I adore Jeremy Brett and I still get sad when I think of him not being with us anymore but then some souls are too sensitive for this harsh world we live in; I look forward to seeing him on the other side!!!

It come clear in this interview that Jeremy could not bear his wife death. It hurts me so to see him suffering. He was a remarkable person. I will always carry him in my mind till the ending of my time.

I think he's a great Holmes because he does bring warmth to the character. The character is known to be seemingly blunt and logical and distant but now and again Jeremy's portrayal leaks some genuine empathy. He shows he cares about the people he's helping and it's that that makes the character real and interesting.

Well I can't believe I've found this posting,I'm sat here watching one of the greatest Holmes ever to grace the screen. A fine actor ,certainly sadly missed by all. But even as time moves on and another generation of actors joins the ranks, great performers and even greater gentlemen will never be totally forgotten.

Jeremy was and is the best actor I have ever seen. I thank you all dear uploaders. I am German, so please forgive my writing mistakes. Jeremy was not only the best Sherlock Holmes-he was the best actor. I just remember films like Seagull Island and Twins (with Stefanie Power). He played very brilliant and it is still a loss in the film world. I was just a step away to see him live in theatre in London-unfortunately -of course- I couldn't get a ticket. It was sold out.

Was such a brave man.....and I believe that he was a very strong person, but when you have this powerful love for a certain person/and or pet(I've lost pets, that have been like my very own children).....You first become shocked, and numb....then you have a period of release, and then you have anger, all those feeling are 100 fold if you happen to have a chemical inbalance, and so, on Jeremy, it finally took it's toll.

We he is certainly my favorite Holmes. Nice to see him here. Heard he was ALMOST James Bond too but Roger Moore got the part. Holmes is much classier than Bond and I glad things went the way they did. He died too young though.

Over 100 actors played Holmes, but only Jeremy Brett became Holmes. An enlarged heart due the rheumatism as a child, bipolar, loss mother in car crash, wife to cancer, dyslexic, 60 cigarettes a day, he literally shortened his life playing Holmes. RIP Mr Brett we are in your debt.

I very briefly met Jeremy whilst I was talking to Edward Hardwicke..and it was sad and at the same time almost comical..(though in hindsight now knowing he was Ill, it was very tragic) Jeremy popped his head out of the window onto the street at the side of a theatre where he was appearing and started to declaim about 'not wishing to appear rude but he really couldnt stand around and talk'..but the sad thing was that there was nobody around or listening,..just a couple of girls walking past who all giggled and one said rather loudly 'ooO look its Jeremy Brett!!' and the girls all giggled ..Edward Hardwicke just raised his eyebrows and looked at the floor shaking his head..for me it was a combination of awe , as Brett is my Holmes hero..and sadness because, as I later read, he was verging on a breakdown and, as a consequence, Edward Hardwicke was at his wits end..I can still vividly see him in my minds eye and I wish he had taken time out to get well..as it ultimately, if you read about his depression and the meds he had to take.. led to his untimely passing. A brilliant interpreter of Holmes and still my favourite to have played him .. even up against Rathbone

I'm not surprised brett was considered for Bond, but he's too cerebral. He's the english gentleman, thanks to his father (cavalry officer), but he would have lacked the physicality for Bond. Moore was an Army officer, so had the physicality. It all worked out for the best. Moore as Holmes would not have been good.

Maybe that's why he was so above and beyond.
Not only did his personality perfectly suit the role, but he constantly had to strive hard to "find" Holmest, which if you think about it, is what every reflective person does, trying to find themselves.

With Jeremy - there is definitely a 'rabbit away'.
He strikes me as a man, who married, with 'game' still in his sights.
He was a woofter and his protrayal of Sherlock was a betrayal of the character with his 'hammed up' performance.
