Not that I will ever have an Internet set up like you have but you never know. Just a hint on thread locker. I have used silicone sealant for thread locker in the past and have had great luck with it. I kept a 1972 Triumph Bonneville from rattling bolts loose for 20 or so years so I think I can recommend it with confidence. One nice things about using it for that purpose is that the bolt will come off with regular tools and with the silicone in the threads it will work for a few times. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
Ugh, I need a speed fusion training class. I run Starlink, 4 hotspots, and a Verizon sim. I must manually prioritize connections when my Starlink doesn't provide good coverage. I might move to the Gen 3, due to this video. But I'd love to see a comparison of the HP and standard StarLink antennas. The cost difference is huge. Great Video, as always!!!
Chad, we’ve had the HP dish and M Plan from Mobile Must Have for about 6 weeks and love it. We are on the road full time and my wife is software application instructor for a DC law firm. So we need a very solid internet connection. The campground we at now is very heavily wooded and was kind of tricky to get into our spot because the many trees here. Our RV is totally covered. My wife is giving a class via zoom and I’m watching UA-cam video on my iPad while raining very heavily. Our cell phones have no service, which is through AT&T. There is only one tower about 10 miles away as crow flies and it is a T Mobile tower. All I know is this is a total game changer for us. Keep up the good work! I really enjoy your videos!
Looking at the pricing plans on a Starlink webpage, seems as "Mobile Regional" plan is not available for HP Antenna. My intention is to purchase purchase HP antenna and activate "Mobile Regiona" plan. Now the have only "Mobile Priority 50 GB and 1 TB" plans available.
Another fine job Chad. Enjoy your BIY videos. Have you come across a quick release mount for the roof of the RV so that you can take it off the roof put it on the ground or a pole if needed?
Thanks, yet again, Chad. As a Senior Network Engineer who has been in IT for nearly 30 years and looking to become a mobile warrior since my team is remote work, this is a ton of help as are most of your technical videos. Really do appreciate it.
Wow, just wow! That was a great explanation, Chad, and it looks like a fantastic setup. SD-WAN was relatively in its infancy when I retired at the end of 2017, and that combination of Starlink and the Peplink router looks amazing. I do love how, after all that high tech in the WAN, you connect it to a NetGear switch for the wired network inside your RV. Go NetGear!
I can see how you absolutely need this. So glad you have this system for your work. Sounds amazing. I am interested in the Starlink for when we travel.
I just purchased a refurbished gen 2 online @ starlink for use in the Philippines and it delivered in a week. So easy my girlfriend set it up. $244 usd delivered $49 usd per month. Shout out to starlink for understanding economic situations in countries like the Philippines still high for the average Filipino but anything helps
I love when you geek out on the tech stuff, because I do too having 20 years in IT as well. Because of the detailed information you gave here and previous videos, I will be able to get my internet setup done correctly so I can comfortably work full-time from anywhere. You just filled-in the missing puzzle link on which Starlink option would be best. Thanks for all the fantastic content!
As A cybersecurity professional you sir have helped me tremendously in my search for a good starting point with up going full time next year. I have a call today with mobile must have so we shall see what route I end up going since I will need a reliable non broken setup. Again love the videos they have helped me in finding a direction a lot.
As an I.T. guy (still working, and planning to work more remote later this year and next) that speed fusion looks good. We'll check out the links and stuff. As always you do a great job of explaining. You should write some technical books! ;-)
Thanks, Chad, for a good video. I understand y'all have requirements that most folks don't have, and I'm glad. I would hate to have to keep up with all of this. However, your explanations and videos are a blow by blow how to video. I would feel confident using your knowledge to set equipment up. Hope this new system exceeds your expectations and your information will help many others. God bless y'all and stay safe on your travels.
I have the starlink dish with the back stand. I was guaranteed at least 100mbs, I got home yesterday morning and did a download, I reached 428mbs maintained then entire download. That's isn't typical but damn I was happy 15GB download in like minutes.
