  • Andrew Whateley was truly a genius woodworker who apprenticed to John Makepeace OBE and then became his senior cabinetmaker for over a decade and then worked as cabinetmaker at The Royal College of Art. Jeremy Broun filmed in 1989 to feauture in his awar-winning documentary 'Five ways to fashion wood' where Andrew described how he made the incredible shell box. www.woodomain....

    I don't think I ever saw a woodworking project as challenging as this shell box. I will try to find the full documentary.

    Thankyou Jeremy, very fitting and very Andy! He was a big part of my life, dreams and plans. Andy is never forgotten by so many who admired and were inspired by him. The Complete Craftsman and a fun guy. I hope he has found Peace , Becca xxx

      I am just sorting through some of the rushes of my 1989 documentary on Andrew. It has the makings of a fascinating full length documentary. I included a clip of Andrew in my series 'Furniture Today' titling it 'Unsung hero'.

    A great talent but, it seems, not a contented one. His worries are over and he can rest for eternity knowing that he leaves a legacy of craftsmanship rarely equalled.
