Cut from Japanese movie "Ten to Chi to" (Heaven and Earth) 1990.
Sadayuki, also known as Sadamitsu, was for years one of Uesugi Kenshin's chief retainers, having supported him in his war for control of Echigo.
The son of Usami Takatada, he was long a notable retainer of the Nagao clan of Echigo. He helped convince the young Uesugi Kenshin (then known as Nagao Kagetora) to rebel against his elder brother Harukage and led troops for him during the resulting civil war. In 1564 he is reputed to have murdered Nagao Masakage on Kenshin's orders, though given that he himself appears to have died (of drowning) during the same incident makes this somewhat odd. According to one story, Masakage's son, Kagekatsu, held a resentment against the Usami for this, and when he assumed command of the Uesugi in 1579, compelled Sadayuki's son Katsuyuki to flee Echigo

All kidding aside, this was a really touching scene, they had absolutely no malice towards one another and in the end was for their individual faction's benefit, given the choice they might not have come to blows at all.
Fun Fact: Ken Watanabe was supposed to be Kenshin, I would have loved to seen Him play that part.

As far as I know Usami Sadamitsu was born in 1489. so he was 76 years old by 1564.

@@main1033 Usami was disgusted by Kagetora remaining silent on a murder of a son and a wife of a rebelling lord. He did not particapte in any of wars Kagetora had and it eventually ended in a betrayal.

Is this duel historical? Can't find any info about It anywhere
between Kenshin and Usami? No, First off Usami Sadamitsu was a retainer of the Uesugi Clan and was the one that helped Kenshin get in power in the first place, secondly Kenshin would have been 14 at the time, not the same age as Sadamitsu.
