How to Make Strapless Fairy Wings | DIY Fantasy Costume | DAMSELS IN DIY

- In this video, we'll teach you how to make DIY strapless fairy wings. These can be made for a standalone project, but this is also part two in our rose gown dressmaking series!

Tools:
- Sewing Machine
- 2 Wire Cutters and Pliers
- Several Large Mixing Bowls
- Several Painter Pails
- Scissors
- Measuring Tape
- Fabric Marking Tool
- Large Tarps or Large Sheets of Painters Plastic
- Clothesline
- Sponge Paint Brushes
- Larger Hand Sewing Needle
- Clothes Pins
- Latex Gloves
Supplies:
- Fabric Strips to match your Corset or Vest
- A Corset or Tight-Fitting Vest
- Sheer fabric of a light color (if you plan to paint your fabric)
- Sewing Machine Thread
- Sturdy coat thread in your project color of choice or maybe even wax thread
- Spool of 17 to 14 gauge electric fence wire (14 gauge is stronger)
- Soft Fabric Paint
- Fabric stiffener (like mod podge)

I. Freakin. Love. Wings! I keep making and remaking a pair of angel wings. Someday I will be happy with them. Do you ever have trouble with the wire you use for wings rusting over time? I have this problem often with fairy wings and with angel wings, even if I don't get them wet. I even used coated wire hangers and the paint cracked off and the wire rusted anyways... Ideas?

If you use galvanized steel electric fence 14 gauge wire it won’t rust. :). I’ve had to hose my flower dresses down after dusty festivals and they are still good years later! This was a great question! 😄

Why haven't I thought to sit on the floor with my sewing machine?! I hate sitting in chairs for too long and the table isn't tall enough for me to stand. I'll have to try this with my next project.