Hey Chad. I am going through mobile must have to get the ultimate road warrior package. Got that all on the way. But I am struggling to decide on the Starlink gen 3 vs the HP. How have this been since you originally made this video. Would you purchase the HP today or just go with the Gen 3. I plan to have the roam unlimited plan either way with the starlink. Will use it as primary or backup to the M plan from mobile must have 5g side, or maybe that backs up the starlink? Either way, I am trying to decide which starlink antenna to pick? I don't think I will be moving it much off the roof, but can you comment on that issue. What if you are at a cg that is under trees and has crappy or no 5g? If I had to move the antenna from the RV roof out into an open area what are the pros and cons of either of the starlink antennas or is it same issue of unscrewing wedgemount and walking it to where you need it? Also, any other info on why you would choose one vs. the other. Thanks for the content I love your tech vids. Oh, and btw I did the "left wallet in rv" move too!!! LOL
The HP is such a huge price jump from the gen 3 and I think both now support in-motion under the roam plan. I think I'd flat mount the gen 3 using that mount from MMH and leave enough slack in the line to move it off roof if needed. 👍🏼 Good luck!
Chad you bring some interesting info to yalls video's. I think that antenna will be great investment in the long run. I look foward to hearing and seeking more about it.

That in motion use for atleast gen3 standard is actually available, though you need to turn it on in your account and will take 15mins to take affect and $2 per GB and you will be continuously billed liked that until your deactivate it which again will take 15mins to take affect fyi.
Two things, first you are BY FAR and away my favorite narrator of how tos. I really appreciate how you navigate these. Second, do you tack down the cable between the junction and dish, or for that matter any of the roof cables like cameras and what not? I have not found a solution I love yet. Thanks!
Mobile Must Have is great. I have Starlink Gen 3, Peplink MAX Transit Duo Pro with AT&T, T-Mobile, and FusionSIM. I was using Pepwave MAX BR1 Pro 5G x62 but wanted to try FusionSIM. The BR2 wasn’t in my budget so I went with the Transit.
So refreshing. Thank you for the breakdown and technicals. Will be following and sub. Looking for something moving a little faster but you've given me some great starting material. Cheers.
Great video! I had worked a little bit with peplink professionally and wondered how well it would work for RV travel. Really glad you made this video! We're not necessarily ready to jump on it just yet but we've got the same star link that you used to have.
We like the ability to move the Antenna. We stay where trees can be an issue with no cell service. With a 150' cable we can most of the time find a location for antenna where as if it was on top of home (RV) no satelite reception might be available.
HI CHAD & TARA 👋 THANK YOU FOR GOING OVER ALL THIS FOR EVERYONE ! MAYBE ONE DAY ? HOPE YOU BOTH & THE PUP ARE DOING WELL ! HOW'S THE WEATHER WHERE YOU'RE ? BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏ENJOYED ❤☺️ 🙏GOD BLESS YOU BOTH & THE PUP ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES ☺️ 🙏 THANK YOU !☺️ 🙏 ❤
I used mobile must have for AT&T data a few years ago and they ended up getting caught selling plans they weren’t suppose to sell. My $500 modem got blacklisted from AT&T and they left me hanging with the paperweight. So I just can’t bring myself to pay Mobile Must Have for anything. Perhaps you could offer some alternative options for purchasing this stuff.
What about winter conditions? Post something when the colder season rolls around? Thank you for all the information you post. You answer many of my questions”what if and how” questions.
I feel I’d be internet rich and wallet poor if we bought all that. Starlink Gen 2 flat mounted on our Sprinter Van and TMo tethering as a back up. But we spend most of our time out west. Thanks for the video. 😊 What’s the power consumption difference between the two?
Hey Chad, just watched your video and wanted to bring to attention the fact that Starlink just dropped the price of the standard antennae from $599 down to $499. I just bought this from Best Buy for our RV. (price is the same direct from Starlink)
Sometimes when you coil a wire it becomes an AM-style radio receiver and picks up interference, radio signals, and private communication devices. Have you had any interference issues with that big coil of wire particularly in cables with less insulation and no ground? Sometimes the way around the coil issues is to wrap it elbow to hand and with variations in the loop length of each wrap, then strap it in the middle so that you don't have a round looping coil.
