No one talks about how difficult it is to install. I call it a complete nightmare. I can’t imagine trying to get the tire off and install a tube. Continental needs to make the tire 2-3 mm larger.
@@juanhidalgo7043 what wheels are you putting them on to?
You pretty much said it but it would be nice if you confirmed the sizing on the shoes was accurate. Great review.
I am looking at buying Jekyll carbon 2, found a great offer used. See I’m only 5’11” and the bike is an XL frame. Will I find issues with is? Thanks
@@EthanDean-j6i yes you will struggle with that size, L would be the size you need.
Do you think they improved range. Particularly over something like a maxxis maxxgrip front and rear??
@@jameslines9794 definitely, they roll really well, Maxxis Maxgrip is probably the worst compound to use if you want more range
Good to hear. I've left the maxxgrip assegai up front as I think that makes way less difference to rolling speed etc. And gone for The E mazza on rear. Can feel the rubber is firmer
I don’t struggle with that bolt. In fact I got mine out when I used a literal mtb bar as an extension for my Allen key. However my cranks don’t have that self extraction feature. I have Truvativ descendant cranks. I do have this self extraction feature on my second bikes cranks and now I wonder if I can put it on my main bikes crankes in order to remove them. Would that work? Or do you know a better way?
@@Laurinmtb if your cranks are missing the round threaded self extraction cap then yes you can as long as they are sram or truvativ, you should also be able to pick one up from your local bike shop for a couple of bucks
@@PedalhoundsTV okay thank you I’ll try that out
If it was meant to be used on the Jekyll how did you reduce the stroke of the shock :) ? Reign requires 62.5 travel while Jekyll utilizes 65 mm.
@@Rado_activelife the Reign runs 65 really well, especially with the HBO. You still have plenty of clearance with the frame but the shock feels much better with the little extra stroke, more of a bottomless feel if that makes sense
@@PedalhoundsTV much better in comparison to What?:) Previously you probably had Float X with 62,5mm travel, didn't you?
@@Rado_activelife yes, stock shock, then tried the X2, didn't like it
@@PedalhoundsTV was it Float x2? What was wrong with it?
@@Rado_activelife yes float X2. I just didn't like the feel of the shock and never have, I've had one on a few bikes over the last few years and never got on with them, most overrated shock ever in my opinion.
Yooo that’s my bike I’m ten btw💀
Thank you!!!
@@joseivannunez2716 no problem 😊
Mine wasn't that's loud till I played with the springs
@@anthonyjimenez6685 the noise gets a bit annoying after a while 😑
Mine stuck trying to remove it get bolt of then the crank doesn't budge any fixes?
The bolt shouldn't be off, it should stay inside the crank arm, did you remove the end cap by any chance?
@@PedalhoundsTV i removed the end cap i figured it out sorted the crank out in the end

thankyou for the great video, im thinking about getting this bike and you have really helped me.

Just back from my first ride with a Super Deluxe Select Coil and I must say: it really is a different bike and it‘s awesome! Best invest so far! I also habe the E+ 2 model and Rodung it with 25% sag on a 450 coil because of pedal strikes. Looking for shorter cranks now to raise the sag. Flip chip on low - feels better in my opinion. Coil? Absolutely! Love it - and the red color ;)
I've never struggled with pedal strikes so I have the stock length cranks, one thing though is the HBO helps with that.
Any recommendations on how to reach the rebound dial as it‘s pretty hard to adjust…
@@Meisenking you should be able to get at it with your fingers but if not then try a 2mm hex key. Do you have the dial to the front or back?
To the front. The hex key worked… I could have thought of it myself ;)
Do you get a little motor or battery rattle?
No nothing at all, are you having troubles?
@@PedalhoundsTV I think i am, If you watch my latest video from about 2:35 on you can hear it clearly, Obviously can hear it throughout the video. I've put up a short that shows some internal gearback lash that i've been told is apparently normal?? If you could compare would be great. The whole bike doesnt sound much different to a Bosch motor'd bike with its rattle... I've read some reviews who compare the noise with being the same as the bosch etc. The bike shop is 3.5 hrs away so Need to be sure of what it is or if its normal before taking it back
@@Ignitionmtb is the chainring loose or is that motion blur from the camera?
@@Ignitionmtb I hear that rattle yes, I do get some knocks now and then from motor kicking in when the pedals move forward and the motor trying to get engaged. I'll do a short for you later to compare
@@PedalhoundsTV chainring is tight.. think its motion blur causing that.
i just got one too! i was trying to get about 30% sag, w/ a 400# spring i only got 28% and w/ a 350# spring i got 33% so - enter Sprindex - now i can adjust the spring rate without giving up any sensitivity. this shock has it all.. the HBO is a damn good feature. had to give up the lockout switch b/c my carbon spindrift frame won't allow the switch to move into "lock". guess i don't climb much anyway, on a park bike. ;)
Yeah the hbo makes a huge difference, I have a ttx22m.2 ohlins on my other bike and you notice the lack of hbo
My original hub lasted 40km/24mi... Junk shimano hubs i had, wobbly asf.
What did you change to?
@@PedalhoundsTV I have Raceface Vault's and currently building a DTswiss 350 hybrid with a FR541 bomb proof wheel for the Reign E+ . not sure you can go any stronger.... Should be Fully tensioned and ready by this weekend!
@@MrSupermugen sweet, I recently tried the Hope Fortus 30 Ebike wheels with the pro 5s, seriously good wheels but heavy
@@PedalhoundsTV Yeah the 350/541 is a heavy setup aswell but im not worried as it will also work as a spare for the Merida FR600 i have for the park.
what would you go for an ebike, in FL, very rooty soft trails, 50/50 climb. Thinking enduro soft krypt fr or argo enduro soft (if i can find them), xyn or krypt dh soft rear (can run cush core and try trail too), cheers!
I'm actually doing a video now on tyres and set up for Ebikes, it should be out in a week or so. The enduro tyres are perfectly good for ebikes in my opinion although the dh casings give a little more security, I don't think the trail version (insert or not) would be great, too flexi , pressures would have to be really high and the grip isn't the best in wet conditions.
@@PedalhoundsTV awesome ty! going for the enduro front kr and rear soft xy. Look forward to seeing the vid!
I currently bought trek rail 9.8 and it came with 2023 zeb select+ 160 mm teavel. If i want to change to ultimate and 170 mm. Do i need to change entire fork or changing damper to to 170 mm ultimate and the work becomes the ultimate? Or should i change the entire work. The forl on the bike is ebike tuned
You can just change the damper and airshaft, I have done the same on my Reign E which had the Select, it's a game changer
no real issues with cranks hitting?
No nothing at all, I have a new video on the way addressing some of these problems people seem to be having. It will be uploaded soon, keep an eye out for it.
@@PedalhoundsTV Great, I watched a few videos of mostly similar riding to what ill do(no tech climbing) and decided to purchase! pickup the 2024 E+2 tomorrow!

