They formed as they were there in 1971. They were all in bands earlier and brian and Roger formed a band called Smile. Freddie joined and they became Queen, then deajky joined.
They were young and raw and inexperienced. It was like lightning stuck the same spot 4 times and put these guys together. There was something special from the start. Mick Rock (photographer) said of their early days, "The stage was microscopic and Freddie was performing like he's in a stadium!" 😁 I saw them in the 70s and love all of these early performances. But I'm an old hippie. 😉 Also Brian was very into the rock and roll of it and you really see that in his early guitar. Just flawless. Be a Queen reaction channel if you like. They are the best after all. ✌💖😃
I think you'd like "Liar" from their very first album, live of course, at the Rainbow 1974. It's heavy and John has a bass solo! I really like your reactions!
Thank you so much for reacting to Freddie and Queen’s wonderful timeless music. Freddie Roger John Brian are 4 educated amazing musical geniuses and they are so perfect together. They have hundreds of songs for you to react to, hits or not, they’re all gems. And, for us, we would only prefer to listen to Queen and Freddie. Like John said: No Freddie, No Queen
As some have already commented Sir Dr Brian May made his own guitar when he was around 16 I believe with his father. Took them about a year and a half. The neck was made from a 100 year old fireplace mantle. The body of the guitar made from an oak table, the tremolo bar made from part of a bicycle seat and a knitting needle. It is called the Red Special. There are videos explaining how it was made. Brian had very specific ideas how he wanted it to sound. John Deacon graduated with high honors in electrical engineering. He made an amp for Brian using a speaker cabinet and things he found in the trash. Brian still uses it to this day. He had tried to have another one made but no one could duplicate the sound. It is referred to as the Deacy Amp. Brian went back to college in the early 2000s to finish his PHD in astrophysics and does some work for NASA. You need to react to Now I’m here at Wembley. There is also a Now I’m Here multicam video Roger Taylor that all cameras are focused on Roger. He said this is his toughest song to perform. There is a multicam video of this song for John Deacon as well.
I highly recommend "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke." It's one of my favorite early Queen songs because of all of it's fantasy imagery and faerie references.
Probably one of the most beautiful songs ever written by Sir Brian May!! He was inspired by a crush he had on a girl in his college Biology class! So romantic! This live version is a treasure chest of jewels 💎 and the studio version is a “Tolkien” work of art! Please check that out, too! 🩵
Pure talent. Freddie's singing is not the only thing that I can say is great, but his ability and talent on the piano♥ The Queen band does not focus on one type or style of music. 4 individuals with their own talents. Amazing! Please react to "LOVE OF MY LIFE" at the Wembley concert or Rock in Rio? You will not be disappointed. Thank you for your beautiful reaction to Queen. I hope it continues because there are many of us who are waiting.♥
Freddie was technically British, being from Tanzania when it was a British Protectorate. He went to a British boarding school in India. Queen has many awesome concerts to draw from, anything from Montreal 1981, Wembley 1986, Milton Keynes 1982, Rock in Rio and some of their music videos are fantastic...While Adam Lambert is good, I wouldn't switch to him until you've exhausted Freddie's catalog....most of us tolerate Adam because he keeps Queen touring.
This is such an incredible performance from the first note to the very last. Every member of the band was spot on, truly bringing thier "A Game" to this show...and every show. Brian wrote this song about a girl in one of his classes that he fancied but couldn't muster the courage to ask her out. When he finally did she was already with someone else. It is also influenced by a book he had recently read. Brian built his guitar with his dad when he was a teen. He still uses that guitar today and it is still the original. Queen formed in 1970 and I believe they released their first album in 1974 and their second one later that year. They had some really poor management early on so it was a bit of a slow start even though they were touring and producing albums. Queen fans are divided on Adam. While he is not Freddie, nobody ever will be, Adam is an exceptional singer and can sing all of the Queen songs in the key they were written.
