It’s was super expensive. Now is the time to have fun with car audio. Cheap clean watts and the materials are so much better. I’d love to be 16 again and be able to afford a 3000watt system.
@HappyHarryHardon When I discovered car audio in 99 through a job experience class for school all I could ever do was drool over it. Everything was awesome to look at and listen to. But I was lucky to even have a Walkman and portable cd player at the time. :)
@ It was awesome but it’s was still incredibly expensive and out of the reach of way too many young folks. Now I can buy a nice Korean amp that cranks out clean 4ohm 1500 watts for under 200$.
@ Agreed. I didn't even have a vehicle at the time let alone the money to put any audio equipment in one. Now it's become more of a mainstream hobby open to everyone with unlimited choices. Rather than a niche only for those with deep pockets to enjoy. Because of Big-D's reviews I'll probably give Down-4-Sound a try in the future. I like their style and color choices. Plus they seem to have good build quality.
90's car audio was straight up EPIC! I'm very fortunate to have experienced such a very special time! I wasn't a Fosgate fan for some reason back then but I wish I had tried one. A few years back I purchased a 40x2 and a 60x2 from eBay and I was blown away by their performance! I still have them in my truck right now. Thanks for another great video!
I didn't discover car audio until 99/2000 when I took a job experience class in school. One of the jobs I got to go to was a local car & home audio dealer. Through him is where I discovered Rockford Fosgate, JL, Clarion, Zapco, Alpine, Phoenix Gold, Orion and Crossfire. Doesn't mean I was able to afford any of it, but at least I found out it existed. 😆
Great video thank you. I ran one of these in a small spl hotrod I built and had 4 x 12” Cerwin Vega V Flex subs getting 145db in 1998 claiming the national title (New Zealand) in the 0-150w class. Wired series parallel from memory
These amps had a quasi-output stage of N channel mosfets in its power output that needed a separate driver and higher B+ which is on a separate vertical PCB. In that era there was a shortage of power mosfets for unknown reasons and the engineers came up with that solution. It happened earlier with BJTs in the early seventies because high power PNP BJTs were available at that time. So only NPN BJTs were used in the power output stages with higher distortion and output coupling capacitors with 20 to 30 watts of output power to mimic the tube amplifiers..
Hmmm... I have the Punch 40 version of this amp, and I used to bridge it to 2ohms without any trouble. Takes a lot less current to do the 200-300 it was probably putting out, though.
I had a punch 150 pushing 4-12s if you had a 250 you were considered a big dog my boy had a suburban with 8-15s it was crazy won the state bass record in 97!
Hello! Love the series. I have been watching for awhile and have a serious question I notice your ch 2 on the dyno is always less than ch 1. Is there a reason for this? I am asking because i like learning about this stuff. Thank you
It really isn't the gear as much as the culture and the vehicles themselves . I don't care how good the party favors are , a rave on a Zoom call isn't much of a party . Way different vibe these days .

Miss the 90s. What a great time for just having fun with car audio
It’s was super expensive. Now is the time to have fun with car audio. Cheap clean watts and the materials are so much better. I’d love to be 16 again and be able to afford a 3000watt system.

Me too! Loved the 90s. And our music was superior to modern music.

Love old school Rockford amps
Those were definitely the good ol days. I remember buying 2 50x2's and was crazy excited to bring them home to get hooked up!
These are the videos I love to see

These bring back great memories
I love these RF amp series😬😬... and yeah...Audiokeller is a cool guy too....😉😉😉😉
i love rockford! make under rated power a thing again!
a classic💪🏼

This stuff is so much more fun than it has any right to be. TY BIG D!
I love it when you push the amps to their limits
This was unobtainium for me back in the day. I had the three way party box with the dual twelves ported. This would have been banging.
Great video thank you. I ran one of these in a small spl hotrod I built and had 4 x 12” Cerwin Vega V Flex subs getting 145db in 1998 claiming the national title (New Zealand) in the 0-150w class. Wired series parallel from memory

The golden age of mobile audio
Awesome 👏
I had this amp powering (2) 8 ohm RF18’s in my Honda hatchback! Never any problems
Oh absolutely NOTHING means a more powerful amplifier is tough than a big wolf! Yes!
Hmmm... I have the Punch 40 version of this amp, and I used to bridge it to 2ohms without any trouble. Takes a lot less current to do the 200-300 it was probably putting out, though.
Thank you.
I noticed the NICHICON CAPS 👍....has a lot to do with its dynamic power, wish today's amps had the same quality components 😮
Did you run the amp dyno with the amp in "Audiophile bypass" without the xover card installed?
In 1997,I had the choice to upgrade to this amp or Heidts upper and lower tubular control arms for my 57 Chevy. I bought the suspension.
Nice
I had a punch 150 pushing 4-12s if you had a 250 you were considered a big dog my boy had a suburban with 8-15s it was crazy won the state bass record in 97!

Hey D! Why don’t you run these tests in Audiophile mode with no cards? It’s in the manual, completely bypasses the x-card circuitry?
George Foreman version! ;-)
Only bad thing about 90s car audio was the $$$. It did not favor me in high school LOL
Do it bump doe? Time for a quadbox demo and see the spl in the kick panel.
I wish I was able to afford RF back in the day
thats a bad mamjama! I had this one powering a pair of JL W0 12s and hit 142db
I’m curious there’s always the debate that class A/B sounds better than class D especially on the highs, what’s your thoughts Big D
Meh is only nostalgia for most 50 yr olds Todays amps are much more efficient and powerful especially current rockford stuff
@@allmotorhash for the same money though?

I had one I had one
There is no cooler looking amp than Punch, specially with two or three installed together!
Ah yes...Rockford Fostgate amps. Put it with a pair of Cerwin Vegas and watch it go to work!
ah yes, the 90's, where every qualtiy manufacturer underrated everything. Take cars for example.....
Banda BD800.4 2025 ~$100
Backwards Inflation 1995 ~$0.13
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