We use gen 2 in motion. Mounted to ladder, but we have a sloped roof fifth wheel so it's never higher then anything else in roof. Problem with High performance is locked with too expensive of a monthly subscription. Very comprehensive review. Thank you.
@@ChangingLanes Oh that's nice. I will be investigating Peplink, thanks for that. Currently my Starlink is converted to 12VDC and connected to a Unifi Dream Machine router with an additional access point in the front compartment so we can use while driving. Our trip from east coast to Yellowstone and back, it was very helpful to have reliable service both in the truck as well as the RV. I converted it to 12 volt because I wanted to run as few things through our Victron 3000 Multiplus II as possible for keeping batteries topped off during remote storage. There's a great kit online for those interested in using a 12 volt POE injector kit.
The black piece is a cord relief - they are meant to take the strain and keep a cord from pulling through (look at older power tools and you'll see they used to be super common).
We go full time in a few weeks. I just picked up a Peplink Max BR2 Pro 5G because it will use the MMH M-Series FusionSIM. I’m adding to that my Gen2 Starlink and a Project Genesis hotspot for redundancy and resiliency. We’re hoping those options will keep us well connected on the road.
The trouble is, you can't swap equipment on a single plan. Each device needs its own plan, which is a bummer. Because what you described would be great!
Chad if you had to choose would you install the dish in the front, rear or center of the roof knowing what you know about the possible tree coverage. For pull thru sites. Having the dish at the end, it might help to be able to position RV so the dish could be on the clear side of the tree coverage.
The Starlink mount suggests a mounting surface of at least 1.5in but all RV roofs are 1/4in plywood. I am installing one on my RV roof as well, but this is a concern. Are you worried at all about this?
There are several UA-cam videos where people are using the mini in motion: mounted on van roofs, in car windows and even mounted under sunroof. Absolutely amazing technology. I still remember using dial-up.
I just completed a trip to Smokemont campground in the national park that is just above Cherokee NC. Near your home base, I think. There is no cellular signal that I know of up there. I took my StarLink gen 2 antenna off my house and tried it out in the NP, with poor results. There was only a north-south band of open sky at my location and it was marginal at best. There is an area at one end of Loop F in the campground that may work better. My experience is that is that if anything more than the southern horizon is obscured by trees, you're out of luck. If you get a chance, go up there if your RV length allows. I would be interested in your results. I was not impressed with your obstruction map under the small tree.
Can you link a version 2 or 3 to a High performance? What I mean is, if you have the new mobile antenna and it is tree covered, can you use a gen 2 or 3 dish on the ground?
Around 17:12, is the speed shown for download? Around 22:50, the graph on the very bottom does that reflect the upload speeds? Do you have any data for upload?
Chad- Thanks for the information and providing your feedback on the product. I have watched your original internet setup video and I did have a related question. Do you use or see the need of using some kind of VPN for security reasons and if so, do you have a particular preference or recommendation? Appreciate any feedback you can provide and Thank You in advance.
Hi! I came across your channel, and I am hoping you can answer a question for me. We purchased a pre-owned Class A that came with a lot of upgrades, including antennas and Pepwave MAX router. The trouble is, neither my husband or I are super IT savvy. Do you know of a company (or person) that offers IT Support for Full Time RV owners? I would love to find someone who can help us go through all the pieces we have, and help us make the most of them. Right now, we're still using our MiFi Hotspots, and I know that the Pepwave can handle the Sim cards. Unfortunately, the videos on Peplink's support page are geared towards people who understand the equipment way better than I do. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Ouch on the window, that's a bummer. My setup is very similar to yours. I'm running a Max transit pro right now with one e-sim, one regular sim and starlink. Like you im also running a netgear switch not sure which one you have but mine is a managed switch, the systems enginenerd in me wont let me run a passive switch and not have subnets for devices, computers etc. Performance wise it it looks like the "high performance dish" is not really any different from the gen2 with the standard roam plan. For us in motion is not that important so for me its not at all worth the cost. My better half does sometimes work while we travel on her laptop but its rare and the hot spot built into our GMC gets the job done there. I am considering upgrading to the Max BR2 at some point, looks like the cost has come down enough to make it a viable option. For Starlink I hacked the cable and installed a weatherproof Neutrik "ethercon" ethernet port on the wall under where my equipment is so i can set mine up 100% from ground level. Not sure this is possible or how difficult it might be on a Grand Design based on how the walls are built but on my DRV (built like a sticks and bricks on the walls) I was able to snake a cable thru the wall from the router to the jack pretty easy. Setup is as simple as place the dish where i want it either on the ground with the ground mount or i mount mine on a flagpole buddy off the ladder and plug in the matching weatherproof connector i have on the dish side into the jack and im done. I never have to hop on the roof to do anything unless i want to put the dish up at the front of the RV on on the roof which i have done at smaller sites to get into clearer sky.
