It’s interesting to me how they’ve changed their sound over the years. From the violent sounds and screams of the beginning, reflecting turmoil, pain and torment of years gone by, to now. Their sound feels... older, set in, and grizzled. They’ve gone through so much. And that is interesting to see. I’m not sure which I like more. The old sound is so dark and so intense. The newer stuff sounds defeated in a certain way. But it carries weight and experience with it. It’s beautiful in its own way.

Defeated? Is that really the word you'd use to describe songs like Are you Ready or Reason to Fight? Hell even the last album Immortalized had some powerful tunes to them. Vengful One anyone?

    • @gregoryfilin8040
      @gregoryfilin8040 5 років тому +46

Ashbringer36 I think defeated was the wrong word. I think the better word would be “worn”. The sound has a certain wear and tear to it. And this song shows it best. This song had defeated tones to it. But you are right, it doesn’t describe many of the others. So, to correct myself, their newer stuff sounds more worn, torn, weathered. It’s not as crisp or brand new in the tones. It feels like they’ve found a good sound and range.

I find a lot of people miss the old style of Disturbed. I don't think they get it. If they don't evolve, they'll die out. You can feel the passion in their music. It's not just profit, it's a piece of these peoples soul that we all get to experience.

I'll be listening to this tonight when I get to the gym. :) You raise good points that I think a lot of people just don't think of.

I agree. Their stuff may be divisive, but it has genuine emotion and deep feeling to it. It’s something you can’t fake. It has to be deep and genuine.

It's still the same old rinse recycle and repeat that disturbed Is known for, but they're now now just trying to recreate the success of the sound of silence cover, which was amazing, but almost every song is acoustic and lacks proper build up and power that a lot of their older music had.
Like I hope the can recover and refine for the next album, but imo this album was very meh to me and I really, really wanted to like this album.

@Rdog Some people also mature... And they want to hear some amazing ballads, some sad/pretty songs full of emotion & experience from their favorite metal band. 🤘 This album totally did that for me! Many true fans of Disturbed, like me, will really appreciate an album like this! Granted, I hope it's a little heavier on their next album, with more guitar solos too, but I love this album! And I think you're definitely wrong that they won't get any new fans with some softer songs. Look how much positive recognition they got with The Sound Of Silence cover, for Christ's sake!!! Lol. And now they're making some Great ballads of their own, which I think is amazing! And yes, some people with a limited mindset for music prefer heavier stuff... But, you gotta admit I make some good points that you may have not seen. Anyway, have a good day.

Sorry for your loss.. Im very aware that means nothing and doesn’t help at all but I know the pain. I Lost my mom last year and a few of their songs are as if they took my thoughts and emotions straight from my soul and put them on paper. No doubt I’m going to see them but I’m afraid I won’t be able to hold the tears back. But their songs have been one thing that does help & they let me sing my heart out in pain from losing her and in memory of how much she meant to me.

@@hamzanaeem74 no mate, thankfully not. I'll tell the short version. It started with an aunt and she got worse really fast so the choice of others was euthanasia, after that an uncle was rushed to the hospital because of breathing problems. He then died there of an heart attack. After that both my grandparents got worse really fast and my grandmother especially of Alzheimer and no longer wanting to eating. Both of them had euthanasia too so thats 4. After that we got a call that an close aunt of us was rushed to the hospital. Her lungs were full of mucus so she couldn't be helped, she wasn't strong enough to cough it out, so thats 5. After that an uncle was rushed too the hospital and were told that his organs were failing. So he chose for himself that he wanted euthanasia. The last one is a aunt and she died in the night of a heart attack and possibly a brain bleeding. Her grandson found her in the morning so that was really sad... Crucible why not? A married man can’t write a song about a woman who he loved to the ends of the earth who unexpectedly committed suicide? If his wife wouldn’t let him, she’d just be a bitch. If you love someone so much that more than a decade and a new wife down the line, you still can cry about the love you had, does that not make it special and meaningful? That reason just seems really paper thin.

    Lyrics:
Now we have come far too many times to celebrate this death
    That soon some will forget
And we mourned far too many times to celebrate this death
I'm not ready for this yet
    Is she already gone
Can we call her back again
    Is she already gone
Will she find me in the end
Pain left me numb far too many times to celebrate this death
    I will never forget
And we spoke, oh so many times, the words we never said
Are the ones I most regret
    Is he already gone
Can we call him back again
    Is he already gone
Will I find him in the end
    Are they already gone
Can we call them back again
    Are they already gone
Will I find them in the end

I am a newbie to Disturbed. I saw them perform "Sounds of Silence" on Conan. I lived with Simon & Garfunkel throughout my life and Paul Simon is my absolute favorite songwriter/composer. Was blessed to see him recently in Tampa during his farewell tour.
So, to be honest, when I saw this "metal band" on Conan introduced and set to perform "Sounds of Silence", my first thought was, "Oh Hell no..." Man oh man, did I eat my words - it was (and still is) magnificent - I absolutely loved their version. Both versions fit their times.
Well, I started researching Disturbed and their songs, the lyrics, and they are so incredibly deep and meaningful. This is my first time hearing this song, and MAN OH MAN..., what an absolutely beautiful and meaningful song. I have many years behind me in life and I have lost my entire family to death so every lyric in this song has such rich meaning....
And I recently listened to "A Reason to Fight"... wow, just wow, I wonder how many addicts that song may have helped.
Much, much, much respect to Disturbed....

My last family member I had to be in this terrible place with that I knew would always be there. The loss of my big brother, sister, father have all just destroyed me. I am so greatful for the music and for spiritual practices that help me find them and also myself together again. Never separate. Yet the burden is something I would wish on no one. If not for shamanism and buddhism as well as others I would be truly a mad man. Perhaps I still may be. If you have family your so lucky.

I haven't listened to this album very much, but my grandma passed away today and this song came up in my mix. Needless to say I broke down crying. Beautiful song by an amazing band and definitely listening to the rest of the album.

My son lost his best friend in Jan of this year. When I first heard this song I kept thinking of his friend and I cried. But it made it easier for me to accept it and move on.

I am a HUGE Disturbed fan, and I freaking LOVE this new album. I love this side of them. Great job by David and the guys. Seeing them in Pittsburgh next month, and am so pumped to hear this new music live!

Saw them live the other day, of course they played the oldies, but the new ones were the biggest hits...
