My father lives in rural Puerto Rico and they have: coconuts, mangos, papayas, cilantro, pineapples, pigeon peas, jobos (fruit), chickens (& eggs), passion fruit on the property and across the road...tangerines, star fruit, guava, root vegetables, PR hot peppers and it keeps going.

Puerto Rico is absolutely beautiful but the people there are even more beautiful then the island I went on vacation years ago and every where we visited on that island we were treated like royalty! Not once did we have to ask for a drink the hospitality is just something I've never seen! We were invited to dine at every home we visited and I have to say that it's truly a great thing when your visiting and the hostess just wants to share the bounty of delicious foods we never really get to eat in the states! I often get a little sad thinking that these wonderful people have suffered without electricity and clean water and food cause I was fed so much while I was there. They would get offended if you said "No Thank you I ate at restaurant. One lady said "Pues then you have to stay till lunch because I'm going to make a feast for all of you ! I love Puerto Rico..can't wait to go back. God bless all the island and the people always.

Best people in the world. Very proud of their island and proud to be Americans through and through. Best of the best. If everyone was starving and someone had 100 pieces of rice 100 people would get 1 piece. The best! God Bless Pr!

BEE REAL True! My father lives over there, and he said that everyone was giving the electricity workers from Texas and Colorado food, water and AFTER they were done with their work, beer. This of course despite the fact that they didn’t have much of it or had to wait in lines. He, himself, would go and buy water to give to them. It’s just something that is VERY engraved in PR mentality and it’s almost rude to not offer others something that you have, even if you are not very affluent.

It remined me my growing in Puerto Rico during the 2World War.Both parents worked in Old San Juan we lived in the city but had a yard where my Dad raised chickens, his cousin brought milk every Sunday from his farm and we could make butter. Rice was scarce and when it arrived had to be well washed. An Roots(yautia, yame, platanos, guineos y fruits were always available in the yard. On august 20th. My 87th.Birthday missing my island but so proud of being Puertorican.
