I have always had difficulty determining which direction to steer when reversing, and even my driving instructor didn't fully understand my confusion. However, your video has made me feel understood and has greatly improved my confidence when reversing. Thank you!
You make new drivers feel understood ,and you know exactly what our struggles are. Your kind and helpful energy is just mind-blowing. There are so many reasons to thank you. I appreciate this channel so much. Your videos are the best thing I have ever watched. Thank you dearly❤❤❤
The way I visualize it is by thinking of the car always driving on a circle. The line will go lengthwise through the middle of the car. If you steer right the circle is on the right of the car, if you steer left the circle is on the left. Doesn't matter if you go forward or backward. The harder you steer the smaller the circle. (If you don't steer and go straight you're still on a circle but now it's the entire globe)
This was really helpful I think as you mentioned keeping it simple is best. If you want to move towards the kerb steer TOWARDS it. If you want to move away from the curb steer AWAY.
I wanna say I passed my driving test today with 5 minors! I really wanna thank you for all the help you have provided with your videos, it has helped me grasp a lot of my driving skills. I really appreciate all these videos and keeping them free for everyone! :)
@@mariaben6542 Yeah I remember those days, it took months (one private practice a week) of experience to get the hang of them, you will get there eventually! A lot of driving I feel is experience and confidence :)
I literally watched this. As someone scared of driving, I went outside in the car park. Pulled out with the car and reverse parked. Although it took 6 minutes lol, I steered it the correct direction. Thank you for this. I will conquer driving with your videos and help.
Can't appreciate your videos enough! it's like you can get into the head of learners like us, read our confusions and answer them here! Thank you for making these videos!
This is brilliant! My instructor helped me understand it in a similar way "steer where you want to go" basically. This is quite too simple in the end. Thanks for the videos!
There is an easy way to remember which way to steer the steering wheel when reversing. Just think of the back of the car as being the front (while looking backwards); if you want to steer left, then you move the steering wheel to the left or to the right if you want to go right (same as you normally would when driving forward).
I don't know how to drive a car but I'm learning how to drive a sit down forklift at my job and this same concept applies, however thinking about it like this made driving in reverse click for me. I'm driving/looking forward Red curb on my right Blue curb on my left I turn the wheel clockwise and I drive to the right towards the red curb I turn the wheel counter clockwise and I drive to the left towards the blue curb Now I'm driving/looking in reverse The curbs have flipped L&R positions from MY visual perspective however turning the wheel in the SAME direction will drive me toward the SAME curb Red curb on my left Blue curb on my right I turn the wheel CW and I drive to the left towards the red curb I turn the wheel CCW and I drive to the right towards the blue curb What I initially did at first was if I wanted to go to my right while reversing I turned the wheel CW as if I was driving forward and wanted to go right. I was confused as to why I was going the opposite way. That's why I don't like to think of the direction I'm turning the wheel in as L&R and I prefer CW and CCW because I can visually & physically process that concept easier than thinking in terms of L&R in relation to the wheel.
You are a genius! I just love how you understand what new drivers get confused about, and then explain it so simply. Honestly, your vidoes have saved me. Thank you so much ❤

One tip I got from my instructor is to keep the car moving while turning the wheel, while reversing. I thought that wasn't really needed but I did it anyway. One time, I was going to reverse, and before I start reversing I was turning the wheel. when i start moving the steering was all messed up and I was like that's why i should keep the car moving. Doesn't need to be fast, can be really slow but enough to see where the car is going.