Actually they formed in 1970, having several base players...then John joined In March of 1971..... I Love this song so much and it shows all members' talents..❤Great reaction❤
their catalogue is so huge and diverse that it‘s really hard to tell where to start. i don‘t know if there is any other band that covered so many genres. next to classic rock there’s hard rock, progressive rock, pre-metal as they call it, folk and even funk, soul, kind of reggaeish, an arabic sounding song, dixieland, vaudeville and much more...it’s all in their catalogue. they‘ve got something for every situation and every mood....you will see. unbelievable. what do you prefer?
Here’s my opinion. This Christmas Eve live performance was only a couple months after they became instant global successes with the release of Bohemian Rhapsody. Two reasons Freddie sounds a little different is his vocal nodules haven’t caused him issues yet from overusing his voice, second is, Brian said in a documentary that Freddie didn’t like his voice after hearing it on a replay. Brian said Freddie worked very hard to tweak his sound around this time. In the 70’s he didn’t have that famous gravel sound! They were in the top 3, if not number one world wide. They have sold over 300,000 albums. They had an audience of 420,000 people in Rio. They were massively huge in South America and Japan. When they first started they were a support band for Mott the Hoople once. After just that one time they began to headline which is rare. They were all college educated guys who played multiple instruments. No Adam Lambert please. I can’t handle him trying to be a “replacement”. There’s only one Freddie and no one will ever surpass his voice and stage presence. Please react to Now I’m Here live at Wembley 1986. It’s showcases everyone’s talents.
Popular in Australia too very much so.Adam Lambert is a judge on The Voice starting here soon and he has the cheek to carry a crown and have it next to him on the show. The crown belongs to one person Freddie.
No, Freddie tweaked his voice way before this time, before their first album was released, before their first demos was recorded. Brian and Freddie were actually quite sick at this gig, you can compare this gig it to the Rainbow 1974 and hear the difference. There has been a lot speculation written about Freddie's voice. Freddie would not have sung as he did through the years with nodules, that is just impossible. (Except if he had them removed without any publity, which is what singers often do).
I was going to say everything you said in your post about the bad vocal nodules and about Adam Lambert who I believe is a fantastic singer but he's not Freddy. At least we can live with our memories.
I love this whole concert (Hammersmith Odeon 1975).❤.. I especially love their rocker ' Ogre' Battle.'...shows just how intense their playing was back in the early years.❤
I think both Freddie and Roger had the flu at this gig. I have an old bootleg of the original BBC radio broadcast and it clearly shows there, his voice cracks at certain points. Obviously they’ve fixed this for the official release. Still easily one my favourite Queen performances of all time. I would die to see them do White Queen live again…
Brian May and Roger Taylor were in a band together pre Queen in the late 60’s called Smile, that struggled into 1970 when the bassist/ vocalist Tim Staffel left. This is covered in the Film Bohemian Rhapsody. The Freddie era band began around 1971 with the trio auditioning bass players finally settling on John Deacon who had relatively little band experience and was a student in electrical engineering. White Queen is a May composition that dates back to the Smile days.
Queen's first album was released in July 1973, and this concert was filmed in Dec. 1975. The band formed in 1971, I think, so they'd been performing for a few years by this time.
As Taylor Hawkins(RIP♥)said "you have to take that Ferrari out of the garage". I'm glad Adam came along because it enabled Roger and Brian to tour again and bring Queen music to a new generation. John hated the music business and Freddie passing was the last straw. Roger and Brian love touring. I saw them in 2019 and it was a spectacular show. Adam's voice can handle the tricky vocals especially the power ballad like Who Wants to Live Forever. Live at the Isle of Wight Festival is the best version. Adam trained in opera as well. He sings Nessun Dorma when Queen toured Italy. His voice is stunning. Freddie went to a public Church of England school in India where the boys were taught to be very British! In the 70s concerts he chatted a lot with the fans, probably because the venues were smaller. Brian did as well.I saw them in '77 and Freddie was totally charming and very funny. Roger said in an interview that they were never going to get Sacha Baron Cohen to play Freddie, they were wanting Ben Whishaw but he had scheduling conflicts. The Rainbow 1974 concert is one of my favourites. The whole thing is on UA-cam. Roger's backing vocals are killer on In the Lap of the Gods. Great reaction!
