e+2 ( probably 2023 ) and adding a coil and maybe a new set of wheels
Thanks Cam
The coil goes great, really changed the bike and I have a wheel set review coming in the next few days 😊.
Interesting to hear your thoughts. I’m on the point of pulling the trigger on one for my Megatower.
It really is worth the change, I have just fitted an Ohlins coil to my Jekyll, I would certainly find it hard to go back to air again.
@@PedalhoundsTV can you compare the ohlins to the rockshox please? rockshox is almost 3 times cheaper than the ohlins. best price is 344 euros for the rockshox and 930 for the ohlins! insane diference.
@@joaocorreia7518 I would most definitely pick the Rockshox over the Ohlins every single time.
Don't get me wrong here, the Ohlins is a great shock but the Rockshox is insanely good, I can't wait until they make one for the Jekyll.
The super deluxe is heavier though but that is mainly down to the spring, but that means the springs are cheaper so it won't break the bank if you have to buy a couple to get the rate you want.
@@PedalhoundsTV cheers
Love to have this fitted on my Slash Mr. Gary...
It's a fantastic shock mate, worth every penny
@@PedalhoundsTV nice feedback Mr. Gary. Must start to save for.it.
Hi PedalHounds! Did you have some problems with the regulater botton and the frame? I don´t know if it´s better reverse the regulater to look to back... I bought a super deluxe coil and I have this reign e+ and I have this dude! Thanks! And Nice to meet you.😊😊😊
Hi
No problem with it although it is a little hard to get your fingers in to adjust the rebound so you have to use a 2mm Allen key, I think it would be even more difficult to to get at if it was at the back but to be honest I haven't tried.
@@PedalhoundsTV Thanks!!!!
Hi, great review. Would you be able to let me know more about the issue fitting in the jekyll frame? I have a 2022 model and interested in this shock. 👍
Hi Michael
The low speed dial and lock out lever hit the frame in the cavity on the Jekyll and won't allow the bolts to line up, the new 2023 air shock is the same unfortunately but Rockshox have a special version of the air shock which is due around January from what I can gather. If they have made a jekyll specific air version then I'm sure they will bring out a jekyll specific coil version soon enough because most of the cannondale team are all Rockshox athletes.
@@PedalhoundsTV thanks for letting me know, saved a wasted purchase! It's funny I have a 22 reign E+ and 22 Jekyll also enjoy all the reviews 👍
@@michaelwatts6122 thank you, I'm glad I could help.
I fitted an ohlins ttx into my jekyll in the end, a bit expensive but feels good.
If it was meant to be used on the Jekyll how did you reduce the stroke of the shock :) ? Reign requires 62.5 travel while Jekyll utilizes 65 mm.
@@Rado_activelife the Reign runs 65 really well, especially with the HBO.
You still have plenty of clearance with the frame but the shock feels much better with the little extra stroke, more of a bottomless feel if that makes sense
@@PedalhoundsTV much better in comparison to What?:) Previously you probably had Float X with 62,5mm travel, didn't you?
@@Rado_activelife yes, stock shock, then tried the X2, didn't like it
@@PedalhoundsTV was it Float x2? What was wrong with it?
@@Rado_activelife yes float X2.
I just didn't like the feel of the shock and never have, I've had one on a few bikes over the last few years and never got on with them, most overrated shock ever in my opinion.
Hi
Which jekyll didn't this shock fit? Jeckyll 2022/2023? Why? Is there not enough space in the shock cave?
Thanks
The 22 Jekyll with the cavity , the lever and lsc dial hit off the side of the frame, too wide to go in
I have the RC2T Coil on my Forbidden Dreadnought. It is awesome. I do have a Reign E 2022 as well. Does the linear rear end works well with a coil? Was thinking about throwing out that X2, that keeps breaking for a RC2T Air shock and now I see this 😁 Which spring rate do you use? I am about 220lbs / 97kg geared up. Running a 400lbs spring on the dread.. I guess I need a lot more on the Reign?
I'm 84kg kitted out and have a 450 spring, I might try a 500 but I think the 450 is good.
I was blown away by how good the coil felt on tge Reign E, I thought it would make the bike feel dead but quite the opposite, it really brought it to life.
The fact you can now set LSC and HSC with HBO is a game changer for me, you can get exactly the feel you want without it being over complicated like an X2
@@PedalhoundsTV That's exactly my problem. I did find a good setting on the X2, but I somehow do not feel "at home". Switching the X2 for the Rc2t coil on the dreadnought instantly felt way better. I guess, I might try the coil as well. Any issues with bottoms out? My only concern is the linearity of the backend on the reign. I guess HBO takes care of that well enough.