No worries my friend 👍
I don’t really know if those butter cups really make a difference. I can’t tell a difference
Personal I think the best way to reduce trail chatter is to drop tyre pressure by a couple of psi, much cheaper to
Thanks for reply I tried to enter the event but the event was sold out I think I tried around February I have a megawatt which I would like to try it with I also have normal bikes too one year on one and another year with the other that’s my plan anyway
You would have more fun on the Ebike for sure but faster on the normal without a doubt, the amount of speed I lost across bluedoon was crazy, but in saying that the Ebike definitely made up for it on the climbing, probably balanced out in the end.
I thought e-bikes were not allowed at Mac avalanche good to see there is a category for them
My first year doing it so I didn't know they were not allowed before. They are getting popular so I suppose they have to let them in. I normally race my standard enduro bike but was persuaded by a friend to go Ebike and to be honest, apart from the climbs it was extremely tough going, when you hit the motor cutoff 😭😭😭.
I'm the one in the red trousers that crashed in front of you at the start. then was lying on the track later in the run! Good effort.
Ah no way, you ok after the other crash? Did you see the bbc online news? It has a picture of the 3 of us crashing in the first corner.

does every coil size fit
No, 205x62.5 is the correct size but you can get away with 205x65, that's what this one is.
Ok tool, low quality housing, broken 2 at 3nm.

Great vid. Its interesting ur using a token in the new air spring but not in the old one as the new spring is supposed to be more progressive. Food for thought
Since the video a few things have changed, I'm still on the same fork and still using one token but I have changed the oil in the damper from 7WT to 5wt, it makes a massive difference. The biggest problem with the Zeb is the damper tune, it is a bit firm. You can go one of two ways, tune the stack or change the oil, I did the easy option and man it made a difference. It really frees up the fork.
@@PedalhoundsTV great information, thanks
@@PedalhoundsTV I've read that one of the causes of the "firmness" is the dished piston the charger 3 has. A few companies have started producing their own version including wps at j-tech. Supposed to make a huge difference
@@ab_mtb yes I've heard that, would be interesting to try one out
I had a problem with both my lights, (8000s and 5000s) The cable had a short in them! Magicshine questioned my “normal usage” and saying I abused the lights and they said they looked beat up. They eventually replaced them. It’s frustrating because it’s an amazing product but the quality of the cables are no good.
I know what you mean, I have had a cable crack which was a bit disappointing but it wasn't expensive to replace. I'm on my second season with these now and they still a fantastic light, battery is still holding for at least 3 night spins before needing a charge.
they recently did a firmware update to giant connect app, I wonder what changed or improved?
I haven't updated mine yet, very little changes from previous updates.
I wish you could do a nice video on how to use the power controls on frame and bar in detail and how to set up power and torque settings on the giant control app. it would be cool.
I'll see what I can do for you.

What tyres/wheels are you running?
I have dhf 2.6 on front and assegai 2.5 back dh casing. Maybe this could limitate the efficiency?
@@valeriomoretta most definitely, are they Maxgrip compound? I did a race at the weekend on my Reign E, I changed the tyres to exo+ maxterra, in full power mode I did the 35k race and had 46% battery left, it wasn't very high race with only 700m overall but it was none stop.
Yes are max grip on the rear (assegai is for the front and for sure is not rolling as other tyres) but I had same results also with last schwalbe big Betty I found on it that was finished and slick (it's a second hand bike). Anyway for you 700 d+ with full power and 46% left its a good result I think. Maybe with second or third assistance you can pass over 1000m with same battery remaining
how tall are you?
I'm 5ft 9 David
I'm 6 foot tall. I normally rode large bikes, my last bike a Giant trance X 29er, and always felt she was too big for me, never got comfortable on her. I recently picked up in the used market a giant reign E + 3 size medium, and she feels great! Better than my trance x 29er, Weird, I wonder why?