Thanks for great reaction! For crazy Queen you should do the "proggy" trilogy: March of the Black Queen, The Prophets Song and the Millionaire Waltz (the last one with some amazing lead bass).
Just a bit of info on the boys…. Brian May Astrophysicist amongst other things . Freddie … Degree in Graphics Design. Roger… Dental student , degree in Biology. John .. Hi degree in Electrical engineer. All brilliant❣️
They were NOT rich at this stage. This is embryonic Queen. This is where they show the musical power, before they honed into the pop hit machine later. Queen between 71-1980 is so inspirational. Then again here and there until Innuendo was back to form. Freddie was of course over camping it as a performance being ad British as he could be. Racism was an issue, he wasn't out as gay either. Regardless, they grew into a perfect machine. Freddie came into his comfort zone. The tragedy struck. Now we can only enjoy their legacy.
@merqury5 you mentioned racism but I didn't realise he was any different race wise to the other 3 (so it didn't stand out) until I saw a photo of his parents years later. In fact he was the same colouring as my dad dark hair, dark eyes and an olive skin so I didn't think any thing of it,I certainly don't remember it being an issue or anyone ever mentioning it, until now adays.
Speaking of Metallica, you should check out the version they did of Stone Cold Crazy and the original from Queen (1974) you could be surprised to hear how young Freddie was already the best… by the way Freddie was very “darling" and “my dear"…
The album was divided into Side (white side) writing by Brian & side B (black side)by Freddie . Bri wrote White Queen. Side B has Freddie's Black Queen. Please listen to Black Queen! He's marvelous .
Love of My Life at Wembley is a must see but so is them performing it at Rock in Rio in front of 500,000 fans almost all of which didn’t speak English. This worried the band that they wouldn’t understand them. When Brian and Freddie start to perform this song (Brian plays acoustic guitar and it is just he and Freddie) the crowd sings the song to them. Brian stops playing the guitar and Freddie is momentarily caught up in the emotion of having the crowd sing in English. Also, react to Cool Cat. Freddie sings in falsetto the entire song. Freddie is playing the piano and John plays all other instruments.
Already such geniuses and yet the world was just beginning to listen. ❤Watch Days of Our Lives the Queen documentary to get an accurate history of the band. According to Brian May it was a slow slog. Their first record company reps took most of their money and overbooked the band so that Freddie eventually developed vocal nodes and so singing became painful but he muscled through it. According to Brian when Freddie first heard his voice played back to him he said he hated it and commenced to practice over and over until he learned how to sing to his satisfaction for the most part. Roger said all four were perfectionists which created magic but a lot of fights first. lol.
Great reaction a suggestion In The Lap of the Gods & also In The Lap of the Gods revisited same title two completely different songs from the Rainbow 1974 Queen & Adam are amazing saw them in concert two years ago in the O2 in London was amazing ❤❤ their version of Who Wants To live Forever from the Isle of Wight festival 2016 brilliant ❤ think it is Mark Martel who sounds very like Freddie x
Some folks prefer ‘70s Queen, some ‘80s Queen. That’s ok. A listen to just about anything from the Wembley concerts in ‘86 is good. Under Pressure, Now I’m Here, Another One Bites the Dust…Budapest ‘86 Who Wants to Live Forever,… then Montreal ‘81 Save Me, I’m in Love with My Car…just can’t go wrong with live Queen. Well done, great reactions!
Queen formed in 1970. This was 1973 or 74. Killer Queen came out in 74, BoRhap in 75. They had no money til Night at tne Opera in 75. The first couple of yrs they mostly practiced & wrote, got used to working together . They played small venues for a while & toured the US supporting Mott the Hoople. I love The Struts too, you should see the video of them with the Foo Fighters. Luke & Taylor sing Under Pressure! Fantastic!