@@sprousaTM no problem at all, the HBO works really well, it makes the last bit of travel feel very smooth and controlled, almost like ramp up on an air shock.
The other option is once you have your spring rate sorted is to swap it out for one of the progressive springs if needed but my guess is you won't need to.
I have a 2022 reign e3
Standard shock size 205x62.5
What’s the coil size please..same ??
Great vid. I'm planning on replacing the Fox factory airshock on my Orbea Rise. It's just too damn stiff, and unenjoyable on rough, rocky, downhill. Do you recommend the Super Delux RC2T ? The bike weighs 19kg, and I weigh 79Kg. I would also like to join the Race you just one, It seems the riders are all in my age category. LMK
Thanks 😊
Yes I would definitely recommend it, my bike has been transformed since putting it on, just make sure you get the correct spring rate.
The race has mixed ages in the Ebike category, I'm glad I'm still able to beat the youngsters 😂
What’s your weight full equipped and what is your setup on this shock in detail ? Cheers for help 🙏
Hi Marcel
I'm 84kg with kit.
I'm running a 450 lb spring at 2 turns of preload, +1 on HBO, 11 clicks rebound, 3 HSC and 2 LSC (count from fully closed), easy to use because there are only 5 clicks on both compression dials.
Hope this helps 😊
Would this be worth upgrading from 2021 ultimate coil? Would be nice having hsc and hsr
Personally I think yes, not just for the HSC but the HBC, I think it's a game changer but not only that the actual shock feels just overall way better, you wouldn't regret the upgrade.
@@PedalhoundsTV thanks, il definitely keep it in mind !
Question: Did you remove the bottom bushing/sleeve from the rock shox damper ? mine does not fit with the giant bolt🤔
Yes you have to remove the bush, the Giant system just uses the eyelet of the shock.
@@PedalhoundsTV thank you you. Looking forward to ride it so excited 👍
@@BSE75 No problem at all, glad to help
How do you adjust the HSC that’s buried down in the frame? Cheers
It's the rebound that is in the lower part of the frame, you can adjust it with a small Allen key, it's not too bad to get at 😊
Congrats on the race result 👍
Would it be worth it for non-gnarly riding, I don’t race and only do small jumps, nothing crazy…?
Cheers!
Thanks 😊
The reason most people don't use a coil shock is because of the weight (normally twice as heavy as air) but if you get a titanium spring to go with it then that weight is reduced massively.
It also depends on the type of trails you ride, choppy, rooty and rough stuff then yes I would definitely go for it, it will change your bike completely.
Just be aware though that not all frames play well with coil, check the manufacturer first.
I'm never going back to air.
@@PedalhoundsTV
Thanks for the detailed answer, I have the 2022 Reign E+2... 😄
@@jeanmarc_in_Hudson 😂😂😂 of course 😂😂😂
Sorry bro 😂😂.
Then go for it, it's the job, just get the correct spring 😊
Where did you get the shock from ?I have a 22 reign e3
Trunion 205x65.hard to find !!
Any hard ware needed also ?im 17 stone also !!
I got it from my Sram Dealer Zyro, the size should be 205x62.5.
Where are you living?
Nottingham
@@user-nn4wj8gk9s have you tried TF Tuned?
hi, how did you do the 12mm ring placed below? the screw/pin is 15mm
Do you mean the bottom shock mount?
yes, the pin is 15mm in diameter
@@lorenzomagagnotti8536 you push the shock bush out and the pin/bolt is the correct size for the shock eye.
All Giant maestro bikes are the same.
Hope this helps.
Cant understand HBO use then, because with hi speed you slow the last in of the stroke and low speed is the beaginning of the stroke you slow down.
HS and LS work throughout the stroke, HBO is only the last 20%, if you have the shock feeling just how you want it to feel but tend to bottom out then the HBO is a great addition, I have mine set at just two click and I can notice the difference.
Without the HBO you might have to up a spring rate to stop bottoming out or add more HSC, that might ruin the feel of the shock that you are after.
It's a great addition.
There is a difference between travel speed (compression) and progressivity (hbo)
@@kleinkurti I suppose if you hit something hard enough 🤷♂️
does every coil size fit
No, 205x62.5 is the correct size but you can get away with 205x65, that's what this one is.
When tune?
Hi Robert
I'm not sure what you are asking?
Gary
@@PedalhoundsTV when Valve L M or R

does anyone knows whats the meaning of the first number on the rockshox coils? for example, i have 1 red coil of 450lb, but next to that number on the left, there is the number 79. And on the other coil, (400lb), there is a 70 number. What those numbers mean?
No but I'm gonna find out 😊
