I am a landowner in the mountains of western Puerto Rico. A good part of my land was too steep for farming, so the original rain forest remained untouched. For ten years I have allowed and encouraged the other parts of my land, once in coffee, to regenerate. In the tropics this regeneration is fast, so when I leave this life, nature will remain in charge of the land. Puerto Ricp is now heavily forested and healed, and many new land owners want to protect the forests. It will take much longer to grow the ancient huge trees, but they are returning!

1:12 If Puerto Rico went from 7% of Rainforest in the 40's to 65% nowadays, a similar model needs to be implemented in Haití, as the weather and the mountains system of the larger Antilles are very similar and it can really improve the land quality for further harvest. Just look a satellite pictures from the border between Haití and the Dominican Republic to see what can be accomplished when the economy and good environmental policies are well integrated.

It actually is happening to the Amazon Rainforest. Farmers in Peru, Columbia, Ecuador etc.... are paying farmers to replant their Farm land with multiple different types of Native species. The only problem is the Loggers and Farmers who think they dont have enough land.

This gives us a glimpse of what south Florida would look like if it had mountains or a really hilly terrain of any sort. The only places you can find rainforest here are in the thousands of islands and islets at the Everglades in Florida bay, there those have tropical hardwood hammocks forming small rainforest ecosystems on every island

Puerto Rico naturally has no dangerous animals. The most dangerous are invasive animals like the brown and black widow spider and wild hogs. But the chances of being hurt by them are extremely low.

Most snakes in PR are harmless. I think it’s only the Puerto Rican racer snake that has traces of venom. Just wear high boots if in high grass type areas in the countryside.

It's great for the ecology, but we have to acknowledge that there has been so many people depopulating the villages and towns in rural PR, and if they don't stay in San Juan area, or some other touristic hot spot, they go to the mainland USA for opportunity, understandably so. I imagine something similar is happening in rural Japan, with wild regrowth but there are many ghost villages and many small and medium scale farmers have aged out or moved to the city.

Puerto Rico is a beautiful island where people work hard and decently to pay billions on federal taxes a year, and support whoever arrives in need, but has been invaded by drug dealers along the coasts from DR, with destiny to the island, the Caribbean, USA and wherever they stay. The government has confiscated millionaire drug shipments this year. The report “2017 National Drug Threat Assessment” says that Dominican drug trafficking organizations are a serious threat because they are the major distributors of cocaine in the New York metropolitan area. Puerto Rico does not produce drugs or guns, and they do not arrive by plane.
DR is queen of food stamps and welfare in the USA, according to statistics, of prostitution in the Caribbean according to worldwide organizations, of drug dealers in the USA according to the (DEA) and scamming the world. Just look for info. It is all on the web, so the world knows who to watch out for.