How can it bond all the connections together? If I have a secure Microsoft Teams or zoom connection, I don't think it can spread packets through to these servers from different sources, can it?
Its complicated but ill try to give you the cliff notes on how speedfusion works for resiliency. The peplink router in your RV is connecting to a peplink speedfusion server over a vpn tunnel. Communication between the speedfusion server and your router is being sent over multiple connections, basically redundant packets being sent across each of your wan connections between you and the speedfusion server ( in my case 1 starlink and 2 LTE). As far as teams or zoom are concerned your endpoint is the speedfusion server that peplink owns, what happens between your pc and peplink server is unknown to the apps and they don't care as long as the packets get there. I use this setup every day for teams calls, SSH, RDP and all kinds of other stuff while i'm working. My wife spends 70% of her workday on calls using a Cisco voip based phone system and we both have zero issues with dropped calls or broken up audio or video. If you need a hardened setup for work this system works very well and its really easy for anyone to setup. You just need diverse connections and be willing to pay for that.
Yes.. the router takes care of splitting the connection across multiple WAN links and putting them back together on the other end (peplink). To your computer, it just looks like a single connection.
Is it always necessary to set up the Starlink if you have Internet via cell phone providers? For instance, if you get to a campground and you have trees over your rig, don’t bother setting up the Starlink just utilize the cell phone Internet? Here in the next year I’m also looking at such redundancy so this video comes in handy. Thank you for the content! BTW nice Indian, getting a Challenger next month! 👍🏻
If you have a good idea of how your gear should be wired, I'm sure you might find a mobile tech competent enough to help install it. But, you might ask MMH. Maybe they have some ideas.
First I'd heard of them. It appears you have to use their device, so no peplink and no speedfusion. Also their data plan prices are a little bit higher than MMH.
You comment is the first I've heard of them so I looked.. Looks like you have to use their router, so no peplink and no speedfusion, etc... Also, their prices are a little high for data plans.
Thanks Chad! fyi we got the short dish to power supply cables which are 100% optional since you get the 83ft cable in the kit now. They are in stock if people need them. these are 100% Starlink OEM. mobilemusthave.com/products/flat-high-performance-8m-starlink-cable
Yes, another cool video as others have said, and thorough at that. And wow, you are the RV gadget guy. But what is your monthly cost to stay connected - seriously? And your up-front equipment costs must be simply astounding. We are full time RVers traveling the US for the next 2 years, but cannot think of why we would need this reduntantly redundant system - unless I was working from the road full time - maybe. And we have a UA-cam channel to keep our friends and family up to date, but we wait till we get set up somewhere so we don't miss the scenery. We use Starlink and Verizon for $250 a month, and I think we might ditch the Verizon plan at $100 because we just don't use it much. Again, cool video, but the cash us mere mortals would have invested for this system and the ongoing monthly fees would be prohibitive. You should publish a video where y'all take a week off from tech and solar, and try disconnecting while old school camping (as much as can be done in a 40+ft 5th wheel). That might be interesting. Again, cool (interesting) video.
We go through about 3TB a month, running a UA-cam channel full-time. Granted, I think we are the only full-time RV tubers that back up all of our footage online.