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorites... written by Brian.. and this song showcases every member of the band... no "back-up" tracks.. just live talent... always enjoy your reactions... (p.s. that interplay between Freddie on keys and Brian on guitar... oh, yeah.. then Roger on drums.. oh, and John on bass.. )
Every time I see this video I think ‘why are you focusing on Freddie on the piano when Brian is playing a scorching solo?’ In fact you hardly see Brian at all. I was fortunate to see them on their Crazy Little Tour of London in 1979 at Tiffany’s in Purley. They were of course huge by then so seeing them in a small nightclub venue was amazing. I took my then 14 year old sister to her first ever gig and she still loves them now.
You’re so lucky to have seen Queen with Freddie!! Ive always wondered why there was no camera on Brian. Researched & had read that Queen was low on finances so they couldn’t afford the extra cameramen on stage!
@@debramoore7513 Hence ‘Death on two legs’ I guess! I also saw them in 86 at Wembley. Completely different experience. Almost triumphal. Everyone wanted to see them after the Live Aid performance the year before. Fun times.
@@debramoore7513 I honestly can’t remember much about the performance although I’ve seen clips on UA-cam it’s the experience of being in the crowd with a bunch of mates building human pyramids before the show and being one of 80,000 people clapping along to Radio Gaga that’s a lifelong memory. I was 23 then, 61 now! I also remember the impatient crowd giving the then relatively unknown support band a hard time; INXS.
you guys are going at this so backwards... comparing their sound to how they sound in their future. that struck me to be so unusual and while you might not like this but it tarnishes how you come across to me. Consider approaching Queen chronologically for an authentic appreciation. this performance specifically I think you missed noticing how much Freddie gave of himself. 2-3 times he completely empties his lungs (I consider it to be singing through his reserves) first time is right at the beginning with ...Ooohh🎶 and as far has your raw comments and how different... consider the 70s sound of Queen to be harnessing Freddie's voice like that of a budding delicate flower gracefully opening and building getting larger while his sound in the 80s is forceful almost an edge of anger with power to it and then the 90s he's released any angst and returned to calm and peace. This is my FAVORITE performance of this song. I feel it's more a piano solo with Brian extending the keyboard sound through his guitar in complete synch and harmony while John's bass gives it depth and Roger's drum provides heart. .... still a transcendent piano solo Freddie channeling Mozart and Beethoven during a rock concert like ONLY Freddie can. and I think I read somewhere that Freddie had the flu this Christmas Eve concert (not sure amazing if true) you're unfamiliar with alot of 'sounds' of Queen. and thinking of how Queen sounds like Metallica is solidly backwards. Next you'll bring up Ice Ice Baby hahahahahaha SMH Dragon Attack at Montreal 1981 You Take My Breath Away live at Hyde Park 1974 (swoon) In the Lap of the Gods this same concert and to throw you for a loop - do I'm Going Slightly Mad for the enjoyment of Freddie's deep register well controlled masterful story telling (its much focused on the words and visuals than the instrumentation) and his 2nd last video ever. Personally I think its his 'goodbye' to the band... very cathartic if you study it.
7 seas of rye was their 1st hit and I thought this was a 1 hit wonder. How wrong I was! Freddie was not technically British. He was born in Zanzibar (Africa) of Iranian parents (Asian), Still proud to call him British!
About Adam Lambert there is a section of the fandom that is divided on him being the current lead singer but most people like him because he a) is not trying to be Freddie b) is actually a good performer and a human. Some people don't like his style and that's fair.
Marc Martel’s cover of “ I Want to Break Free” is outstanding, IMO: ua-cam.com/video/UedkDQllhAo/v-deo.html Also, check out “Stone Cold Crazy” live at the Rainbow, 1974. It’s one of my early Queen favorites. It is also the first song performed at their first show as “Queen” in 1970. (Lead singer was then known as Fred Bulsara.) Thanks.
