Destroying A Starlink Dish To Mount To a Van
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 лют 2025
- We cut open a Space X Starlink dishy so we could mount it in a flat roof using a Star Mount from America, the flat roof mount also converts the Starlink system to 12v and has a build in router, so there is no need for your existing Starlink router. This is an easy job to do and all the instructions given to us were perfect but remember to hard wire it into your van, if you are interested in one of these mounts then please check out the link below, but they ain't cheap , you have 2 options the full kit which turns it into 12v or the normal kit that just the dishy goes in and you use the star link router on 240v

Good stuff! Glad to be in CJS with you! 👊
Love the new thumbnail 👌
Cheers buddy
I can confirm it’s working great
Thank you Neil for your help
Maybe a roof clean on the list of jobs to do
Maybe🤣
I don’t have time to answer questions
Neil’s a bit of a legend really always ready to help out 🙌🏻
@@UrbanVanlife😂😂😂 now now !
The first rj45 you showed had a metal shield this was for the stray metal wire. This is important.
It’s working no problem at all mate so can’t be that important
What a nightmare with the lighter socket not being up to the job. Imagine it must pull some power. Great job there and clever all be it very expensive - shame Starlink didn’t make them like that massively better idea 😀
Have a great week, all the best, David 👍
Really enjoyed watching this Neil, thought about starlink for our van but can’t justify it, although uploading videos is getting harder here in wales, our ee router struggles with the valleys👍👊🚌🏴
Good job 😊👍
Thanks 😄
Another brilliant video 👍
Thanks ☺️☺️
Neil as a network engineer by trade please give me a wave next time. You made it soo difficult on yourself terminating that cable haha
Neil get a cutting off pauls Money tree lol. Paul took the wrapper off and thats Emmas job 😂. Good product if youre running a buisness from youre van
The issue with the cigarette port/12v socket isn't on the Starlink side; it's just a plug after all, it's on what the Ecoflow is providing to its socket, which according to the Ecoflow website is "12.6V, 10A, 126W Max". So the Starlink is just exceeding the limit that Ecoflow puts on the 12v socket, not necessarily the max rating of a 12v socket.
Interesting comment and understand where you are coming from but it has happened to many other people who aren’t using ecoflows’s and when we called and spoke to the correct person who deeds with this they confirmed it’s a common issue for many users and is a regular call they get
@@UrbanVanlife It's definitely an oversight by the company, they don't even list any power consumption on the website which makes it even harder to determine if, for example, the Ecoflow would work. They should just make the 12v plug an add-on and make sure it's abundantly clear of its potential compatibility issues.
Urban 🔥 Awesome Van Channel
My man cheers buddy hope your well sir
Hi Guys, i think some rubber washers between the magnets and the box would dampen any vibrations going to the box
Seems a bit of a backward step having the WiFi router outside the van, does the mount have an Ethernet socket?
I watched a YT video, some time back, about how to remove the actual panel without cutting the back panel. Apparently the antenna panel is only glued - with really strong, weatherproof glue - to the back part. It involves carefully cutting along the back of the panel (where it attaches to the back body panel) with a sharp blade to get through the glue. Then you have to take out a couple of plugs inside (like you had to do anyway). Then they can be plugged in to the new, flat base's, electrics...
I think what the guy at the company probably meant... was that most "cigarette lighter sockets" don't carry enough current to power the dish. You can buy *_12 VDC power 'outlets'_* like this (to suit the provided plug) from many places: and wire them directly to your 12 VDC system; then you can plug/unplug as you like. Still ...he wasn't too busy to take the ca$h, was he... Poor customer service that.
Are Starlinks directional, when they start they move to the best position, to reach satellites?
I’ve been driving around
Having no problems with signal whatsoever 👍
no, there new version 3 dish is even flat mounted with no motor which they are selling now
@@Bigzeeeee oh right, that’s pretty cool,
Yer but have you seen the price . Its nearly £3000
@@UrbanVanlife sod that, I will stick with mobile Hotspot. lol.
Wowzers!!!, lots and lots of pennies and looks like a total ball ache to fit, not for the DIYer to fit by the looks of it.?
😮😮😮 looks good once in though.
Thank you 🤩
Are you 2 ok? Not seen you and the puppers for a while....
good vid thanks lee
Thanks Lee 😄
Nice piece of kit for what it does, but what a price.!! I guess it's still a saving over the mobile antennae which is $2500 🤷♂ Great job anyway guys..especially without reading the instructions.!! 😂🤣😂👍❤
Thought starlink made a flat panel for campervans
They do but it’s like £2500 plus £250 per month
Thanks Neil won't be ordering one then 😢
👍👍
Cool ,
Thanks 🙏
Mobile skynet for the AI is coming...!!! 😆
😂😂
Every IT Guy is absolutely cringing at your attempt at terminating an RJ45 connector 😬😬
Cringe all they want it worked
And the anti static for the circuit boards with a nylon jacket😂😂
@@tonyflanagan5682 yep 😂
Wow, that's a lot of money😱. Neil, I live in New Jersey, USA. There is also company in California called "Agile Off-road " that sells similar mount for about $ 410 US dollars.
Sandy
Hi sandy we have just looked on there web site and for the 12v one it’s $975 that’s without shipping
Sorry, I didn't realize 12v part
Would Emma consider allowing you to rig up and invent your own mount? 😉😁
@SLL410 we are looking for some kind of mount in the uk and have spoke to a few company’s tha could make then but there needs to be A demand
👍🚐😎
You've been very quiet lately, what's up mate?
Hang on a mo, did you actually say "we'll have a look at the instructions"😮..are you really Neil..?
That Emma one is rubbing off on me obviously 🙄