@@ChangingLanes if you have one subscription, you should be able to use one dish at a time, whether fixed on the roof, or if under obstructions , a portable dish… one at a time
@@Ole_Ligeyour missing the point! Each dish needs its "own" subscription so serial number etc is registered to only one device, so u CANNOT swap devices one at a time on the same subscription. Get it! 🍻
@@SpykersB I get it…but fail to starlink…you are paying for one monthly service plan…you should be able to use various equipment to achieve your signal…
If you are going to do much in-motion, you might want to trade out your AC Power-Supply for a DC Power Supply: ua-cam.com/video/RlENmAikSQQ/v-deo.htmlsi=bNkRAb-rvaC-nUGT
Dude go buy a nonmetallic cord grip. HD has them for $3. That black ace is the place grip is 💯 going to fail and let water in. It’s also going to smash your internal wires in that cable. Not being able to move the dish is a killer unless you’re in the desert. Cheers
The trouble with a cord grip is the starlink end won't fit through it. I needed something to clamp the wire. I'm pretty sure it's just twisted pairs in there so I might cut the cable and use my RJ45 passthru from the old antenna.
@@ChangingLanes 💯 it’ll fit through a 3/4” grip and still seal the cable. Can also loosen should you need to pull your cable in and out as needed in a pinch. Eaton makes all kinds of sizes. Just thought. Nice seeing doing the “how I did it” videos again. Take care buddy
Just ordered starlink mini (Roam). I am not full time but love that you can shut it off when not needed (Live in NY so no need in the winter). Thank you so much for your amazing videos
Constructive criticism. I usually like your technical videos. The last few ones go monotone for so long, i've fallen asleep on them. Like I almost did at the ten min mark. I usually eat up all the technical but you're doing what my wife complains that I do. Go flat when giving information. For reference, I'm a master level, HEV (since 07), EV certified automotive tech. So, please, vary pitch or pace.
I didn't think I was talking any differently than I always do. But, this was also filmed after 3 travel days, one of which had suspension surprises in store for us...
Chad, I'm glad you are a major geek. Your content is always so helpful because you do your homework and bring us great information.

Hey Chad, just watched your video and wanted to bring to attention the fact that Starlink just dropped the price of the standard antennae from $599 down to $499. I just bought this from Best Buy for our RV. (price is the same direct from Starlink)
Ordered my standard from the website last night 299
Sometimes when you coil a wire it becomes an AM-style radio receiver and picks up interference, radio signals, and private communication devices. Have you had any interference issues with that big coil of wire particularly in cables with less insulation and no ground?
Sometimes the way around the coil issues is to wrap it elbow to hand and with variations in the loop length of each wrap, then strap it in the middle so that you don't have a round looping coil.
No issues that I'm aware of. It was only about 9 loops and all shielded twisted pairs.
We use gen 2 in motion. Mounted to ladder, but we have a sloped roof fifth wheel so it's never higher then anything else in roof.
Problem with High performance is locked with too expensive of a monthly subscription.
Very comprehensive review. Thank you.
Good to know! 👍🏼 BTW, the HP antenna can be paired with any plan. Ours is now on the standard mobile regional plan.
Bingo! Found it! amzn.to/3QZNaCf
Nice work!
That should give you pretty good coverage. You might also see if your genesis hotspot SIM can be put in the BR2.
@@ChangingLanes that’s a good idea
Re: Obstruction, how about hooking up the portable antenna through an AB switch so you could set it out on the ground while in obstructed sites?
The trouble is, you can't swap equipment on a single plan. Each device needs its own plan, which is a bummer. Because what you described would be great!
very good I like
Chad if you had to choose would you install the dish in the front, rear or center of the roof knowing what you know about the possible tree coverage.
For pull thru sites. Having the dish at the end, it might help to be able to position RV so the dish could be on the clear side of the tree coverage.
One of the two ends for sure.. But, whichever end you choose... that's where the trees will be.. LOL
The Starlink mount suggests a mounting surface of at least 1.5in but all RV roofs are 1/4in plywood.
I am installing one on my RV roof as well, but this is a concern.
Are you worried at all about this?
2 sec and less dropouts won't effect zoom or streaming video or gaming. Our gen 2 drops out quite often for less then 2 sec and never issue with usage
Great Video. Thanks !