The band had been struck by the flu before this concert, Freddie and Brian were quite sick but they did their best. You can hear it on Freddie's voice at a few spots. But Freddie's voice did become more powerful and heavier over time. This often happens with male voices. Male voices only really settle at the age of 40. But often by that time within the world of rock, singers had already destroyed their voices. At Live Aid Freddie is around 40 ,and his voice is fully matured.
I'd be interested to know where you got this link. I have seen the Odeon 1975 performance likely a hundred times and this mix is different and definitely subpar. This performance is one my favorite all time Queen performances, definitely the best performance of this song, but not with this link. Thanks for the reaction, though. Check out You Take My Breath Away Hyde Park. I prefer original Queen, not a fan of Lambert with Queen but I'm glad he is enabling Brian and Roger to continue to tour.
Don't worry guys. White Queen also not my favorite. Also, no Adam Lambert, please. Why would you bother when there's ton of footage of the OG singin the songs you probably haven't heard like this one.
I noticed you’ve been listening to Pink Floyd on your channel they’re a bit meh and dull, have you considered listening to the greatest neo progressive band Marillion with H ?
The song "White Queen" has got to be the greatest hidden gems in the Queen catalog in my opinion.
All of Queen II and The Prophet's Song are criminally underrated.
Liily of the vally another 1 there are loads of there songs uderated
They formed as they were there in 1971. They were all in bands earlier and brian and Roger formed a band called Smile. Freddie joined and they became Queen, then deajky joined.
This song is so amazing !!!
What a brilliant performance by the best band ever.
If you notice, Freddie is wearing the same "winged Mercury" suit that he wears in the official video of "Bohemian Rhapsody".
You're right, thank you!
Freddies voice did change over the years. His range increased and he really worked on himself.
the instrumental part is so psychedelic 😵💫🤯
They were young and raw and inexperienced. It was like lightning stuck the same spot 4 times and put these guys together. There was something special from the start.

Brian used a Foxx foot phaser for this song, the first edition model... Got that from Mark Reynolds... If you don't know who he is, check him out!

I highly recommend "The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke." It's one of my favorite early Queen songs because of all of it's fantasy imagery and faerie references.

Love yours reaction aboit queen
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC, THANK YOUUUU!!!
Glad you liked it!
White Man from Earls Court 1977 👍
They were not inexperienced at this point they had played hundreds of gigs
Queen formed in 1970. This was 1973 or 74. Killer Queen came out in 74, BoRhap in 75. They had no money til Night at tne Opera in 75. The first couple of yrs they mostly practiced & wrote, got used to working together . They played small venues for a while & toured the US supporting Mott the Hoople. I love The Struts too, you should see the video of them with the Foo Fighters. Luke & Taylor sing Under Pressure! Fantastic!
Also Brian was just out of the hospital months ago because of hepatitis/ obstructed colon
Omg The Struts are the most amazing live band!!!!
Yes! They are fantastic
@@MoreMeetArthur I have seen them 16 times. Can’t wait for more!!!
Metallica took Sheer Heart Attack into the studio when they recorded The Black album.
Some suggestions, live at the Rainbow, 1974:
- Stone Cold Crazy.
-In the Lap of the God,
It's funny you should say that..
Stone cold crazy is coming 😉
@@MoreMeetArthur Yeap! Some kind of pre-metal trash song!
Metallica did a cover to Stone Cold Crazy & won an award.
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorites... written by Brian.. and this song showcases every member of the band... no "back-up" tracks.. just live talent... always enjoy your reactions... (p.s. that interplay between Freddie on keys and Brian on guitar... oh, yeah.. then Roger on drums.. oh, and John on bass.. )
Formed in 1970 John Deacon added in 71
Thank you, what a great addition that was!
Fun times.
@@simonspeak9288 That’s so fantastic!! What was your fave song at Wembley?
