Starlink RV Roof Pivot Mount

- Shows how to install a Starlink dish or antenna on the roof of an RV using the Starlink Pivot Mount. Locating the Pivot Mount next to a skylight so that you can pop up through the skylight and install the dish without climbing on the roof. The Starlink cable to the dish is cut and one part is permanently installed through a hole in the roof and sealed against the weather when not in use with a water tight feed through connector. The other part of the cable goes up to the roof with the dish and is connected to the water tight feed through connector to complete the circuit from the dish to the router inside the house.

Those water-tight RJ-45 connectors are something I've never seen (very cool). Also, it is awesome you also have solar panels on the roof. You've got it together man! The world need more like you.
It is tight before you crimp it as the pins that get pushed into the wire when you crimp are protruding and making it tight. It is common thatRJ45 is hard to insert and remove if the end isn't crimped to push the pins down
When you crimp the wires the pins get set properly. They stick out a bit before it’s crimped. Take a look at the bottom before and after and you’ll see the difference.
Greetings from the UK. Great & helpful video. Food for thought. Thanks 👌
Helpful video - thank you. Suggest you add the 3/4 inch pipe cap to your parts list.
You put together very good videos with the level of detail we need. Thank you.
Thanks. That's exactly what I try to do so it is good to hear that I am on the mark.
Very clever installation. Thanks for the detailed directions. I will definitely refer back too this in the future.
The only problem is when you forget it’s up there and drive off onto the freeway. You’ll have the Dishy flying off. I did it once getting up to 65mph before I remembered. In my case I was lucky that it didn’t fly off but I did have it bolted to my roof rack. With tape it would probably have flown off. I have since replaced it with a permanent flat mount. Much safer.
You definitely don't want to forget it and drive off. I doubt the 3M tape wouldn't hold. Solar panels are quite often attached with the same tape and the panels stay put.
Good Explanation 👌
Thanks - great video! So when parked you have the dish up high and while traveling you're taking it down to the low position on the pivot mount?
Actually, I completely remove it from the mount when I travel. But others leave it up with it in the down position. Just depends on whether you are very conservative like me or not.
@@rvtipsequipmentwithcurtis9087 Thanks. I'm living in the van 24/7 and I'm driving typically every second day. I'm a bit worried if the teeth in the pivot mount are strong enough for this long term. Maybe some kind of typical bike QuickRelease replacement would be better long term. Not sure.
Hi, thanks for your great video. So u cut the original cable and put the rj45 connectors on the 2 ends?? it s right? I m going to do the same work to my RV. Thanks in advance.
That is correct. And then I used a water tight feedthrough to reconnect the two when I want to use the Starlink. I used a simple 1/2" sprinkler cap to cap the end left on the roof when not in use. You can find links to all of these parts down below the video.
What type of ladder are you using inside of your rig to enable roof access via your skylight?
Could you provide manufacturer and model number?
Where do you store the ladder when you travel?
What model LTV do you have?
I have the Unity TB model and store the ladder in the shower when driving and up in the cab when parked. I got it at Lowes and here is a link to it www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-3-Step-250-lb-Capacity-Aluminum-Foldable-Step-Stool/5000211407?cm_mmc=shp-_-c-_-prd-_-bdm-_-ggl-_-LIA_BDM_102_Insulation-And-Ladders-_-5000211407-_-local-_-0-_-0&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwz42xBhB9EiwA48pT70uWFH3hVP21Zt5SFmJDULM0DKcRju4y59V0bpj84XTW5gS567edChoCl6oQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Thank you for showing us how your installation of your dish on the roof of your motor home - Need to know the part number for the roof bracket and cost of same - Also what was the type of 3 M contact adhesive that you did use ?
I added a link to the 3M sealant/adhesive below the video. The roof bracket is simply called a roof pivot mount and can be found on the Starlink site.
How is tye VHB tape holding up, thinking about doing same, do you leave it on the roof folded down when driving?
The VHB tape is doing fine. I take the dish down when I drive but I think I saw that someone leaves theirs up. It is so easy to take it down and reinstall it that I don't want to worry about having it up there while I drive.
Does your skylight simply pop thru so that you can avoid climbing you exterior ladder ?
That's right. Of course I need a small ladder or step stool inside the RV to pop out of the skylight like you see in the video. What you need depends upon your height. But no more climbing on and off the roof to install the dish.
Does your LTV have a slide below where you mounted the pivot for the Starlink???
There is no slide on my RV. There should not be a problem to attach the Pivot mount to the roof with 3M tape next to the skylight even if you have a slide.

Ok thank you. We want to leave the Starlink dish in the pivot mount while we drive so we are going to screw it into a stud on the roof. Your thoughts
@@lindahartley3431 The Starlink Room model does not lie flat like the Starlink Mobile model so you may have problems with the wind on the dish while riding down the road. I would at least park the unit but would still be concerned that it might want to buffet around and even come loose.
How is the 3M tape holding up?
Perfect so far. If something was loose this early I would expect that I did not install it correctly. While I fully expect it to continue to hold tight over the long haul, it really will take a couple of years to see how good this stuff is.