Have you tried SkyRoam for your cellular hotspot ? They too will connect to the strongest cell tower available.
No. We only use plans that we can put in our peplink. That one appears to lock you to their hardware.
@@ChangingLanesplug the Skyroam into the pep link?
What are you finding for your typical upload speeds? I am a traveling drone pilot and I send about 100 gigs a day if not more.
Just got the mini for our campervan.
Do you know if the $150 unlimited roam plan works in motion despite what they say?
Great video Chad!
Hey, Dean! 👋🏼
Do a video on the netrifi
Connecten router
This one doesnt power swivel toward the best signal?
Can you link a version 2 or 3 to a High performance? What I mean is, if you have the new mobile antenna and it is tree covered, can you use a gen 2 or 3 dish on the ground?
Around 17:12, is the speed shown for download? Around 22:50, the graph on the very bottom does that reflect the upload speeds? Do you have any data for upload?
The speedtest shown was download. The graph was all upload (dropbox).
Does Starlink work with VPN's.
How much do you paying in monthly internet charge combined
Why not use a flag pole on the ladder to attach the antenna? Better than climbing on the roof or putting holes in your roof?

That wouldn't solve problem #1: setting it up and breaking it down every time...
@@TDub_ADV Ah makes perfect sense, VPN
Yes.. the router takes care of splitting the connection across multiple WAN links and putting them back together on the other end (peplink).
Any suggestions on a source to install the equipment ?
If you have a good idea of how your gear should be wired, I'm sure you might find a mobile tech competent enough to help install it. But, you might ask MMH. Maybe they have some ideas.
Thanks. Love your videos!
Hey Chad. Your Installation book mark is misspelled.
Good catch! Thanks! 👍🏼
hey have you thought about Patriot Mobile? Any good or bad info that you know of?
First I'd heard of them. It appears you have to use their device, so no peplink and no speedfusion. Also their data plan prices are a little bit higher than MMH.
You comment is the first I've heard of them so I looked.. Looks like you have to use their router, so no peplink and no speedfusion, etc... Also, their prices are a little high for data plans.
If you live in the western US, it’s currently $299
Do you have any concerns on sharing your IPs with the net?
Not really.. No way to get to our private IPs short of hacking our wifi. Public IP's change all the time.
Are there any issues with cables on the roof flopping in the wind when you're traveling?
Nope. All good. 👍🏼
I think you exceeded your air quote limit in this video.
Hi guys, is it possible that I very recently passed you on US-13 in Virginia Eastern shore? If not, you've got a truck/RV clone out there.
Must be a clone... a clone with great taste, though.. 😎
Here for the Overkill
Just seen the prices are going to 400 a month. Are you guys going to keep it at the new prices?
Isn’t that just for the global starlink?
That's only for the Global plan. The mobile regional is still $150
Thanks Chad! fyi we got the short dish to power supply cables which are 100% optional since you get the 83ft cable in the kit now. They are in stock if people need them. these are 100% Starlink OEM. mobilemusthave.com/products/flat-high-performance-8m-starlink-cable
Yep, know exactly what you said😂🤣😅🤛👍🙏😎🦅🇺🇸
Really Chad, DishyMcflatface? Ha ha ha! I don't know how you said that more than once with a straight face. Love your videos!
LOL.. that's actually what Elon called it.
Ya beat me to it
First!! ;) I haven’t done that in a long time.. and probably doesn’t count in members only release huh? 😂😂
First is first! Not your fault you have an edge! 😉
Get a second stand alone dish, long wire, temporarily run wire to router.
We have our gen 2 dish. the trouble is each device needs a separate subscription. You cant just swap hardware. I sure wish we could.
How come Tara needs internet to edit?
Usually to browse and download music.
OMG! You put lag screws in your roof and drilled a hole you can see through on your roof.
If you are going to do much in-motion, you might want to trade out your AC Power-Supply for a DC Power Supply:
ua-cam.com/video/RlENmAikSQQ/v-deo.htmlsi=bNkRAb-rvaC-nUGT
Starlink is too damn expensive
