Yet, he had no shame accepting the post of Finance Minister under Dr. Singh, who was the RBI Governor when Mukherjee was Finance Minister in an earlier government. He did that only because he was aiming the post of President of India, which he eventually became only because of the support he got from Sonia Gandhi. And, he blames the same people and system. Barkha ji, I haven't read the book. I will do so. PB was a great leader and the best pm india never had. Thanks to Neheru Gandhi family. About hegemony, you media people can't see this through. I am 62 and lived through this era. All the media always propaganda the Gandhis and family run parties. Because of which in the 70s, 80s and even till the end of last century, I thought nobody else could run this country except the Gandhis! I cried when Indira and Rajiv were assassinated. But with social media things opened up. I could get information at my will. That's when I realised how badly we were ruled for the last 70 years. We could have a better nation. I could have had better life. All the worms of caste, religion and separatistst were sawn by the Gandhi family. For them Family first. Just a disclaimer I not a support of any party. This is first time I liked Barkha Dutt interview where she seems to be supporting national hero. Pranab M suffered silently like Sardar Patel and did not claim top position. It’s fault of junta and also other congress leaders to let go feudal dynastic way, away from democratic principles in choosing their main face of the party. So wrong was and is being done in silence.

I fail to understand how these so called sycophants of political parties end up writing books in the guise of making money. These sort of things should be banned because whatever is privy between two people during the work period should never come out in public. We can really understand how desperate these people are to make money out of their alma mater and go down to any level to do this. Political life is hard work and whoever it is ,has to go through the grind before establishing themselves as a force. RG is truly working hard and but for the damages being done by his own partymen and trusted lieutants, INC would have been a much stronger force. It's a matter of time before their time comes to shine.....

Some people in the comments section are criticizing Pranab da for his comments on Gandhi family. In my opinion, he followed his drama. All these were internal discussions that didn't reach public. Normally after retiring politicians spend time in writing autobiographies or memoirs or sort. Btw, Pranab da was the reason for UPA to stay strong. LK Advani ji mentioned in the LS, without Pranab there is no UPA. Congress didn't give the respect he deserved I guess after listening to this.
Outdated. Biased. People grow and learn. Rahul Gandhi was a reluctant politician in the beginning. But one cannot doubt his sincerity and honesty now. Pranab Mukherjee's views of that time cannot be used to measure Rahul Gandhi as the person he is today.
A good number of leaders dont want to work, want Rahul Gandhi to work and then reap free benefits. None of them think of the interests of ordinary congress voters except Rahul Gandhi and family; how many of them are above mediocre visionariers except a few like Tharoor or Mathwe K? Dont we see them fighting inside for selfish interests ? Will it not let down ordinary voters?