@@debramoore7513 I honestly can’t remember much about the performance although I’ve seen clips on UA-cam it’s the experience of being in the crowd with a bunch of mates building human pyramids before the show and being one of 80,000 people clapping along to Radio Gaga that’s a lifelong memory. I was 23 then, 61 now! I also remember the impatient crowd giving the then relatively unknown support band a hard time; INXS.
Please react to the making of One Vision. I think you both would find it very interesting
you guys are going at this so backwards... comparing their sound to how they sound in their future. that struck me to be so unusual and while you might not like this but it tarnishes how you come across to me.
I feel it's more a piano solo with Brian extending the keyboard sound through his guitar in complete synch and harmony while John's bass gives it depth and Roger's drum provides heart. .... still a transcendent piano solo Freddie channeling Mozart and Beethoven during a rock concert like ONLY Freddie can.
and I think I read somewhere that Freddie had the flu this Christmas Eve concert (not sure amazing if true)
you're unfamiliar with alot of 'sounds' of Queen. and thinking of how Queen sounds like Metallica is solidly backwards. Next you'll bring up Ice Ice Baby hahahahahaha SMH
Dragon Attack at Montreal 1981
You Take My Breath Away live at Hyde Park 1974 (swoon)
In the Lap of the Gods this same concert
and to throw you for a loop - do I'm Going Slightly Mad for the enjoyment of Freddie's deep register well controlled masterful story telling (its much focused on the words and visuals than the instrumentation) and his 2nd last video ever. Personally I think its his 'goodbye' to the band... very cathartic if you study it.
Excellent comment, you summed it up beautifully.
@@joannedarley1893 thank you
They don't really know Queen
They entitled to their opinion
Metallica said their band inspiration was QUEEN ! STONE COLD CRAZY … a Queen song that Metallica did and said they did it ‘ thanks to Queen’ !!
Thank you!
We have a reaction coming next week of one of his performances, spoiler we were really impressed
Larsy.... hahaha, love it!! For people that dont know what he meant by that...he was referring to Lars Ulrich , the drummer for Metallica
Marc Martel’s cover of “ I Want to Break Free” is outstanding, IMO:

Also, check out “Stone Cold Crazy” live at the Rainbow, 1974. It’s one of my early Queen favorites. It is also the first song performed at their first show as “Queen” in 1970. (Lead singer was then known as Fred Bulsara.)
Thanks.
Please react to in the lap of the gods live at the rainbow 74 ❤️
The band had been struck by the flu before this concert, Freddie and Brian were quite sick but they did their best. You can hear it on Freddie's voice at a few spots. But Freddie's voice did become more powerful and heavier over time. This often happens with male voices. Male voices only really settle at the age of 40. But often by that time within the world of rock, singers had already destroyed their voices. At Live Aid Freddie is around 40 ,and his voice is fully matured.
He’s performing suffering from the flu as well was either Roger or Brian
Where did the name Meet Arthur come from lol
I'd be interested to know where you got this link. I have seen the Odeon 1975 performance likely a hundred times and this mix is different and definitely subpar. This performance is one my favorite all time Queen performances, definitely the best performance of this song, but not with this link. Thanks for the reaction, though. Check out You Take My Breath Away Hyde Park. I prefer original Queen, not a fan of Lambert with Queen but I'm glad he is enabling Brian and Roger to continue to tour.
Actually that video you are reacting to is the completely original audio, without any edits or make up
It's a shame that on the official channel this performance is pitch corrected. Who honestly cares if he went flat a few times??
Metallica were influenced by early Queen. Anything from the Live at the Rainbow is great.
We've got stone cold crazy coming soon!
@@MoreMeetArthur That’s good.
They were poor and struggling here. They hit it big with Bo-Rap and the rest is history. No Adam Lambert plz. Try Stone Cold Crazy 74 at the Rainbow
Always looking for Queen reactions to subscribe to but you never let the video play 👎🏼
Yeah!
